Two fishermen drown in Serenje

Two fishermen drowned on Wednesday, as they were fishing on Lake Lusiwasi in Serenje district.

Both Serenje District Commissioner Stanley Chibwana and the District Council Secretary Yaphet Simpamba confirmed the incident to ZANIS.
He said villagers in Nansala area retrieved one body while the other is still being searched for.

Mr. Simpamba told ZANIS that he received the report about the death of the two people last evening.

Mubiana Sibandi, a Fisheries Officer stationed at Nalubi, said of late a strong wind has been blowing over the lake causing dangerous waves.

  1. Too sad indeed, and please mwebalondo besabi give fish a break, likuleko napapata. I once lived in Chitambo at a place called kwana taupwa – Nalubi. And just 3 months ago some fishermen drowned because of not observing the weather. Please relatives mourn in peace.

  2. Sad news. There have been many deaths caused by drowning this month, Lake Bangweulu, 8, Katete 2 Itezhi Tezhi 2 and now Serenje another 2. May the Souls Rest in Iternal Peace.

  3. Of late we hav been hearing alot of stories concerning drowning. The gov’t shud put measures to ensure that we hav a reduction in such cases. One of which is to provide safer boats atleast in strategic places.
