Don’t steal hospital equipment – First Lady

Share

First Lady, Thandiwe Banda, has urged health personnel against stealing hospital equipment as it meant to benefit members of the general public.

And Eastern Province Minister, Isaac Banda, says hospital equipment should be looked after properly, especially in these times that some donors have withdrawn funding to the Ministry of Health.

Mrs Banda said it was not only immoral but also criminal for an individual to steal health equipment meant for public benefit for individual selfishness.

The First Lady was speaking in Nyimba yesterday when the she handed over various pieces of equipment to Nyimba District Hospital.[quote]

And the Provincial Minister said the donations to health institutions in the province will fill the gaps created as a result of donors withholding funds to the ministry.

Meanwhile, chief Ndake of the Nsenga people in Nyimba district has commended the First Lady for providing hospital equipment to the institutions in the province.

Chief Ndake observed that Nyimba District Hospital in particular had a critical shortage of equipment.

Among the items donated included crutches and wheel chairs.

The First Lady is in Eastern Province to donate assorted pieces of equipment to selected health institutions which include Nyimba, Chipata, Lundazi and Petauke.

  1. WHy all the stuff To Eastern province just today it is reported that ferterliser would be given to farmers in Eastern province is this just not a campaign gimmick by RB? The utra sound scanner at UTH breaks down most of the time why can’t Thandi think of donating one there. So many people have died becasue of lack of vital equipment. Thandi how can people steal what is not there in the first plcas except for expired drugs from India and the west.

  2. Following “Mrs Banda said it was not only immoral but also criminal for an individual to steal health equipment meant for public benefit for individual selfishness“, where is the first lady Mrs TB getting the equipment she is donating. Is it public equipment which she is donating in her personal capacity or what? Let us check ourselves first as the Holy Bible outlines in “Matthew 7:5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye” before saying something of this sort.

  3. Following “The First Lady is in Eastern Province to donate assorted pieces of equipment to selected health institutions which include Nyimba, Chipata, Lundazi and Petauke“, I would rather the first lady continued donating such things in others provinces first where she does not come from.

NCC could you please look into blocking a first lady from distributing things of this sortin her personal capacity so that voters’ minds are not compromised.

    Have a blessed day all.

  4. Where has Thandi, all of a sudden, got the money to buy all these pieces of equipment she is donating? Are these things being donated by foreign entities and only using the first lady’s stature to distribute the equipment? I am not decrying the new found charitable spirit by the first lady, only questioning the sources of her funding for her to afford all these things she is donating, less than a year into her husband’s presidency. Can she clarify this matter please!!!!

  5. Yambayamba,

Yes the first lady wherever she goes, she has special interests of the Zambian people at heart. She knows what Zambians desperately need to improve their wellness. She talks to right institutions and people to help Zambians. She competently engages them when asked about Zambia. You know typical of teachers, she is very articulate, immaculate, deliberate and detailed if engaged such that you see seriousness in her the passion for the people.I saw it when he recently visited California. While other first ladies were busy shopping, Mrs Banda has serious big support cut appointments. She has received a lot of local and foreign private social support pledges towards her cause for Zambia.Expect more through her.I know of two US corporations in partnership with her vision for…

  6. You will never go wrong if your passion is of mitigating and solving health problems citizens suffer. She is in the right niche of social works and community service other than soliciting for salaula outfits.Fight for the education of girl child, women’s ovarian and bread cancer, maternity challenges and breast feeding, your vision automatically gets are in the money and technical support. This is why throughout History, teachers have been successful transactional and transformative leaders because of their grassroot connections.Teachers aren’t elitists but commoners for social justice.Liberation struggles were led by teachers who across the continent became post colonial national leaders.

  8. The first Lady should ask her husband to join the fight against corruption. Appointing people like Dora in government sends a wrong signal to the donors.RB should start acting like a president of Zambia not chi MMD cadre .Forget about PF for once ,concentrate on ruling Zambia

  9. TB should learn to be prudent. She was supposed to give positive advice instead of exposing all workers as thieves. The world has now a wrong working culture about Zambians. There are so many ways of killing a rat ba TB. Learn to be diplomatic in your speech next time. Use words pregnant with meaning. Thats why you are failing on Dora.

  10. At frst TB gave an impression that she was going to be different frm th former first ladies. To the contrary she is now behaving exactly like Vera and Maureen, to some extent even worse. Imagine, all of a sudden she has become mother christmas donating anything that she gets frm unknown sources. To make matters worse her talking is slowly becoming offensive like her seventy somethng yrs old hasband when talking about sata, HH and th post.

  11. Thandiwe and RB are the ones that have been robbing the people of Zambia in the name of donations. These guys just need some good salaries which you and you hubby,RB are busy dishing out.Watch what you say

  12. How come this couple is concentrating only on eastern province? Is he president only of eastern province?
And how easy is it to steal hospital equipment that it is using?
Did TBB just need to say something?

  13. Iwe Thandi if there was any equipment to steal your hasband and his cronies wouldnt be going outside for medical aid? waba kukanwa

  14. I dont dispute the statement given by thandiwe about stealing in the health institutions. I was very shocked to find some of the bed linen on a cloth line somewhere in lusaka with lables clearly written ministry of health. She knows there is a lot going on in the system. the big timers go for for big monies, but those who cant manage that go for things that they would manage. I dont know why there is still a difference between the mine hospitals and the Govt. The mines still have equipment for any procedure, ask for medicines, unless there isnt in the hospital, but majority of Govt, ni go and buy even panadol. most of these chemists in lusaka are run by the same thieves from these hospitals. Shame indeed. Hospitals have stopped functioning as healings places, but death centres .upsetting

  15. #9…, Senior Citizen: Thanks, I appreciate your comments and clarification on behalf of the first lady’s behalf.

I also watched one of her interviews she gave when she was in California for the World Health Conference (I believe it was). I was also impressed by what she said and her sincerity. She genuinely seemed concerned about issues of health back home.

As long as she is being a good ambassador to the world on behalf of Zambia, no one will fault her for distributing donated stuff. The only unacceptable thing would be for her to use taxpayer money to do what she is doing and make it seem like it is from her own initiative.

  16. #16 ShiMaster, Spot on. You have taken the words out of my “key board”. The first lady seems to be concentrating on Eastern Province. These Umodzi ku mawa never cease to amaze. When she went begging for that equipment in California or wherever she was doing on behalf of the country not one province.

  17. # 24 Blue Blood & #16 ShiMaster,

Believe you me you are being mischievously malicious.I happen to have a comprehensive list of the the first lady’s national wide projects which i support in policy. She has been everywhere with Zambians on the ground.I say so because i have resourcefully helped direct a number willing US based Global humanitarian organizations and funds to partner with her in matters of mother/child healthcare needs and early education.Just last week i managed to network with a group of infectious and tropical Diseases control physicians passionate with Africa. After presenting a policy paper of challenges facing Zambia, the California and Alabama based physicians have asked me to find them a grassroot partner to work with.Mama Banda wins the networking bill.

  18. #26 Senior Citizen, what is malicious in observing that the donations are mostly going to one province? If you adore her to the point where you cannot stand other people criticising the way things are being done that is your problem. Some of us will not be afraid of pointing out whenever we feel things are not going well. Since you are working with her, please advice her to donate to hspitals in other remote parts of Zambia as well the way Mrs Mwanawas used to do. Not just to Eastern Province all the time.
