First Lady and the Ministers’ Spouses Club hand over the rehabilitated mothers’ shelter

First Lady Thandiwe Banda and the Ministers’ Spouses Club today officially handed over the rehabilitated mothers’ shelter to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).

Mrs. Banda and the Ministers’ Spouses Club rehabilitated the shelter at a cost of K100 million.

Speaking during the hand over ceremony, Mrs. Banda said the move was aimed at supplementing government’s efforts in helping the hospital provide shelter to expectant mothers and other patients at the hospital.

Mrs. Banda appealed to the business community to help erect similar mothers’ shelters at all hospitals in the country.

She said government needed support to address challenges faced by the citizenry in various sectors.

And Sister-in-Charge of the rehabilitated UTH mothers’ shelter, Beauty Chilanga, thanked the First Lady and the Ministers’ Spouses Club for the gesture

  1. If the place is a morgue, a shelter won`t help. Even if I was living in a five star hotel when I know my child is going to die because of lack of equipment, drugs and instruments, I do not think I would be happy. Nonetheless well done.

  2. This is a very good gesture and should be emulated by all Zambians with extra resources to help. Giving and voluntary work are tenets of human life. Well done.

  3. a step in the right direction ladies i only hope your hubbies can do the same for men as well..

  4. Let us learn to appreciate, Zambians please. Ninshi kanshi ama negative comments whenever somenone does something good? Lesa tafwaya!

  5. Nine Chale shani man. Nothing against you but it`s amazing how we Zambians easily get appeased! Or is it a case of setting priorities right? Yes a shelter is a welcome move like I said but is it really a priority? In case people didn`t know, UTH has gone to an extent where patients are asked to bring their own plates, mattresses and beddings. The last time my aunt was in there there was no water in ITU. She had had an operation and ended up slipping on the water from a leaky container which was put in the bathroom. No wonder politicinas go to South Africa. Can`t blame them.

  6. 3RqU I’m OK my bro.
I understand what you mean. I believe the MOH is responsible for the failing health standards at UTH. We now know where all the money went.

  7. GOod job first lady and the club. You are absolutely right, the businesses should start helping out in some areas that really matter to the lively hood of the people of Zambia. Don’t wait for the government to do everything.. what happened to giving back to the community? I guess profits.. profits and getting from these people is better ha? Concentrate on Orphans, struggling families etc.
I don’t think these organisations even understand social responsibility. Well..kudos to you first lady and ministers club. Keep up the good work

  8. Ya go ahead, build a shelter before you build a hospital. Let them die so their parents can have a place to mourn from. Very funny.
