FAZ maintains Renard

By CHISHALA MUSONDA

THE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) executive committee has decided to maintain coach Herve Renard despite the poor results.

An emergency executive meeting was held at Football House yesterday to discuss the future of Renard following three losses in a row. Zambia lost 1-0 and 2-0 to Group C leaders Algeria and Saturday tumbled 1-0 to Egypt.

Insiders said after deliberations, it was agreed that Renard should be given more chance despite the team failing to qualify for the 2010 World Cup.

The team is also in a dicey position with regards to qualifying for the 2010 Angola Africa Cup, having accumulated only four points from a possible 15.

They must avoid a heavy defeat at the hands of Rwanda in the last game on November 14. Algeria have 13 points, three more than Egypt, going into the last round.

However, there were misgivings over the decision to keep Renard as some executive committee members wanted Renard sidelined.

“As far as I’m concerned, nothing has been decided. We could not vote…people had fears,” the source said after the meeting.

FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya, his deputy Emmanuel Munaile, treasurer Boniface Mwamelo, committee members Violet Bwalya, Pivoty Simwanza, Henschel Chitembeya, Keegan Chipango, Marcha Chilemena and general secretary George Kasengele attended the meeting.
Only Lenny Nkhuwa was absent.

“We discussed the future of Renard with the national team and programmes for the Cosafa and Cecafa tournaments,” the source added.

The Zambia national team will play in the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) Senior Challenge Cup starting in Zimbabwe on October 17 and the Chipolopolo have an invitation for the East African tournament scheduled for Kenya next month.

The association is expected to have a press briefing today to give details of resolutions.

  1. Fire the chap!!
Enough is enough, he is a disapointing. He is moreless a physical trainer than a coach….send to coach rugby

  2. First it’s FAZ that should go, then the coach! Them faz know very well of their short comings thus why they can’t even think of sacking the coach

  3. Everything is just a mess in Zambia, politics, economy, sport, social, corruption, tribalism, infrustructure such as football stadia, mal-administration etc. FAZ oh FAZ, HR is just a scapegoat and an innocent lamb on an alter for slaughter.

  4. …sack him after the Nations Cup in Angola when the contract expires,we still need him now and don`t want him to be paid compensation for the sack!

  5. Problem is, FAZ is untouchable because of their connections ku FIFA na ku State House. That Renard Chap cant even construct a word in English, how do you expect him to communicate with players who equaly cant utter a single word in english?

  6. Thot the FAZ executive would do an honourable thing, appologize to the nation and step down. And az good sportsmen, pledge to be available whenever called upon by the new executive. Goverment iz in a quagamire to discipline/ dizolve FAZ due to the over-protective big brother, FIFA. There may be no problem with Harve Renard, but he should learn when and what to say to journalists

  7. i still wonder wich coach pipo want and the material (players) from wer do we find them, The boys we hav ar the only material we hav, did u want the coach to jump into the game and score all those chances zambia had, i didn’t think so as well

  8. Zambia lacks a natural goal scorer, dats the problem we’ve had ever since Kelvin Mutale died in the Gabon crash. Its one we are gonna have regardless of who the coach is. Perhaps confidence is our current strikers is so low they dont believe in themselves. Most of them are actually ”midfielders made striker”

  9. We can bring the best coaches in the world and start preparing for 2015 may be, for now Rena is just ok, he has these bad seeds that he wants us zambian to be pround of. We hav just run out of time like i said we ar not just ready for a big competion lets start preparation now, zambia is finished

  10. #9,it is the coach’s duty to devise a scoring mechanism with the available players, failure to do that proves Renards incompetence, just look at his record and resources the country is spending on him and his fellow physical trainer. These chaps are just here on holiday

  11. You can even hire sir alex fargeson still you will not make it . Please leave the Coach alone. Start looking for good Strickers or Good Midfield Strickers. Players should Have game plans. the best have gone may their souls rest in Peace. We should just try to build a team which can win.We are good at Playing than Scoring.

  12. Ba solwezi, this guy is tryng mwandi, if u so the game we wud won it in the first half, the players made the coach to come up with those changes in the second half coz players stopped thinking. I wish ourselves all the best coz we ar in trouble now

  13. Football in Zed went with Zccm. Talk as much as you want, without money you can do nothing. Zccm sponsored teams were behind national success. We had the Might Muf Wanderers, Nkana Red Devils, Kalulushi Modern Stars, Nchanga Rangers etc. These teams were among the best in Africa. Unless wew have similar or higher levels of team sponsorships, we will continue to struggle.

Even here in the UK, the top teams are those with money.

    You are dead without money.

  14. the chances that zambia created on saturday showed that the coach is working absolutely well, our player’s legs are not that active.guys thats the way they are, its there organism.the tactics were perfect, but players cant use their legs to everybody’s expectations. leave the coach alone.when was the last time zambia won a team by a great magin? we cant even beat bukina faso by a goal now, the team we used to win by 5 nil in the first time.the problem is beyond renard.we are even lucky that we are loosing by a small magin.

  15. Mwebantu, playing well in a match is as good as nothing if you cant score and win(SEMBE SI SEBENZA).YES,the problem might be beyond Renard ie administratively, but he also should take the blame for not suggesting solutions to the problems that are affecting his squad.IFINTU KULANDA!

  16. why is kalusha supporting this fake coach?even lwandamina is just bussy enjoying outings, what role does he play.he must be more patrotic or is he also eyeing the job by leting everything to this opportunistic coach.hr has realised that there is cool cash in zambia which i think even in ghana he never had this type of remuneration .i wander he went to uk with 8 players against ghana.this is a big joke and please am fade up with the circus .give that money to PATRICK PHIRI who kalusha does not want but can deliver

  17. I agree that Renard is not the reason for Zambia’s poor performances. The problem we have is poor football administration and lack of funding.
FAZ councilors need to call for an extraordinary meeting to decide whether the current FAZ executive is the best manage football in Zambia.Kalusha and his team need table before the council the strategic plan they have for Zambian football,so that all stakeholders can see what is going on.
Performance targets and time frames must now be set and agreed to.If the FAZ executive and the coach fail to meet the targets or objectives in the specified time frame, then they must quit and allow others to bring in new ideas. It is as simple as that.

  18. I think we need to be serious as a country!! There is no way you can tell me that we do not have players who can score 4 Zambia. Surely, that chance that Kalaba was given on a ‘silver plata’ or even that chance by Mbesuma, don’t you think that those should have been goals??? Lets not just look 4 faults but learn to call a spoon a spoon!! the ones who are killng Zambian football are the players themselves!!!PERIOD!!! Even the under 20’s at the world cup in Egypt are playing better football than our national team!! Has anyone seen the goals being scored by those lads?? Do we really need to take those ‘NICOMPOOPS’in our for a scoring course?? To be honest those guys digust me!!!! Yuck!!!!!!!

  19. The problem is not the coach. These are the best players we have. You can bring in sir Alex Ferguson he will still have to deal with this bunch of losers. Even celebrated Kalu neva won the Africa cup or a trip to the world cup. Solution is to go back to grass rooots – youth soccer may be having a sound youth program can produce quality players in years to come. Lets not pretend like weare or were this great soccer nation. Even the perished team won nothing may they r.i.p.
    We stink period!!
