ZNUT to use Teachers day to push govt for better conditions

Share

The Zambia National Teachers Union (ZNUT) says it will use today’s teachers day celebration to push government on many issues that affect teachers.

ZNUT Secretary General, Newman Bubala said the teachers will take advantage of the day to push for improved conditions of service for teachers and others.

Mr. Bubala said in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka yesterday that the teachers’ union will also pressure government to commence the negotiations for salaries and other conditions of services for next year.

Mr. Bubala said the teachers have pressing issues they have with government adding that all will be offloaded during the celebrations.

Meanwhile, Mr. Bubala said the teachers expect government to put more emphasis on the education sector as they present the budget this month.

He said particular attention should be put on infrastructure development by building more schools so that many children may have access to education which is vital for the attainment of 2015 MDGs.

He said the enrollment of teachers should be matched with an increase in schools in order to reduce the pupil teacher ratio.
