ATPUZ members demand apology from Union leader

The Agriculture Technical and Professional staff Union of Zambia (ATPUZ ) Mungwi branch members have demanded an unreserved apology from their Secretary General Joe Kamutumwa for issuing what they termed a divisive statement .

ATPUZ members said they felt betrayed by Mr. Kamutumwa for affirming that public service workers who went on strike should have their salaries forfeited.

They said it was unfortunate that the union leader, instead of protecting the interests of workers, went ahead to discredit the members by taking sides on the matter.

The members have threatened to withdraw membership from ATPUZ if the Union leader fails to apologise within twenty-four hours.

Mr. Kamutumwa has been quoted supporting government’s decision not to pay health workers who had gone on strike for over a month.

He said it would be unfair for government to pay workers who had downed tools as doing so would be encouraging workers to be going on strike when aggrieved.

He said there were other public workers who were equally unhappy with the 15 percent increment but did not down tools.

  1. This kamutumwa guy lips before he thinks. He lacks ettiquetes, diplomacy and common sense. He is emotional and charged.

  2. I think this Kamutumwa is a lunatic !How can he possibly come up with that sort of crap?

  3. Just remove him from Office, he is a sell out who has deliberately chosen to put aside his mission as a union leader. He is a fool, please chuck him out.

  4. He is using our contributions to promote his own interests. I personally know that he has no vision whatsoever. Ask him what his vision is? Its time up for him. ATPSUZ can do better!

  5. My heart bleeds to see the type of union leaders we have. I wish we had the unionist like the late Lawrence Katilungu. Selfishness has killed us, we are just looking for political appointments. Thats iam made to believe that all those who negotiated if they ever did that were compromised.

  6. By the way , this is where Hikaumba is coming from . Believe me or not this is Hikaumba’s sentiments as well.

  7. From this blog i see that the Zambian diaspora is awake, or is it lack of access to the internet by the locals. Viva Zambian diaspora. Zambians respond to issues that affect you.

  8. Kamutumwa ulicipuba, just resign you don’t qualify to be a labour leader. A leader dies with it’s members.
