Share

The Foundation for Democratic Process says it hopes the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) will attend to the formal complaint that the ruling (MMD) would lodge against PF-UPND pact candidate Geoffrey Mwamba over his “tribal” remarks.

FODEP President Stanley Mhango says the MMD has the right to lodge a complaint against Mr. Mwamba adding that this is within their rights as aparty.

Mr. Mhango told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today, that no one should condemn the move by the MMD to lodge a complaint against the PF-UPND Kasama by-elections candidate Geoffrey Mwamba.

Recently, MMD deputy National Secretary Jeff Kaande said the MMD would lodge a formal complaint to the ECZ over tribal remarks by PF-UPND pact candidate in the Kasama by-elections.

Geoffrey Mwamba popularly known as GBM is alleged to have said Kasama Central was for Bembas adding that MMD candidate in the Kasama by-elections Burton Mugala is a “foreigner” who belongs to Muyombe.

  1. Why wasn’t Mhango so vocal when Rupiah Banda uttered tribal sentiments during last yera’s elections? Such sentiments have been exptessed before by other candidates. Why spit out so much venom against Mwamba? Conspiracy?!

  2. The Truth is GBM made a mistake. you dont go public to some of these things. Yes he comes form Kasama but does not live there. The other candidate LIVES there.

  3. mYes tribalism has no place in twenty-first century politics in Zambia and we need to fight tribalistic tendencies in our governance system. But denying fact and wishing away reality is not the way to go. It is level headedness, objectivity, magnanimity and tolerance which will help the country to eradicate tribalism. Not hypocritical finger pointing.
We need to accept that when parties are selecting candidates to participate in most elections, whether Council or Parliamentary, they currently give priority to candidates from the area in contest (the popular son of the soil syndrome). I have many examples I can site, one of whom is popular Dora Siliya, etc.
SHOUTING THE LOUDEST ABOUT A SPECT IN AN OPPONENT’S EYE WHEN THERE IS A LOG IN YOUR OWN IS THE WORST HYPOCRISY I HAVE EVER…

Parties must stop selecting candidates based on the area one is coming from (the popular son of the soil syndrome).
SO SHOUTING THE LOUDEST ABOUT A SPECT IN YOUR OPPONENT’S EYE WHEN THERE IS A LOG IN YOUR EYE IS THE WORST HYPOCRISY I HAVE EVER WITNESSED.
MHANGO MUST RESIGN FOR SUCH OPEN BIAS

  5. # 3/4,

Its shocking seeing how your PF cadre job has dragged you into state of self defeat. Yours is dangerous anti unitary state, anti people, I would call reverse sycophancy devoid of foresight and character to say the least. You see nothing wrong in a candidate making such inflammatory a decree in heterogeneous society? Don’t you know that Kasama is a cosmopolitan constituency with people from all over Northern Province? In your passion for tribal prejudices, what do you chaps make of the many Namwangas, Lungus, Mambwes, Hengas, Tumbuka making Kasama tick?

  6. I am waiting for MMD to lodge in a formal complaint.I come from Muyombe and its really disheartening to hear my fellow man from Muyombe being labbeld a former..Ever since did we become foreigners in our country. Doctor Kaunda had fought had to unite Zambia under his slogan “ONE ZAMBIA, ONE NATION”. At no point did I hear him utter any tribal word to the Bembas.I know Bembas in all might not be tribal but such remarks from one of them is very much worrying and actually threatens the peace of our country. I implore all peace loving Citizens especially our Bemba friends to Condemn this in the strongest sense.Abash Tribalism….ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION.

  7. The factt that RB said something very foolish does not exuse what this tribalist said. Two wrongs dont make a right. PF should have taken what RB said to ECZ. Tribalist comments should not be acceptable from ANYONE seeking high office. If this guy is elected, does that mean he will refrain from debating matters relating to any other part of the country except Kasama? Will he refrain from discussing infrastructure development in Lukulu, or education and medical facilities in Mpongwe? This sort of behaviour needs to be condemned whenever it happens. It is sad that Sata has endorsed this ignorance and the fact that the free press (Post) have remained silent on this incendiary matter.
