Mbereshi cuts food rations for patients

Share

Mbereshi Mission Hospital in Kawambwa district of Luapula Province has reduced its food rations to patients from three to two meals per day.

And government has urged hospital administration to put the welfare of patients first, saying patients were the main reason they were employed.

Assistant Administrator for the hospital, Grainer Chizoma, said management has been limping in terms of funds and decided to cut on food rations to its patients effective July 14, 2009.

Dr Chizoma said there are a number of programs being undertaken at the Mission Hospital and funds from government have reduced from K32million which was received every month.

Dr Chizoma revealed this yesterday when Luapula Province Minister, Boniface Kawimbe, visited the institution.

He added that the situation has not been good for the health institution because funding has been fluctuating. He disclosed that the K10 million meant for the month of May was only received last week.

He added that the other contributing factor to the reduction of food rations to the patients was because the districts which had been supporting the hospital had stopped doing so as their funding had been reduced.

Dr Chizoma said what the hospital was giving in terms of meals was breakfast and supper, saying management would not be giving patients lunch because their relatives would provide that as it coincides with the visiting time.

And Dr Kawimbe told management to notify government whenever the institution was faced with problems that affected the patients.

He noted that the reason medical personnel reported for work were patients and that if there were no patients they would not have jobs.

Dr Kawimbe further said that although he was not in charge of the health sector he would take the message to the Ministry of Health so that government could take action because it was committed to improving health service delivery.

The minister added that food was vital for patients and that it would be better if it was other programs that were to suffer because food was part of medicine which contributed to the healing process of patients.

  1. Nokwesha baesha bawesu! Thought they don`t give food any more in Zambian hospitals. If they still do God I do not think I would even bother!

  2. Now patients are suffering coz of your theft you selfish people. Learn to serve the people who put you in those positions. I propose you forego your mid term gratuity so that its channeled to the MoH. Please have a heart for poor Zambians mwefilwani imwe.

  3. Why someone with a PHD for “Assistant Administrator for the hospital” position? I thoght this is a position which could be filled by someone with say a diploma? I would like to be wrong though! But hey niku Zed!

  4. These are dooms days for MMD government. Actually patients should eat atleast 5 times a day since they don’t eat as much as each meal. In addition most medicines are taken every 2 hours. Food is part of medication.

  5. Ba UCZ Church whre are u @. Abantu benu kumbelesi bakyula ngansi. Peleni ubupe…
Dr kawimbe has done it all. i wonder why he cant just step down and leave the job for others.

  6. Dr. Kawimbe you are just ashamed of yourselve and your fellow crooks. How can you be surprise as Provincial Minister coz you must know when allocations are being reduced or increased for departments in your province.Anyway can’t be surprised you don’t know especially that you are working with your fellow carder Chikwakwa as Permanent Secretary. What a province. Please help the patients at that facility to have three meals a day as it will even help in the healing process.

  7. Hypocrites and parasites will never cease to amaze me. Kawimbe must surely give a concrete reason why his area is suffering like this. meanwhile they want mid term gratuities yet the patients will be drinking water for a meal as the 3 square meal is reduced to 2 meaning they have to fill the bellies with water and if they have it clean that is.

  8. Next to be reduced will be the dosage for all medicines, from full to half! And the MPs will be celebrating with their K420 million gratuity and K1 600 000 per day from CRC plus RB’s committees to look into the salary structures of civil servants! I forgot to mention their monthly entitlement of K78 million per month allowances! Do you think they even know that there are people in Mbereshi???? Besides, they don’t even know where it is on the map of Zambia! Lord, we need your help now!!

  9. #14 you are right on. this has already been done. thats why they open pharmacies at the hospitals with stolen drugs and they tell you to buy the medicine which was supposed to be free of charge.
have you wondered why UTH has a pharmacy rite next to it? that building was not part of the plan as UTH was built with an internal pharmacy dept where simple formulations, dilutions of concentrates were to be done but the mukukulus have ripped UTH to pieces such that patients think that pharmacy has come to serve them the distance from the famous cairo road pharmacy

  10. Ala kanshi ku mbereshi hospital, patients were having three meals a day? This is pretty stimulating because only very few can afford three meals a day,let alone i mean decent meals not fye ifyumbu for breakfast, ubwali na chisense yankwangu for lunch and ama bans na zikolo for supper.

  11. It is so painfull that such institution have there funding reduced while we always find funds when it suits a politician-Mid term Gratuity, R B’s holidays with his entourage. oh i forgot is that why they bought the hearses.

  12. #18 …yes thats why they bought the mandamandas-Tetamalilo. They new that soon people will be dying in numbers and there will be no one to burry them as all their relatives will be suffering from hunger. Just to advise you , dont go back home this time ..wait until the Tetamalilos are on their knees otherwise you could be number one to test them.

  13. That was a good strategy by the Hospital Adminitration to speed up funding from GRZ. In fact well timed since Dr. Kawimbe is medical practioner. On the other hand mission hospitals are a problem when it comes to feeding patients. What happens to funding from CHAZ/Global funds. There is need to audit mission run hospitals periodically some one could be living in paradise on earth at the expense of inteded beneficiries. By the way who runs Mbereshi Mission is it CMML or who? Can someone explain to me.
