A traditional leader in Choma district says leaders of the political pact between the country’s major opposition parties, the Patriotic Front and United Party for National development (UPND) would be held accountable should the pact collapse.
Chief Macha of the Tonga speaking people told ZANIS in Choma today that Mr Micheal Sata and Hakainde Hichilema, of the Patriotic Front (PF) and United Party for National Development (UPND), respectively, should also be prepared to step down should they fail the people.
“We sincerely ask Sata and Hichilema to behave and be sincere with the people they lead,” he said. “If anything happens to the pact, the two leaders will be personally held accountable.”
Welcoming the PF/UPND pact, Chief Macha said the country needed a strong opposition and not fragmented opposition political parties.
He said the electorate had all along been sincere with all the political parties whose leadership had unfortunately not lived up to the people’s expectation.
“They must know that UPND is not for Hakainde Hichilema and PF is not for Sata but that the parties belong to the people they lead,” said chief Macha.[quote]
Chief Macha said he was anxious to see how see how Hakainde and Sata would handle the pact.
He said the electorate had in the past been disappointed by failed pacts and hope this time around things would be different.
“Things should not happen like in the past when the pact failed to work,” he said.

Nice words from Chief Macha, but he must realise that there are serious things to consider before this PF-UPND PACT works to the benefit of all Zambians people. Firstly democracy must take centre stage in the PACT.
Anyhow, I will now outline a few things I have gathered together after analysing the intelligence from Zambian sources at home.

Compelling evidence has been used to come up with the analysis of the presidential candidate under PF-UPND PACT:
1. The Undereducate has noted that MMD’s plan to block him for being a presidential candidate using educational qualifications in the wouldbe New Constitution have reached an advanced stage and needs to see someone win the 2011 presidential elections other than MMD.
2. In PF especially among non rebel MPs, there is no one with a NATIONAL FOLLOWING THAT can challenge MMD.
3. Only the UPND especially president HH has a following across the country and only needs some support in Copperbelt province to be able to win.
4. The Undereducate Sata needs a position such as Vice President of Zambia atleast since the President one has been elusive to him in the past.
5. The only way to achieve his (Undereducate Sata’s) goals is to support the UPND where there are educated men who can challenge the MMD nicely.
6. The ““Between now and 2011, anything can happen to both the young and the old,” Mr Sata said“ is there to just let most PF cadres, who are tribalistic, to have time to accept president HH as he now gets publicity from the POST at full strength through the PACT. However, he thinks he can also trick the UPND should NCC and Parliament fail to succeed with the education qualifications clause in the New Republic of Zambia Constitution.
As things stand, president HH has been settled as a person who wil lhave to lead the PACT in to the governing of Zambia through the presidential candidacy, God willing.

lets wait and see… I personally don’t trust Sata with power, he’s the one who is most likely to quit the pact if their followers decide to field HH as pact’s presidential candidate.
Following these things which make it unclear as to whom will lead the PACT as presidential candidate, the MMD is panicking seriously. One strategy I see them MMD considering is to delay the bring up of a new Constitution of Zambia – check presidential whatever to President RB Banda Akashambatwa Lewanika’s comments on doubting that Zambia will have a new constitution when he addressed Zambians in Cape Town.
This (no new Constitution) could be in an effort to make the Undereducate Sata insist on standing as presidential candidate of the PACT. Once Sata does this, the UPND will probably seek to move out of the PACT for its members don’t trust the Undereducate Sata. Thus, MMD’s laugh that the PACT will not work may become true.

The MMD will somehow argue that delaying the coming up of the new Constitution of Zambia is necessary as they did before the 2006 elections.
With this my analysis which will definitely be painful to PF cadres as reactions may show in subsequent postings is timely data which the Undereducate and his advisors must take with seriousness for the PF-UPND PACT to work so that Zambians can have one single opposition strong force to dislodge MMD from running GRZ in 2011 or any other time we may have elections.

Whatever the case, I hope he will take a serious stand on the presidential candidate issue. We just need Copperbelt province to come to president HH’s favour and the rest (Eastern, Luapula and Northern provinces) are not very important, it it would be grate if they can vote for president HH too with wins over any MMD’s candidate.
Lusaka and Central provinces are already on the opposition side while giving Lubinda Vice Presidency post will sort WP.

9 – Sad that politics is so ethnically divided that the winner is reckoned by province!
I strongly disagree with people that think to be a leader you need to be educated. I think even the people you call under educated can be good leaders. Leadership qualities are to a larger exitent in born. Education just complements to your bility to lead. I have seen the highly educated failing to perform whilst the under educated perform. Experience is the best component of a good leader and not education. I still feel Mr Sata should be given a chance to lead the pact first and then HH next.
I raise my finger in protest against the notion that ” a leader need to be educated” In my own capacity of understanding being educated is just a supplement to the wisdom a person was born with.Therefore,i personally think a person with wisdom and exprience could be a better leader than those timid educated ones.

I think the two leaders and their followers have analyzed the pro and cons of this merger. My analysis here is that UPND actually is the one that stands to gain if the merger was to be successful. UPND would get the status of the national party and clean the tribal tag that other bloggers are busy peddling. Well said CHIEF. We the people will want to have bigger say in this PACT more than the 2 presidents. This way the pact will stand. We need a convention. And like some one has said some where here that the MMD are panicking and as such they are delaying the implementation of the presidential requirements in order to see the out come of the PACT. Remember that this coming term of UPND office will be president HH’s last term of office should he win the UPND presidency at the upcoming UPND General Assembly in 2011 according to the UPND Constitution and so the issue of the Undereducate Sata leaving power to president HH is a non-start as a MONARCH ARRANGEMENT.
Thus, let 9 conventions so out the PACT’s presidential candidate so that all Zambians will be asked to support that candidate and his party to form GRZ while the other party’s members can be given positions in GRZ like late former President LP Mwanawasa did (though his initiative made appointed fellows join MMD in the end). By the way, MMD NEC has endorse president RB Banda as its sole candidate for the MMD presidency at the MMD’s forhtcoming convention. This leaves Clive Chirwa out of the picture as MMD presidential candidate or any other person like Maureen Mwanawasa (Hon. Doc., USA) or Magande Ng’andu.
So, for Zambia to have a similar to USA last year presidential (tripartite) election in the case of McCain Vs Obama, all Zambians need is President RB Banda under MMD vs. president HH under PF-UPND PACT so that people can be presented with issues and no insults.
