Same colour for all shops still on – LCC

Share

Lusaka City Council Public Relations Officer Henry Kapata has said the program of painting the shops in one colour is still on going.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today, Mr. Kapata said the Council was still negotiating with the Business Community on the colour that would be acceptable to both the public and the shop owners.

He said coming up with one colour has been difficult because some Business Communities have been suggesting colours that the others do not want.

Mr. Kapata said the program was likely to be delayed if shop owners failed to agree on the colour.

Mr. Kapata said the public should not be worried as the program would be implemented as soon as negotiations were over.

  1. What is the logic behind painting all shops the same colour as if they are mini-buses? Just tell the traders to refurbish and re-paint their structures! It will be boring to the eye to go into town that has all shops the same colour! Do Council Officials smoke dagga or what?? Hey, iwe Kapata, do you smoke ganja?? Never heard of this idea before…where did it come from? Definitely somebody in the Council smoked ganja from Mozambiaque!! I would urge the Anti-Drug Commission to be investigating even people who propose crazy ideas and arraest them on suspicion of smoking dagga!!! Starting with Kapata and his bosses at LCC

  2. What is the rationale of having the same colour for all shops? Surely what is more important are issues of safety such as fire escapes and electrical wiring? Shops selling different types of goods and offering different services should not all look the same. So what happens with big corporate and international shops do they also have to conform to the new colour scheme? Will Shoprite in Zambia look different to all the other Shoprites in Africa?

    • MY FRIEND, THE COLOUR OF THE BUILDING HAS GOT NOTHING WITH THE DIFFERENT PRODUCTS BEING SOLD BY THE VARIOUS SHOPS. WHAT MAKES SHOPRITE, SHOPRITE IS THE RED AND WHITE SIGN THAT SHOWS THAT SHOWS THAT SHOWS IT IS SHOPRITE. LOOK AT THE MALLS IN THE COUNTRY, THEY HAVE ONE COLOUR OUTSIDE AND WHAT SHOWS THE DIFFERENT SHOPS ARE THE POSTERS THAT ARE DISPLAYED OUTSIDE. MTN, FOR EXAMPLE, PAINTS THE INSIDE OF THEIR CENTRES WITH THEIR TRADITIONAL YELLOW COLOUR FOR CORPORATE REASONS, OTHERS CAN DO THE SAME. HAVING THE SAME COLOUR WILL BRING CLEANLINESS. PLEASE DO A BIT OF TRAVELLING AND YOU WILL SEE THIS CONCEPT IN OTHER COUNTRIES. COMING BACK TO THE ISSUE OF SHOPRITE, I HAVE SEEN A SHOPRITE MADE OUT OF RED PAN BRICK GIVING IT A RED APPEARANCE, I HAVE SEEN A SHOPRITE MADE OUT OF GREY BRICKS GIVING IT..

    • LET ME CONTINUE….. GREY BRICKS GIVING IT A GREY APPEARANCE… THAT DOESNT MEAN THAT ONE SHOPRITE IS MORE SHOPRITE THAN THE OTHER…WHAT WILL TAKE YOU TO THAT SHOPRITE AND LEAD YOU TO IDENTIFY THAT AS SHOPERITE WILL BE THE POSTER SAYING SHOPRITE……LOOK AT THE SHOPRITE AT MANDA HILL, IT CONFORMS WITH MANDA HILL MALL, THE SHOPRITE IN CHILENJE IS PAN BRICKS, THE ONE IN LUSAKA CBD IS PARTLY TILED AND BRICKS….SO YOUR POINT OF SHOPRITE IN ZAMBIA LOOKING DIFFERENT IN OTHER COUNTRIES WOULD FALL FLAT. IF PEOPLE WANT TO PAINT THEIR OWN COLOUR, THE LUSAKA CITY COUNCIL SHOULD CHARGE A FEE (HINT: OTHER WAY THEY COULD MAKE MONEY). WHAT WE ARE TRYING TO DO AWAY FROM IS THE ISSUE OF THOSE DRAWINGS THAT ARE PAINTED ALL OVER SHOPS, THERE IS NO STANDARD..PEOPLE DO AS THEY PLEASE!

  3. Thanks LCC for making me lol!! Indeed someone sat behind a desk with a tie and came to the decision that all shops should be painted the same color. News from Zed is funny.

The issue should be safety and regular maintenance. ha ha ha

  4. Only Faschist Hitler and his corterie painted buildings in one colour. Zambia is now a Faschist state. The most important thing to do is to control the type of designs that are submitted for approval, not those Indian structures in Madras, and the second class, let alone in Cha cha cha, Freedom and the industrial area. Improve those structures and Lusaka will be better.

  5. This is f o o lis hness and lack of imagination and reasoning. Next they ask all Boys and men to dress in same colours. Each busness shouldhave its own appeal..and colour is part of the business culture of each busines, small or big.. Just enforce the law of cleanness and Regular paintings of buildings should be one of the council act…

  6. ls RB mixing MMD and UNIP or he still doest know there is a difference!UNIP was one colour one nation,MMD multi colour and so on!please advises advise him.

  7. why create problems for urself -ati difficult in coming up with one color kwati balewamya-its a shame.and what a dull city it will be.next they will say paint all houses in 1 color

  8. please dont mess up with the colours at the manda hill and the arcades please………… change colours ku kamwala market and freedon way kuli ba mwenye. Yes instead of beauty its true people have been painting rubbish pictures on the shops. Not very good though but its not a bad idea, ubusali bwa ku penta penta nefishilingile ba koswe imwe.

  9. Is this a joke? Whoever came up with this idea must have been tripping on LSD and purple haze. I wont be surprised if all the shops are painted purple.

  10. This is the most stupid and *****ic thing I have ever heard!. Some one must be getting a cut from this, because it simply doesn’t make sense.

  11. Pure madness! Are these guys from North Korea!? These chaps need to think or maybe their heads are there just to keep their ears apart.

  12. LOL.

Pliz direct your efforts to better things – like consumer rights.

eg customers should have the right to return a purchase if they dont want it. I am not sure if things have changed but when I was in Zambia, you would buy an item and you were not allowed to return it once you go thru the door. Crazy.

  13. and this is what they call development??..Total rubbish! which developed country have they been to and seen red for all the shops in town?and besides each shop should have a different color for their logo so really..Come on people.

  14. I THINK THIS IS A GOOD IDEA one thing people should realise is that in Zambia many people keep painting all sorts of colours. The thing is not the colour of the buildings but the colour of the things being painted on the buildings. e.g the painting of boom soaps, mealie meal bags, purfumes etc the buildings look like clowns. Look at the olden days say in the 80’s and early 90’s shops where mostly white or a shop having a particulars colour with no drawings it looks smart. If people what to paint those products they have its better they have banners made by companies such as Grandad printers,Neon etc. If you have chance bloggers have a look at the pictures of shops in those years on the internet the towns looked beautiful. I think the traditional white would be the best.
