Nurses get stress management centre

Government has reiterated its commitment to improving the welfare of nurses and other medical personnel in the country.

Labour Deputy Minister Simon Kachimba said nurses were faced with a lot of challenges when carrying out their duties and therefore, there was need for them to have stress management activities.

Mr. Kachimba said this today when he officially opened the Zambia Union of Nurses Organization (ZUNO) Wellness Centre in Lusaka’s Mtendere area.

He said the Wellness Centre will provide among other services, stress management and voluntary counseling and testing.
He commended ZUNO and other stakeholders for coming up with the initiative of stress management.

And speaking earlier, ZUNO president, Thom Yung’ana said the centre was built with the assistance of the Norwegian Aid for Development (NORAD) which provided K383 million.

Mr. Yung’ana has since appealed to government through Ministry of Health to allocate drugs and laboratory equipment to the center.

  1. Kind of lost. The nurses and other medical staff will to the centre and be trained in stress management skills, or they will be providing the same to the public?

  2. Bushe Bashi Siva. What kind of thinking is this? Improve nurses’ conditions of service that will actually make a dent in their lives. How about a hefty pay rise to provide better for their families? That would surely take away all stress.

  3. Stress management courses will not improve the morale for the nurses neither will it buy food for them., all they need is just improvemnt into the conditions of srevice and thats it. Just give them enough money to see them go through the month and that will atleast reduce the stress.

  4. I keep asking this question imwe bantu please. How is it that these government officials can just make these ridiculous statements on record? I mean, some one has to be advising them or even writting these speeches fro them…but surely, they don’t make any sense at all. How the hell to you train a nurse to deal with stress on the job when the job itself is enough stress on its own? These people needs, salary increaments, these people need working conditions improved, thes people need to be reassured that, their jobs matter and they can and will make a difference. Mr. Kachimba, do you even know what stress management activities are? Reading these stories just gives me a headache sometimes….I don’t get it, I just don’t freaking get it man!

  5. What’s the cause of this stress.

Hope the right medicine is being applied to our nurses.

  6. Stress Management is easy, all i need to do is just take deep and slow breathes then meditate. listening to music also reduces stress.
