Police in Kasama have arrested a former Jubilee Zambia-Kasama Chapter Facilitator, Joseph Kachiliko, for allegedly pulling down MMD campaign posters ahead of Kasama Central by-election set for October 15, 2009.
And three people, suspected to be Patriotic Front cadres, have also been apprehended for masquerading as teachers when they featured on a live programme on Radio Mano yesterday to discuss the World Teachers’ Day.
Police sources revealed the developments to Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Kasama this morning.
The police said Mr Kachilliko was picked up on Sunday after he was found removing MMD campaign posters from an unfinished building belonging to the Catholic Church in the town centre.
They explained that Mr Kachiliko used a ladder from his home to remove campaign posters while leaving those for PF intact.
The police sources said the suspect was detained at Kasama Central police station before being released on police bond yesterday.
Mr Kachiliko, who has been charged with pulling down campaign posters contrary to the Electoral code of conduct, is expected to appear in court soon.
And the three suspected PF cadres have been detained at Kasama Central police station for impersonation.
The trio, who claimed to be teachers, denounced the government during a live sponsored programme on Radio Mano where they talked about the commemoration of the World Teachers’ Day which fell yesterday.
However, some alert teachers reported the matter to the police and the suspects were later apprehended at the community radio station.
Meanwhile, police in Kasama have launched investigations in the mater to establish the people who sponsored the suspects to impersonate as teachers.
In a related development, the Kasama District Conflict Management Committee has asked the Patriotic Front (PF) to release the foodstuffs that they had confiscated from the MMD on suspicion that food was being distributed to would-be voters in Kasama Central Constituency.
This was after the PF officials failed to produce the exhibits during a District Conflict Management Committee meeting held yesterday to discuss a complaint by MMD that the PF cadres had stolen foodstuffs from the ruling party’s campaign sites.
The Conflict Management Committee has since given the PF up to Wednesday this week to produce the confiscated items or risked the matter being taken up by the police for further action.

What’s the charge? Vandalism or treason? I hope they don’t give them a death sentence. You never know with African politics.
The Oxford dictionary defines Teacher as (1) One who instructs others in religion; a preacher; a minister of the gospel; sometimes, one who preaches without regular ordination (2) a person whose occupation is teaching.
Are the police saying that only teachers can make comments regarding the teaching profession on the World Teachers’ Day or at any other time?
The stories coming from Kasama are that the three were not representing nor impersonating teachers but made comments in their individual capacities. The only problem is that they were critical of government during the bye-election period.
Uko…its now 50/50 yet to see who will win..
Walasa #2,those guyz are teachers, this shows how ignorant some of our police people are,to teach does not require one to have a 4 years degree
Not worth to comment. Zambia is now a real Zoo let alone animal farm.
That is the calibre of your NGOs. The PF cadres WERE impersonating teachers and caught in the act. We all know what is meant by the word “teachers” in this case, unless you are a dunderhead. Can’t you for once call a spade a spade?
As quoated in the “POST” Davies Kapijimpanga’s comments should not be dismissed on the adoption an MMD candidate for Solwezi Central Constituency By elections. What basis are they using to adopt Teddy. The man is from Kasempa and there are enough men and women with grey matter than Teddy within Solwezi. Pande should should not be seen to be influencing politics in Solwezi with due respect let him come out clean. If the idea of entertaining the mention of former IG Mateyo will be a disaster for MMD. Let the District make their own choice otherwise PF-UPND will carry the day. Just like is happening in Kasama Central whwre GBM and Sata have camped even the likes of R Kapita and team are actively on the ground. Teta had his his own way of doing things which the MMD will not do.
Uko! And what does it mean for MMD to adopt a candidate from within Solwezi? There was too much noise when GBM said Kasama is for people from Kasama. We wait to see if MMD will bring Chanda to stand in Solwezi Constituency.
Less cost to tax payer if the vandal was cautioned. Less political immaturity if MMD replaced the posters. More credibility if police instructed all the parties to stop placing their cr*p on church buildings. More pleasure for all bloggers if it were not so sad.
Those of you that are talking about Kasama and you are in some island, should know that the race is not between the MMD and PF. It is between and PF. Ever heard of trying to beat ones record? This is what is hapenning. On Mr Kachiliko , he is as inocent as you. The MMD stuck poster on his building and he never sunctioned that. Hence the removal. He commited no offence but trying to tell the MMD to have maners. The MMD can do the opposition should not , that is the law the MMD knows. If they do it is right. The MMD and the Government a shameless bunch of people who have no soul, They giving money to any one who states support. Buying cards . This time around they should know that there days are numbered. They should start dusting their bags for packing in 2011. This is real. No jokes.
PF is for Bemba’s only. Its agenda it to put Bemba’s in government to dominate Zambia and its 73 tribes. What a shame! Tribalism is sinful!
