Itezhi-tezhi CS suspended again

Share

Itezhi-tezhi Council Secretary, Levy Nachome, who was recently reinstated by the Namwala magistrate’s court after a more than year suspension, has again been suspended on allegations of misappropriation of funds and office abuse.

Itezhi-tezhi District Council Chairperson, Michael Hamasuki, confirmed the suspension of Mr Nachome in a telephone interview today, saying the decision was reached during a full council meeting held on Friday last week.

“The full council meeting made a resolution to suspended Levy Nachome on grounds of misappropriation of council funds and abuse of office under his leadership. This suspension is not related to the issues currently in court,” he said.

This is the third time the Itezhi-tezhi District Council Secretary has been suspended by the council on similar allegations but he has been vindicated by the court.

Last year, the Council Secretary was suspended together with the treasurer, Caiaphas Chelebela, for alleged abuse of funds which included the DANIDA–supported rural and sanitation programme.

The allegation of financial abuse led to the withdrawal of funding for the rural and sanitation programme by DANIDA.

And Mr Chelebela recently lost an appeal of reinstatement at Provincial Local Government Appeals Board in Livingstone recently.
