Government will not disband the Task Force on Corruption-Shikapwasha

Share

Government says it will not disband the Task Force on Corruption following other important pending corruption cases.

Chief Government Spokesperson Ronnie Shikapwasha has explained that it will depend on the Minister of Justice who is also the Vice President to decide when the work of the Task Force should come to an end.

Lieutenant General Shikapwasha told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today, that there are still many other corruption cases that the Task Force on Corruption is supposed to investigate apart from those involving the former President Fredrick Dr. Chiluba.

General Shikapwasha disclosed that the Acting Chairperson for the Task Force and the Attorney General are some of the people who will work closely with the Minister of Justice to ensure that all pending cases are investigated before the Task Force can be disband.

He was reacting to calls from civil society organizations and sections of the society that are calling for disbanding of the Task Force on Corruption following the acquittal of former republican president Dr. Chiluba by a magistrate court.

Meanwhile, General Shikapwasha who is also Information Minister has urged Non Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) to accept the assented NGO bill and operate within its powers.

General Shikapwasha noted that the new NGO bill is a law like any other hence the need for NGO’s in the country to adhere to it.

The Minister has however, said that if some NGO’s are still grieved with the current conditions in the bill, they are free to make amendments at a later stage.

President Rupiah Banda has assented to 13 bills that were recently passed by the National Assembly including the controversial NGO bill which seeks to regulate the conduct of such institutions.

  1. The task force has failed in their task they are not a toothless money machine thats only good for making noise . If you cannot conclude your investigations expeditiously within a a reasonable time then theres no point. Before we know it the task force will cost more than the same criminals stolen money they have, a typical case of killling flies with an AK47. It’s funny how poor zambians have quick trials and given long sentences and yet task force which costs goodness knows what is still doing their thing

  2. We donnot just know what corruption the honourable minister is talking about; is it only for Chiluba?how about mandamanda issue .how about the 27billion for health ,what about Mabenga what about Dora and many more scandals ,not talked about;;?

  3. Shikapwasha should maybe convince us beyond reasonable doubt why the tastk force should not be disband.Otherwise there is much evidence which has shown that task force on corruption has failed to produce meaningful results and the performance of its duties is below par. Besides its obvious that more money has been spent on task force and its now too coastly for the country than ever before, unfortunately the fight against corruption itself is very selective. we havent seen meaningful results anyway, so task force should go.

  4. Yes Reverend, do not disband it so that the same institution comes and prosecutes you and your band of thieves after 2011.

  5. Shikapwasha is like water. It takes the colour of the container. If RB says this or that Shika will not question it. When Levey was removing FTJs immunity I never heard Shika say any thing to the contrary. What a shame a rev who cannot live the way Christ lived. On the day he was to be arrested, Jesus went to Jerusalem on his own even though he knew he was going to be killed. Not so our Reverend Ronnie.
