Bishop Mambo opposed to extension of probe to Levy’s regime

Share

Chikondi Foundation President Bishop John Mambo has dismissed calls by some sections of the society to extend the probe on corruption to officials that served during the tenure of the late President Dr Levy Mwanawasa.

Bishop Mambo says calls for a probe into the conduct of government officials who served under the late President Dr Mwanawasa should not be entertained at a time when the country was going through a lot of economic challenges that required all the available resources to overcome.

He told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today that he did not support calls to probe government officers who served in the past regime as this will only derail the implementation of development programmes as funds for such programmes would inevitably be channeled to the probe.

Bishop Mambo further said it must be recognized that most senior government officials who are currently serving under President Rupiah Banda’s administration served in the past regime of the late Dr Mwanawasa.

He said the probe was bound to negatively impact on the implementation of developmental progammes in the country.

Bishop Mambo, who is also a former Commissioner of the Willa Mung’omba Constitution Review Commission, further called on government to move with a sense of urgency to strengthen the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC), Task-force on Corruption and the Zambia Police Service.

The Clergyman said the move to strengthen the country’s Law enforcement agencies will effectively help the nation to fight corruption, which he said has eroded the moral fibre of the country.

Bishop Mambo, who is also Nyaphande Orphanage Board Member and a former Church of God Regional Overseer, however, advised politicians not to use politics to enrich themselves but instead to sacrifice for the well-being of the country.[quote]

“People should not use politics as a source of income but they should learn to sacrifice in order to help the nation develop,” Bishop Mambo said.

He said politics of benefits were long gone adding that there is need to put in place extra remedial measures that will deter senior government officials from plundering the public recourse’s.

The Clergyman was reacting to some remarks made by Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD) Information and Publicity Chairperson Benny Tetamashimba and Political Activist Dante Saunders that probe of corruption should be extended to the late Dr Mwanawasa’s government.

Bishop Mambo further urged the nation to avoid petty politics and concentrate on addressing the economic challenges affecting the nation.

He said as the country continues to answer to the challenges of the global economic crisis there is need for the nation to remain united and focused with a view to addressing the economic crisis affecting the nation.

Bishop Mambo has since called on political leaders to bury their differences and embrace the spirit of unity in order to help the country propel to greater heights.

  1. Is this Bishop telling me that the task force was only established to probe Chiluba’s administration? No wonder Some pentecostal are lead by serpents.

  2. Bishop Mambo, we have the Task force on corruption in place, all what is needed is extend its mandate to today. If there is anything that happened between 2001 and 2008, I, as aTax payer need to know. If plundering was there, as we have started seeing Masebo starting to sweat, we need to know and let the law take its course. We have Generals, Richard Sakala, Kashiwa Bulaya, samuel Musonda and others in prisons, but for sure they are not the only ones who looted the resourses nor did it stop there, plundering continued upto abena Kapoko.

  3. Lets probe everyone. As RB likes saying, there will be no sacred cows. And I hope these chaps also get probed since they were all part of the levy admin. The way Teta is speaking and behaving, as if he was in the oposition during levy’s rule. This guy was a dep minister!

  4. Bishop Mambo, most of the people you are talking about carried over to RB’s administration. In any case when you are in public service, you can be called upon at any time to account for irregularites. So just sit back and enjoy your tithe and let the ACC do its job.

  5. The probe mustn’t be selective at all. Everyone must be probed and investigated accordingly and regardless of which administration they served. Already we can see that there was a lpt of mismanagement of resources during previous administration hence they call to probe them. This Bishop is not being sincere in his calls and he must not be entertained.

  6. No Bishop, the law must be applied equally , if people committed crimes during LPM ,s rule, they must be brought to book.

  7. The problem with the so called probe is that it is politicised.Police ACC and DEC should not wait for politicians before moving.Jeff Kande is supposed to be the subject of probe but the invstigative wings are waiting for Rupiah or Teta. These investigative agec are too patronised hence the need toseriously pursue constitutional reforms to clip the Presidential powers. But even NCC is government controled

  8. It appears the Bishop is trying to provide entertainment here.
Why do we have the ACC? To simply pay them salaries? Not at all; they are there to work and any work such as the one attracting calls should be done by them. So where is the extra resource fear coming from for Bishop Mambo? He is rasing many questions now as to whether he himself lived in integrity. Or is it that he has simply made a mistake by what people call ‘slip-of-the-tongue’. His advice is uncalled for and unacceptable.

  9. Ndiye kumfuntha manje uku! I respect every man of God in their capacity as but this man in his unknown quest to rid himself of Rupiah is indeed not being sincere! What does he want? To investigate corruption or not? Even if RB is corrupt, corruption in Zambia did not start under RB, it has been there. Kapoko started stealing in LPM’s era, Chiluba stole earlier than LPM’s era. He couldn’t have made a successful lodge in 8 months! If that’s the case, then he should be set free! The law has to be fair. I think some pipo’s hatred of Rupiah will get them insane, akalumba fye!

  10. i agree with Bishop John Mambo’s statement there is no point extending the probe to late Mwanawasa’s regime coz if at all there were corrupt practices the same men and women including the current Zambia One (RB) served under the late. Let the dead lie in peace because Levy wont raise to defend himself. Let pipo with such intention go to Chainama Hospital to be examined. Pipo should learn to be grateful for certain things. Yes politics of benefits are long gone but that will injure alot in the current govt. The only way forward to increase the delivery capacity and effieciency of the organs charged with law enforcement by providing high level training both localy and abroad and by recruiting professionals in certain field like auditing etc and also make conditions attractive. Viva Bishop…

  11. #14 if that happened let it be investagated like any other case and she is old enough to defend herself. We do not know how much the Tast Force’s level of funding both from donors and GRZ from its inception. The whole thing is water tighty. We discover that by the time it will be disbanded those who serving on it will have accummulated Hundreds of Millions of Kwacha exceeding even the Mid Term gratuity for MPs. Already some of friends from DEC,ZP, ACC andOP and private sector their life style has changed all of a sudden and by the time they will be sent back to their repective departments they shall fail to fit in. Believe me if you wish but this is happening. The way forward is to strengthen the current GRZ investigating wings let us be level headed. Alertness is needed not only the POST

  12. Abishopo, a crime is a crime, am sure there is also a provision in the law for cases committed by the dead where their accomplices are still alive and able. I want to belisf Mambo must have found himself in a scandal and is afraid Chimbokaila could be his next bedroom. Let the law continue to visit all of us where we were involved in scams.

  13. John Mambo has been always a useless person seen dressing up the Bishop title he has no calling for. Don’t expect leadership from him but rubbish. He was ousted from the Church of God for embezzlement and is related to Silvia Masebo and the gangs hence staging useless personal defense. Systemic corrective actions cannot be selective. Levy did not run a heavenly Government to be exceptional but waked human beings too and systemic clearance is a must. Mambo is proving divisive anarchist. How does he justify that to other sections in courts? I supported LPM but never in denial that the administration was in heavy corruption. Look at the abrupt sale of multi billion dollar worth ZANACO and LCM at partly US $ 25 billion only among many assets Zambians have been robbed.

  14. I strongly opose Bishop Mambo’s stand because if this corruption spirit is not exposed and destroyed Zed will be extinct by the time our children are in a position to rule this country. Everyone who is or was involved in these scams should be brought to book and pay back all the money they have stolen. They should learn from the MP’s in UK who were exaggerating expenses claims and have been ordered to pay back. One made a ridicuolus claim for £8000.00 for a plasma TV what for ? apart from abuse of public funds and office, one claimed £400.00 for cleaning a swimming pool, now the shit has hit the fan and this scandal has plagued both Labour and Conservative parties, David Cameron was not exempt form this, This spirit of corruption has got to be destroyed before it grounds our ZED.

  15. The Mp’s in Uk made preposterous claims for £8000.000 for a plasma Tv For what? another claimed £400.00 for cleaning a swimming pool and on made claims for work done by anone existant company. Do you think they got awya with it oh no! The Mp’s claims scandal has plagued two two major parties in Uk the Consservtives and Labour, some if not all have ben made to pay it all back, David Cammeron Prime Minister of the Conservatives was not exempt.. The British public are very angry and the made demonstrated this during the European elections early this month, where labour lost a good number of seats. NO matter how far back in the UK people are made to account for their actions so why should it be different in Zed. let all those gitts be brought to book. Spirit of Corruption must die first.

  16. What is this Bishop scared of ? Infact the probe shud start with Maureen or is it coz the government is waiting for the first anniversary for LPM ( May his tribalistic soul rest in peace), then it should be extended to cover the longest serving ( plundering ) Army general isaac chisuzi and his clique of tribally selected generals and other puppets that have suddenly become rich. Then visit ZNS coz general chisheta also left footprints at the army in addition to what he has of late. next visit ZAf finance department and ask Light Colonel chibesa the director where he managed to get all his lodges in livinstone and other Kapokoistic assets ! All these commanders are fake !

  17. Ba Bishop you’re going going crazy, which Bible do you he read?, King Levies Version, most likely….You are the same people who have made Africa to be with your silly Bible translation. The poor will inherit the Kingdom of God, Which King will lead poverty stricken fools .when the earth is abundant with wealth- Ichimutwe

  18. Bishopo, Are you telling us that the “Task force on Corruption” has been disbanded?
This wing is there to investigste all corruption cases involving plunder / looting of government resources.
So all corruption cases have to be investigated whether under Mwanawasa, FTJ or Bwezani.
Please Bishop don’t confuse your flock.

  19. Is this Bishop Mambo the former Church of God oversea. He was chucked out because of financial irregularities. Bishop, you’re slowly becoming irrevant to the system. We will go ahead and have the Mwanawasa regime. Stealing public funds have now become a nuisance in this country. go back to the orphanage and we hope the orphans are getting the money being donated for ther upkeep in full. We will come and probe that one as well.

  20. Mwaiche SHUSHUSHU SENIOR CITIZEN……You are a hypocrite of the worst order.Just a few months ago,you were constantly defending how clean the Mwanawasa regime was without any reservations. Now you`ve already made a U-turn and castigating the demagogues that were sustaining your livelihood.I know that being a SHUSHUSHU is a career for you but don`t do it so openly.Learn to have principles in life and defend what is noble.

  21. Bishop Mambo, should stick to bible stories. The Probe is to keep people accountable for their actions, and so the people in the current admin, know that they are accountable even when they leave office, it will not damage LW name. Mambo is behaving like a traditional witch doctor from the 18 century, his scared of something.

  22. It is very easy to know and identify the people who benefitted or took part in the plunder by what they say especially when they realise that they might be quizzed. THE bIshop seems to be panicking.
