The Lusaka City Council (LCC) says it will demolish structures built under ZESCO high voltage pylons.

LCC, Public Relations Officer Henry Kapata disclosed in an interview in Lusaka today that the council will in future demolish the structures near ZESCO high voltage pylons.

Mr Kapata said the Council will move in and demolish all structures that have been built under ZESCO pylons in Lusaka because the structures were a danger to property and human life.

He said the council has noted rampart illegal land allocations in Lusaka, by suspected MMD cadres hence the need for the council to move in and stop the act.[quote]

He said it is illegal for anyone to build under ZESCO pylons and the council will not allow the situation to continue.

Mr Kapata said the council has since, issued the residents with notices of demolitions adding that the council will this week visit the illegal structures to asses the situation.

Some residents in Lusaka’s Chawama compound and traders at Soweto market, have continued building permanent structures under ZESCO high voltage pylons despite numerous calls from ZESCO and the council to desist from the vice.

  1. Mr Kapata when you go ahead to perform that noble cause today, tomorrow we will see the PACT saying let us demonstrate.

  2. And how did the owner of structres aquire the same plots where they have built if its not you the same council who gave out those plots under Zesco high voltage pylons??

  3. Why did LCC allow the structures to be built in the first place? Talk about locking the stable door after the horse has bolted!

  4. Good ba Council but do not sensela lulya kawa. Anyway better late than never. Next time stop people at foundation digging stage and not after they have built and traded for years.

  5. For safety sake it better there removed other same pipo will turn against the council once an inferno errupts. Well done LCC.

  6. POLICE at Mazabuka police station say they were now tired of using the bush to answer the call of nature.
And relatives of suspects detained at Mazabuka police station cells are fetching water in containers from their homes to take to detained relatives because of the disconnection of water supply by the Southern Water and Sewerage Company to the police station.

The officers said the continued failure to reconnect water supply was a serious security threat to the district because the police could not answer the call of nature within the station, as they have to go in the bush or along the railway line leaving the station unmanned especially during the weekend.

”Our homes are worse, mind you, we have 86 houses and close to 600 people are threatened with an outbreak of waterborne…

  7. LCC , Ok we understand that these strutures are illegally built, , so how can you allow them to be bult in the first place, if these pipo where stopped earlier, others wouldnt have followed, awe mwe shame on you.Lcc.

  8. # 11 Great thinking, where was the Damn Council and Zesco authority when these illegal structures were elected….Lets be pro active…Anyway go head and do the right thing to serve lives.
Go further find out which Foöl authorized the project. There must be some ka-ward chairman involved somewhere.

  9. Yes operating under the Zesco pylonz can be very dangerous and must be stopped fourthwith. But pleaze save us the unsightly, babaric and inhumane way of demolitionz by effectively enganging the people concerned for an orderly exit. The mess haz been created by both partiez somehow, and thoze people have “invested” hugely in thoze structures. Keep it up Kapata(LCC PRO).

  10. The problem we have at hand is the MMD Cadres. These cardres are selling land any how. They are selling any bare land they come across regardless whether it belongs to some one or not. They have caused a lot of problems and people have lost a lot of money after structures have been demolished. The thing is who is giving them the authority to do such illegal acts. The police are just watching while these guys are committing such crime.

  11. Shani mwe ma Bloggers
#16 it’s called cyber-life and a lot of Zambians have been empowered by the dialogues or exchanging of ideas via internet sites like this. Just join us.

As for LCC, what more can be added on to the observations already made above: how do you watch structures being erected in a NO-BUILD-AREA just to get up and tear them down after they’ve been erected? Zambia pleeeease!!!!

  12. Lcc should learn to plan for the the future or the future will plan for it self. why domolish when they have always been there, seing pipo building and no one stopped them.

  13. LCC and Zesco should work together and mount an aggresive sensetization campaign. Its not just building of structures near and trading under the HV powerlines but also illegal connections of power lines be it in homes or markets and other trading places. Yes demolisation ca be carried on but cz pipo are desparate the same structures and activies will resurface. Let LCC and Zesco make it an on going activity Let us not wait until we face human disaster action is now. What has happened to planned ridding streets on illigal vendors in ntown. The situation is geting out of hands. Pipo are behaving as though there is no law. Pipo need to source of income to survive but the current environment is not ok. LCC should do something. Its not politiking all the time but doing the right thing. WAKE UP

  14. #10 Tonga Bull. Its like those cops at Mazababuka police station are lazzy and have no initiative. Why answer the call of nature by using the bush. The police detain alot of suspects some petty some serious. They can use petty suspects to dig and contruct temporal pit latrines for their own use. The problem is we wait crying for GRZ to sort ut even simple issues. I was sadned when Mike Mulongoti visited Mufumbwe in N/Western and found th DC’s (Muyutu) office with a falling ceiling board. Come on guys at times let us be making some personal sacrifices. Surely do we expect the entire IG or Lemmy Kajoba to sort out such simple issues.
iwe Chingangu, town clerk help the cops beore they start doing on the main road as a protest. What has happened to councellor who beat up an accounts clerk?
