A civic leader has attributed the increase in criminal activities in Lusaka’s Msisi compound to inadequate police presence in the area.
Nkholoma ward one councillor, Francis Daka says criminals are taking advantage of the limited number of police officers in the area to terrorize residents.
Mr. Daka said in an interview that the delay in completing the construction of a police post near Shoprite Checkers along Kafue road has further contributed to thefts in the area.
The councilor urged the Lusaka City Council to pay up the constructor in a bid to ensure the speedy completion of the police post.
And Ward Development Committee Chairperson Melody Mate said the existing police posts are inadequate to police the growing population of the area.

Police presence will not be adequate in Misisi because they are busy trying to survive, after having had their salaries delayed by their caring employer, who, funny enough, did not delay nor default in paying a “GHOST WORKER”
Possibly, Police may also be genuinely fearing to confront the criminals in the area who may be members of the MMD Journalists Beating Battalion residing there.
Lack of employement and social benefits are behind these crime activities. Just offer those would be criminals jobs and good salaries. They won’t have time to steal as they will be self sufficient.
Even if you put policemen there, they are always rounded up in their hundreds to line up anlong Independence ave , Addis Ababa and Great East Roads to cover our Roving Presido !
45 years down the lane and we still call that place Misisi, iye mwebantu, where is the wheel of change spinning zambia to? All this is becoz if lack of political, economical and social will from one man in zambia, the person who holds the presidency to the republic. Kaunda must be ashamed to even say he is a former leader of this country becoz these shanties mushroomed in his era. Chiluba shud simply keep quiet and the late plus ruba they shudnt even open their eyes. when crime is taking place sometimes in day light, they are busy calling cops to line up independence, addis and great east roads, shame on them. bakapokola nabo they must change their attitude otherwise we will throw in a towel
you dont deserve police presence there because you- people there are weired.once they give you one you raze it down.so stay the way you are.
#5 Akapondo,
You are spot on. In addition, the same people like Daka even know who the criminals are but they just keep quiet. ZP should also do a good job on planting some informers in the area for them to be surveilling the area in question. When are they even demolishing those filthy shunties kanshi? We heard they would find alternative places for the residents in readiness for demolition but it is now quiet until we hear that someone pulled a fast one on the funds intended for such a project.
Infact misisi compound should be demolished.let those with money to put nice structures like those coming out on kafue road buy out those unfortunate coleagues with shacks in misisi so the can have capital and go start a new life elsewhere.it’s timewe changed the image of lusaka by removing eyesores.
