Health Minister Kapembwa Simbao says government is committed to improving the health of the people in the country.
Mr. Simbao says this can be achieved through partnerships not only with the private sector but community organizations as well.
This was in a speech read by Dr. Victor Mukonka Director of Technical Services at MOH on behalf of the Minister when the European Union (EU) donated 100 bicycle ambulances and 300 community health information cards worth K430 million to Ministry of Health in Lusaka today.
The minister is always appreciative of the support the EU continues to render to his ministry is through various programmes such as sensitizing individuals and communities to create demand for information on malaria prevention and treatment.
Mr. Simbao said government has put in place a number of activities in order to address the disease burden faced by the communities.
He also expressed happiness that the 2008 health management information system shows a 30 percent national decline in malarial incidence.
The donation is aimed at assisting the vulnerable in accessing quality health services
And speaking at the same function the European Union says it will continue funding the ministry of health and has appealed to donors who have pulled out to rescind their decision.
However, Head of E.U delegation, Derek Fee, says Zambia needs to improve its fraud departments to ensure donor funds are not abused.
He has also appealed to donors who are withholding funds to instead institute measures to safeguard their financial support.
Dr. Fee says the EU anti-fraud Office and the Global fund have offered technical assistance to the investigative organs of the government to prevent abuse of public funds.
He however says he respects the decision by some countries to withhold aid because the action is aimed at protecting funds provided by their tax payers.
ZANIS
All talk and no action makes Simbao a ….. minister.
Animal farm dramma in Zambia never ceases to amaze me…blah….blah….blah.No proper service delivery. Can´t these THICK HEADS emulate Nambia and Bostwana.
Government wont have it easy with the donors any more. Once the EU anti-fraud office starts handling the case, we will see some real teeth gnashing down corruption and real transparency will be established, too. This might mean a loss of some “fast buck” for many officials… so I’m not sure if they’ll allow this?
well look at how bregnat women deliver in colido ditches and streets thise is simply bcoz thy cant manage first all nab Kapoko in cels and let him pay back
THESE ARM CHAIR MINISTERS I WONDER IF THE DONOR FUNDING THEY ALWAYS SING ABOUT MANAGE TO REACH THE INTENDED TARGETS. EVERY DAYA IS BEGGING, BEGGING, BEGGING, BEGGINING; WE HAVE EVEN LOST SHAME TO BECOME SELF SUFFICIENT. EVEN IN SOME OF THE MAJOR THINGS LIKE FOOD WE CANT FEED OUR SELVES. YALIKOSA LEAGUE PA ZED. ITS SAD THAT THERE IS NO DIGNITY IN POVERTY. THE SAME PEOPLE ARE ATTACKING THE DONORS WHO FEED THEM AT THE SAME TIME ASKING HELP. SEBANA WIKUTE. IO VERAMENTE MI SI PAICE.
QUESTE LUOMINI PANSENO CHE QUANDO RECEVANO SOLDI NON USANO BENE. EPOI SEMPRE PIANGIANO PER BIANCHI. UNO GIORNO QUANDO NON SARRA’ SOLDI CHE COSA FARRIAMO NELLA NOSTRA PAESE- SAMBIA?

Nine chale its so true.Something is seriously wrong with the Zambian governance system. The country does not even feature among the top ten of african countries that has good, sustainable economical opportunities, rule of law safety, to mention but a few. This is according to a recent report released by the Ibrahim Index of african governments and the Kennedy School of Government @ Havard University. Even Rwanda that recently emerged from the ruins of war is doing better on the Index. In the SADAC region its first Bostwana, followed by S.A and third Namibia,I have been to these countries and I must say they make Africa Proud.
Why don’t you start by showing concern for the plight of the health workers first? If the nurse/doctor is happy doing his/her job, they’re more likely to go an extra mile to help patients. Give these health workers a decent salary increase, just like you the ministers are getting all these UNnecessary perks and getting fatter by the month. Work on improving the current infrastructure and not just sit around waiting for handouts (donations). The mentality of our government official really needs to change before we can start seeing any sensible and positive change in Zed. And just what the hell is a bicycle ambulance? An ambulance on two wheels that will move by pedaling it? To be a third world country is NO joke man! You take anything thrown at you with a smiling face and open arms…..
European union it is complete sham masquerading as democracy.
#7 Scripture, while Zambia is not yet a failed state, it is slowly sliding down that path. It is what Noam Chomsky classifies as a failing state. Among the conditions of a failing state are high corruption and crime rates, failure to provide services and a collapsing economic system.
We are doing retrogresively.Going down with bicycle ambulances instead of those hearses to have been changed to ambulances.Damn gorvernance.Stagnant *****s
Fellow bloggers, this situation in Zambia today will only get worse. What needs to happen is total government revamping. Out with the old-in with the new mentality. Put politics aside for a change and focus on the real issues affecting our country. We can not let politicians dictate to us and this is excatly what is happening. All that honking and the like am reading about is a good idea to show displeasure, but surely, there’s gto to be a better way to bring the issues of the state to the table don’t you agree? Our politicians are way too greedy and the few that go in uncorrupted, almost always end up coming out all corrupted and super greedy. We need to bring this to a stop. Zambians in the diapora, what can we do that’ll be meaningful instead of this usual blogg rhetoric? 16 crates…
Thats is why you trousers are getting torn in the needs, owing to much kneeling as you beg from the donors… How many times are we going to beg?? And from that we say we are improving.. Simbao, we are loosing..

Does Simbao looked concerned about heathy issues? The man can’t look people in the eye meaning that he knows it is all bluff.
These guys must be voted out enamsse and then they will learn the truth. Have they forgotten how ex-UNIP leaders suffered? Zambians, we don’t seem to learn from past mistakes. We would rather relive for ourselves.
aka kanayamba boza, he has learnt from nyasoyabeans
…Mr. Simbao you said…”government has put in place a number of activities in order to address the disease burden faced by the communities.” …please, can you or your flankies explain to the people what that means? Again, the same old cheap government statements that the think the poor citizens will buy. No more, I say no more of this garbage. You sir (the President, Mr Banda) and the rest of your cabinet are a disgrace to your own people and teh world. Mr Banda, you came here to the NewYork, talking about nothing but the same bull crap you tell villagers. Sorry sir, you will not go pass the next election as easily this time around. I’ll make sure you do not see another day in the the state house again. Your travel habits alone will be your downfall. RIP Mwanawasa, my true…
i miss levy, he idea and policies were well intended. look at this arn chair Simbao who can’t think strategically. the institution is still faced with alot of challenges and he can’t see that. some times i wonder a college drop out in the like of Sata made such a fundamental change in the HEALTH SECTOR. i can wait when this banda leave office and have a more caring learned leaders.
F.U.C.K This stiff necked fools. we are drifting far too deep into depression and reccession as a country. what has befallen mother Zambia? This Banda and his manions should be be stopped from contesting the coming elections.living standards keep falling every day
Simbao dont think we foolish to believe what you are saying. here is no primary health care in Zambia and the general health care system is pathetic. We ‘ll be happy and believe what you are saying when we start to see these hopeless leaders seeking medical attention from our own hospitals and not being evacuated to other countries even if they have flu!!!!! Dont be a joke Simbao and we are not happy with your governance especially where health matters are concerned. Are you trying to please the donor community???
SORRY FOR THOSE ERRORS FRIENDS. THE COMPUTER I AM USING IS PLAYING UP
i meet friends recently in joburg from ministry of health.they were attending a workshop on the health programmes that will revolutionise health care in zambia.investors have come up with aplan to build first class hospitals in zed-two or three.my concern is that in zambia ,it is all talk and no results.criticism seems to fall on deaf ears, that is why a european country is saying they are going to introduce anti fraund systems for us.it is ,if you look at it closely an insult.we can not manage ourselves.the give and manage it at the same time .so we are basically “the taken care of u”shame on us
#9 Mr. Mosi, I noticed your area of interest is that to do with the social sector and it’s development, visa-viz the impact on the general citizenry. I kind of tow that line too. And I want to take you back, and I beg your pardon for that! I want to bring out back the issue of HIV and AID. I followed the link on aid-science blogspot and found the information quite alarming and disturbing in the wake of so much money being spent on the Publicity, mitigation and the so called treatment. The adversity on the opposing views as regards the cause of such a dreaded “disease” is appalling! Why not embrace the views of Dr. Mohammed Ali al Bayat?
One sure thing is that all the proponents of the the treatments are in it for the money, much as the the drugs to indeed extend the life of the…
# 24 Mogadishu. I am here my friend, looking and reading and contributing when I feel the need. it hurst my heart to see so many of my people suffer at the hands of the our own politiciand as well as the WEST. It’s true that a beggar is indeed not a chooser. As poor as our country is, we’ll just take anything. With regards to HIV/AIDS, yes my friend, i am very passionate about this issue. Am glad you followed that link I posted and read for yourself. These are things that mainstream media will never embrace or even question later on bring to the forefront. It’s all about money ALWAYS. What your read was for you to share with as many people as possible. People have to know the truth about this HIV/AIDS thing. I have many links I can give you but LT will delete them. Have an open mind…
