And Kasama Municipal Council has shut down 36 bars for contravening the Liquor Licensing Act.
Acting Council Town Clerk, Francis Nkhoma, confirmed the development to ZANIS in Kasama today.
Mr Nkhoma said the six adults and six juveniles were picked up following their unruly behaviour when the Council police raided the bars and night clubs to enforce the law on liquor licensing, over the weekend.
He expressed concern that under-age children have continued to patronize bars and night clubs contrary to the law.
Mr Nkhoma has threatened to revoke trading licences for bar and night club owners who deliberately violate the law by allowing children to patronize their places.
And Mr Nkhoma revealed that 28 bars were closed in Kasama for failing to observe the stipulated time of 22:00 hours for closing their premises.
He also said eight other bars were shut down for operating without licences.
Mr Nkhoma has since warned bar and night club owners found abrogating the Liquor Licensing Act that they would have their premises shut down indefinitely.

If you can close 28 bars, then how many bars are there in a small place like Kasama? to imagine that there are also Kindi, Katata, Involo, Tankamana, Katubi and Kachasu to name but a few local brands of beer in different localities scattered around, then what time do people have to be productive? Awe chachilamo fisaleni ifi bwanse ifyo, abaiche bachilamo ukushana ichila chamukule. Even in olden days the chief used to cane abaiche for dancing ichila chamukule the whole night and failing to go mumabala.

I think lawlessness pa zed naiya sana. Surprisingly enough, if the same was done to taverns in Matero or Lilanda some political parties would claim victimisation.
It is just a pity that even juveniles were allowed to patronise those places and it is because of this that even cases of childhood deliquincy has always been on an increase

Where there are no jobs, sex, alcoholism, drug-taking, and crime become the main sources of preocupation among idle minds. Working classes choose suitable times to patronise the clubs/taverns. The closing time of these businesses does not control them. Bars are 24hours here in the UK and Northern Ireland and people are still highly productive. However, this is not to say overdrinking and other vices are ok in the absense of jobs. One’s health can badly be affected. Conclusively, the gvt must encourage local investors, to in turn employee most of our youth who are just roaming streets.
36 bar and night clubs in Kasama, I think that is too much for such a town and this means there are others that are still operating. One wonders how many bars and night clubs are there. Anyway good job Town Clerk and your officers and you must also control the issueing of the same licences and ensure the premises are inspected so that atleast they meet the minimum standards.
