Solwezi’s increased accidents worries RTSA

Share

Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) Northwestern Province Regional Manager Dickson Musosha says the agency is saddened by the increase in the number of road traffic accidents involving school going children.

Mr Musosha said with the economic boom the province is experiencing, road traffic accidents have become rampant and there is need to find a solution before the problem worsens.

He was speaking when he opened an orientation workshop for patrons and wardens drawn from 12 schools held at Manyama basic school in Solwezi yesterday.

Mr Musosha said teachers should play a critical role in saving many children from road traffic calamities and greatly help to change the minds of pupils through sensitization thereby reducing accidents.

He said government through the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) attaches great importance to ensuring safety of children on the road hence the introduction of RTSA clubs in schools.

Mr Musosha called on teachers to share and disseminate information in an effective manner if it is to impact positively on their pupils.

He added that patrons in the RTSA school clubs should come up with activities that would have a positive impact on their pupils and be able to penetrate to communities.

  1. The problem does not lie with the children, it is the people that be hitting these children. If you drive, you would aggree with me that an accident does not happen because the person who got hit did not see the vehicle. Rather, it happens because the driver assumed the person will see the vehicle. Just because we are able to drive does not make us any better than those that are walking. We have to drive responsibly and in a sober state. Solwezi is just coming up, ad i can tell you whoever is hitting these kids can be connected to the excitement the town is having from the newly acquired incomes. Which means over-driving so they can be seen, drinking senseless so they can be seen, and cheating-then rushing home, so they can not be seen.
    Get your act together! ALA!

  2. Bakwetu, it’s not fair to be loosing the life of the next generation in this way, let’s drive as human beings not as elephants in the bush that they are unable to see an unt that is also passing same place where it steps it’s leg. God is seeing you stop doing it deliberately.
    Watchout!

  3. There is generally an increase in the number of traffic along the roads of solwezi.I do not think all these accidents are being caused by excitment from the newly acquired income.People have migrated to Solwezi and have handled cash before. You should also look at the state of the roads in the upcoming town which are pathetic to say the least.

  4. Let’s broaden our thinking beyond what Kalampa 4 Life has said, we then will have solutions. Police presence on the roads by way of road blocks and speed traps will go a long way. Stiff punishment as stipulated in the latest traffic offences will help as well. If you want to talk about people in Solwezi handling money, I will ask you this “How many North Westerners work in the new mines compared to people from the Copperbelt?” Let’s think again!!

  5. I’ll right away grasp your rss feed as I can not in finding your e-mail subscription hyperlink or newsletter service. Do you have any? Kindly let me know in order that I may subscribe. Thanks.

  6. GVT should help us by giving responsible contractors with effective equipment to work on the road- not road pave with defective machine
