Ruling MMD to hold national convention in August 2010 (Corrected)

Editor’s Note

We would like to correct the facts in the story we posted yesterday, with the headline Ruling MMD to hold National Convection in August. It has come to our attention that the national convention will be held in 2010 and not as earlier reported.

We sincerely appologise to the MMD deputy National Secretary Mr. Kaande for the embarassment the article would have caused .

[ZANIS]

mmdlogoThe ruling Movement for Muilty Party Democracy (MMD ) will hold its National convention in August this year.

MMD Deputy National Secretary Jeff Kaande has disclosed this in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today.

Mr. Kaande said the MMD Secretariat in Lusaka has authorised the lower party organs to hold elections in wards and branches in the districts so as to adequately prepare the party structures at the grassroots.

Mr. Kaande said completion of party elections at the lower organs will pave way for the commencement of provincial conferences in July, that will be followed by a national convention.

He said the ruling party wants to have quality and credible leaders to lead the party at various portfolios.

The party is expected to usher into office new office bearers during the convection.Currently President Rupiah Banda is the acting party President.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kaande has maintained that the MMD in the North-western province is still strong .

Mr. Kaande, who has just returned from North-western province revealed that the party membership in that region has tremendously increased.

He said if elections were to be called today, the ruling party will gain more votes in the rural areas.

He charged that there are just ‘pockets of opposition members’ in North-western province.

Mr. Kaande urged the party leaders in the province not to relent but to work hard so that the ruling party is more stronger.

  1. ok let democracy prevail during that convention and vote for credible leaders, thou at this time MMD u seem not to have good pipo to lead your party and the country as at now.

  2. Isn’t RB pulling a fast one on his friends. Is Prof Chirwa and company going to have time to build a case with MMD cadres. Its only like 4 months away. RB and his bootlickers are pulling a fast one for sure too make sure MMD does not have squabbles in 2010 & 2011 and present themselves to Zambians as a stable party , unfortunately it will be RB on MMD ticket come 2011. All the prof Chirwa who were saying they will target 2011, its game over, form a party or join or revive ZADECO. You stand no chance in MMD at such short notice

  3. my advise for MMD if they want to stand a chance in 2011 let them put new guyz with new ideas e.g chirwa!!!! otherwise as long as they hav the old who hav dented images it will not be easy to sell the party to the electorate come 2pin11!!!!!!!

  4. Let the fore runners of democracy think , not King Snake, nor Titus, Jacob, Fredrick, mpudu. Kafupi Chiluba,,,,,,,let the revival and the spirit of guarden house be resurface when it was made the hour has come ….Aka , auther wina, LPM Mbita …….

  5. Chelsea is unstoppable we are deadly right now.Alsernal we have harmmerd and we want to beat Bacelona also.Viva the blues and Drogba.

  6. Good news, but iam throwing a challenge to you coleagues the youth in MMD.it’s time to get rid of the old folks. Give the party a new youthful and vibrant leadership.the image of the MMD has to change to march the challenges of the 21st century. 2011 elections will be like the 1991 revolution.this time the youths like in america will stand up and say enough so if you think RB, VJ TETAMASHIMBA,KATELE,MULONGOTI and the like will win you the election then good luck to you.you will cry .even UNIP never thought that they’ll leave office at one time.i can give you a clue.look at the BWALYA CHITI calibre.

  7. 2011 Elections: 1. Nervous Mumba under MMD against Given Lubinda of New Patriotric Front. 2. Rupiah Banda non-existent.
    3. Sata non-existent.
    4. Thandiwe Banda married to Nervous Mumba.
    5. Dora Siliya 2nd year without parole in Chimbokaila.
    6. FTJ Chiluba non-existent.

    9. Maureen Mwanawasa exiled.

  8. “The ruling Movement for Muilty Party Democracy (MMD ) will hold its National convention in August this year” has confirmed what I have been indicating for a long time now about President RB Banda wanting to stand for Zambian President in 2011 tripartite elections.

I just hope the MMD will not regret voting for President RB Banda as their party president if they vote for him in August 2009 as MMD president since his failures are yet to surface in the next two years.

In all, thanks to them as the opposition will use the MMD CONVENTION outcome information to their advantage in 2011 for the losing candidates will probably join the OPPOSITION.

Also, new faces in the MMD presidential bid like Prof. Clive Chirwa have seriously been thrown out. I hope he will join the UPND Team soon.

  9. That does not sound interesting to me. I only hope they can speed it up so that matters that really affect the nation are taken care of. MMD should not thick big as Zambians can not be taken for granted. If they are wise then they should elect another party president and not RB. Change has to be traced if the party is to gain more support. The party should pave way for the young people in politics. It is not always wise to build a nation on old men. This has been become a habit and a lot of african nations. For as long as the top seats in Government are always reserved for the old men, Zambia will never come up with effective strategies to defeat the present and future economic pressures. Let New Blood flow into the heart of Mother Zambia. Make decisions that save lives.

  10. We can only forge a head if we remember history.. who formulated the symbol of MMD THE HOUR has come , The UPND symbol open hand …….

  11. 14 wiseman-reborn greetings and thanks.

Of courses names like BWALYA CHITI and Nevers Mumba have popped up from nowhere, but let us leaves such dreams to those who have brought forward those names.

What we need to concentrate on as progressive bloggers is to take the reality on the ground. The 2011 elections will be very nice for I envision all those who will be dribbles in the MMD rushing to the democratic convention to be held by the only real biggest opposition in Zambia as a habitable entity the UPND currently with 22 MPs in Parliament all loyal to the party leadership of president HH and v. president Kapita.

As for the MMD, I just want to reiterate that I am 100% with them on having their convention in August so that Magande, Maureen Mwanawasa (Hon. Doc., USA), etc. join…

  12. only sensible winning team UPND in 2011 at its convention probably when our National Assembly will have been dissolved by our President RB Banda so that the unsatisfied current MMD MPs will shift to the opposition upon seeing the mood of the Zambian voters.

By the way when late former President Mwanawasa was dying in Paris, then FINANCE AND NATIONAL PLANNING Minister Magande has maintained the Zalmbian Kwacha (ZK) at 3,200 to 1 US Dollar. Today Zamnet indicates 5690.00 (Buying) 5790.00 (Selling) ZK to 1 US Dollar. My brother in-law exchanged money for me last week at about 1 USD to 6000 ZK in Lusaka before sending it over. I can only imagine what will happen to our ZK in relation to the US Dollar in 2011. Such will determine the voting pattern as young voters come on the scene too.

  13. As for now, I only wish the PF political party all the best as their unelected party Chairman Mr Chitalu Sampa died at 77 years old while its once heart-attacked unelected leader since his bringing PF to national politics 73 or so year old Micheal Chilufya Sata is still hoping that he will be Zambian President after the 2011 elections.

In the words of former beloved soccer commentator Mr Dennis Liwewe, I will end will “let us wait and see” as events unfold for the 2011 elections are not going to be for timid souls but prepared men and women to take charge of Zambia as a Country and Nation with the challenges of the 21st Century where formal classroom knowledge and its practice will be needed to bring jobs and food on the Zambian family tables.

    Wina azalila wina azaseka, wapya…

  14. Thanks Maestro ,yet all I see and hear is about foot ball , Yet where I live is about 2minutes tube train and you are in wembery ….let sata be the by gone.

  15. 17 continued.

    …, wapya munzi.

May you all enjoy your blogging.

17:12 Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.

  16. 18 wiseman-reborn, you are on the spot. now is the time to focus on real men and women. Later on and keep well.

  17. MMD are really doing and going the obvious route!…..EXPIRY. Even the dullest of kids can see through their ploy of holding a convetion this quick without ample warning. They want to make sure that they consolidate RB and his cronies grip on the party. As for Prof Chirwa, Magande, Masebo or even Maureen, if they have any political ambitions, the best to do is, as Maestro puts it, join UPND. Let UPND hold a convetion mid next year and then start the campaigns. PF, well, well, I would rather say nothing about it for now save to say I dont see substance in it.

  18. Who knows about MMD ( multiple Party democracy) only the the true so called blue ….with the level of good civility and intellectual analysis…..

  19. MMD wins election in 2011 and I will come to celebrate with you all. Viva MMD Viva Zambia. Nomba kuno kuli ka Weizen Beer mwebantu so I hope you forgive me for being so loud LOL

  20. Dear bloggers help me here, it looks like my PC is invaded by what i can call LT Virus, each time i hit LT website virus threats are coming, but with other sites am ok no threats only on LT. Could it be that LT site or whatever sources is invading my PC? IT Technicians help me here.
kusiyana siyana kwa ma field. patiently waiting.

  21. deepen and sharpen your political analysis. So far its evidently disasterous.MMD is heading for 20th year reign out of 2011.Put print and sticjk it on your desk for vindication.

  22. Mwiponta Mukabwela,

I have reminded LT to upgrade security on their server.Indeed there are serious security breaches here.Spyware, and some dangerous virus that disable weak anti virus and take over your PC operations for some time are here. You have to put up a multilayer anti spyware, anti phising technology.

  23. Osati ndewo uko ku convention. If you are truly democratic, allow your members to freely stand and campaign for any position.

  24. # 29 Naliponta shakabwele coz I got a European Passport kuno ku diaspora!! LOL

Jokes aside. Mudala wandi I am fine. Nomba I have to go mukulala. Ka baby (4 weeks old) has just slept. Later and have a good one.

  25. Zambia will only change ruling parties when we have a revolution like we did in 1991 when the MMD came into power. People back home are too hungry to worry about who is ruling them…all they care about is the party that can shower them with chibuku during election time.

  26. Give RB a chance light blue nor true blue …… some one thought …….whether divinely arranged yes give it a chance …..

  27. BWANA MAESTRO HE,
I hope you are not underestimating BWALYA CHITI to be a lightweight.he is a credible guy with a knack to share his academic and business accomplishments with ambitious youths.
His TV programe “MY OWN BOSS” which aims to identify and reward young budding enterpreneurs is a big PR boost.in a nutshell BWALYA CHITI standing on an MMD ticket will even outwit HH hands down.

  28. What is wrong with VJ? His head looks like someone had dipped it in sulphuric acid and his skin looks damn sick. He should not be going to SA to monitor elections, he does not represent a good image of Zambia, in looks and history. It must be consequences of “kulya maningi mabelo”.

  29. AKAPONDO 41

If you have consistently followed Maestro’s blogs, you will realize that the only reason he is underestimating Bwalya Chiti is not because Bwalya is a low calibre individual but because Bwalya is Bemba. Maestro finds anything to do with Bembas anathema.

  30. Bro MAX,
I think if what you have said about maestro is true then it’s unfortunate.i think if it applies then Tribe should be the last basis of qualification to any office.otherwise i respect maestro for his great postings.

  31. shaka yu’ve made my day.
as fo mmd convetion,it’s a plan finish off the main contenders like magande and chirwa.

  32. This is good news for the MMD. I think it is better for the MMD to choose their leaders now so as to prep them for the 2011 elections. The 2011 elections will surely be the most interesting elections Zambia will experience in my opinion. South Africans in the diaspora where able to vote, I wonder if we’ll be granted the same privilege, if not, then it happens.

May the best contestant at the MMD convention win.

  33. MMD that is gud news, but ba fikara like Kaande, Mabenga,Katele,Teta and not the last but chi list RB should be voted out [-x

  34. Its good that MMD will hold a convention this year so that they see their party slowly phasing out towards 2011 when they adopt akula nyama.Obviously the strategy for giving such a short notice for the convention is to catch other aspirants napping and tohave enough time to sell their nyama. They are in for a rude shock.
wiseman-reborn,why is that anytime you write about sata you always wish him dead?Mind you he keeps nyamaz in check.Study well mwana

  35. Iam an admirer of proffesor chirwa but iam beginning to doubt if he realy understands the zambian equation.iam prompted to say so because the electorate are here back in zambia but upto todate he hasn’t done anything that looks like ground work to market himself not even to the MMD cadres on whose ticket he intends to stand.what realy supprised me is that he was launching his candidacy in sheffield england.as much as one can argue that maybe he was trying to lure other interlectuals who are in the diaspora.the point still remains the electorate are in zambia so the man was suppose to launch his candidacy right here.and reading on the
ZAMBIA-UK Website there are some critics who said he didnt rise up to the occassion.

  36. Most times Maestro and Wise man are off the mark and post anti-Bemba or anti PF comments the story here is MMD! Without Sata and so many brave Bemba speaking peoples there would be no opposition in Zed.MMD are not scared of UPND a regional party for Tongas. No sensible people in the urban areas of Zambia were most enlightened people live appreciates their tribal politics. You call yourselves educated but you are not educated enough to realise tribalism is an evil we do not need in Zambia. How many from Southern province are brave enough to speak out even at the possibility of persecution from MMD government.During independence struggle Bembas went to jail fighting for yours and my freedom.STOP YOUR TRIBAL BLOGGING!!

  37. To be honest, when it comes to Zambian politics, Prof Chirwa is a looser, failure, non starter and a disaster. How in the world can a political savvy person launch his candidacy in Sheffield. He is so academic. I guess he is an academic and knows nothing about people and social basic skills. I bet my house Prof Chirwa will not even win a ward chairman seat in Shangombo. Yes he is academically smart, but that is just about it, just as am useless and have no clue when it comes to aeronautic engineering, he has no clue about Zambia politics. Disss our politics all you want, but it gives us a president that has power over you all so called smart people. This man should be in Zambia doing what Sata is doing and thank God Miyanda has started being vocal too. That is the play ground people.

  38. Ba Miyanda is one man i realy appreciated and iam still posive he would have made a good president for zambia.just too honest, frank and tough.but how he lost it along the way i always fail to comprehend.but i always put the blame on Ka FTJ this ka man out of fear of the unknown
Destroyed the succestion hierachy in both MMD and zambia.anyway he is reaping what he sowed. But the brig also should be blamed for his over principledness.levy reignited the confidence in him and wanted him to serve under him he instead marched straight to THE POST
Newsroom.he should have accepted and once in the driving seat he should have made changes
To suit how he wanted the party to be like.

  39. When is PF going to hold their conventions? they have given us numerous promises concerning their convention and yet nothing has come so far.

  40. #37 wiseman…what about my views? I am speaking from what i have experienced before back home…when a political rally is about to be held, people are more concerned about whether there will be food and drinks at the venue!

  41. Do not underestimate the advantages of incumbency, MMD will need a much more focused opposition to be dislodged. The way things stand-UPND,PF etc in their current form do not stand a chance. It took one formidable MMD to dislodge UNIP remember. Unfortunately for the moment I do not see the opposition coming up with a pact as HH is too full of himself. He believes he is more popular than Sata, & Sata can never be vice to HH! Therein lies our dilema as Zambians yearning for a real change!

  42. Thats not a convention they want. they just want to rubber stamp what they had planned earlier with their fake endorsements of banda. To Prof Chirwa i say wake up and see what they are doing. Form your own party before its too late. i have all the confidence in you to make us all proud of being Zambian again. let me be the first cadre of your yet to be formed party!

  43. 41 AKAPONDO thanks for everything. I will wait and see what Mr Bwalya Chiti has to offer though I am sure that Dr Kaka (Katele Kalumba) stands a better chance of leading MMD than Mr Chiti. As of the tribalists, do not worry about them for they will come round when reality will set upon them at any appropriate time.
On another NOTE, be prepared to see Minister of Justice, Veep, George Kunda take more responsible roles both in Government and MMD after the sponsorship of President RB Banda.
As for the corrected news, whether the MMD convention will be in August 2010 or not, it is clear that President RB Banda wants to stand for Zambian President under MMD in the 2011 tripartite elections.

  44. 59 continued.

On the possible MMD adoption of President RB Banda as their candidate in the 2011 elections, president HH indicated “Hichilema said he was glad that some MMD members were pushing for President Banda to be adopted as presidential candidate in 2011. He said this would make UPND’s work easier because by that time people would have realised how visionless President Banda’s government was.” according to the POST newspaper of last week Wednesday. In the same news, it was indicated that “On Sata’s statement that President Banda did not qualify to talk about morality and normality, Hichilema said he was not surprised by Sata’s statement because both the PF leader and President Banda did not understand the new economic order, saying the culture of old leaders was…

  45. 60 continued.
President HH was also said to have “… said he had constantly pointed out that the country needed new leaders but this was being ignored by the people.” after which he pointed out that “… President Banda and Sata should take a rest from politics.” according to the POST Newspaper.

President H. Hichilema summed up by saying that “… the two leaders to concentrate on talking about real issues of development.”

In light of this, I am happy to encourage the MMD to elect President RB Banda as their party president and also ask him to stand for 2011 elections though he can behave like Mr Chiluba FTJ (Hon. Doc., Malawi) who handpicked late former President LP Mwanawasa when he (Chiluba) was an MMD president but could not stand for Zambian President due to the…

  46. This is the las time VJ is practicing his trickery and ‘magic’….coz not long now we shall have another state funeral hehehehehehehe….mwabombeni ba VJ but i think everytime mwaya kuli ba doctor u urself realise and it dawns on u that ur time’s up and when its up ….well its up.u cannot manipulate even if its ur speciality.

  47. #57, Shibumi, the dilema is not the failure of the opposition to unite. The dilema is the definition of the change you want. If Michael Sata with his History is the change you are after, then I should start packing my bags to join the diaspora. I wouldn’t want to be around when Sata is the best Zambia can manage to take to address the UN General Assembly. How would Sata address the El Nino phenomenon at the UN. I love my tribesman (Bashi Chilufya) but trying to make him President in the 21st Century is pushing it.

  48. 64
NKOLE WA MAPEMBWE UMFWE MILANDU mwasosa sana apopena. In all statements there in me too, mwe.

  49. 52 Mulenga … can you please stop your evil advancing of tribalism. Or may be you do not know what the word “tribal” or “tribalism” really means. Zambia is one Nation and thus we do not need people practising tribalism by talking about and defending their language to rule Zambia.

Have a nice day as you being to change your mindset and join us in the winning team of the future.
