MMD Solwezi central parliamentary candidate Albert Chifita followed by chairman for elections Mike Mlongoti after being adopted to contest the vacant parliamentary seat on the ruling party

THE MMD has picked former Solwezi District Commissioner (DC) Albert Chifita as the party candidate in next month’s Solwezi Central parliamentary by-elections.

MMD chairperson for elections Mike Mulongoti announced in Lusaka yesterday that Mr Chifita, who resigned as Solwezi DC upon his application to stand on the party ticket was picked from among 12 candidates.

The Solwezi Central parliamentary seat fell vacant after the death of Local Government and Housing minister, Benny Tetamashimba on September 5 and the Electoral Commission of Zambia has set November 19 for the by-election.

Mr Mulongoti said after undertaking a democratic selection process, Mr Chifita was found to have been the most suitable candidate who would be easy to sell to the electorate.

He said during the process by the lower organs of the party, Mr Chifita, who is a former deputy general manager at the closed Zambia-China Mulungushi Textiles in Kabwe, was picked as a sole candidate by the district and the provincial executive committees.

Mr Chifita, a teacher by profession once served as assistant secretary in the Ministry of Defence before he was seconded to the then Mulungushi Textiles of Zambia (MTZ).

Mr Chifita was MMD Central Province vice-chairperson until his appointment as Solwezi DC.

MMD deputy national secretary Jeff Kaande said that the party had all the confidence in Mr Chifita and could not doubt his political performance.

  1. I hope MMD gets a good thumping. Tired of watching my country retrogressing under Banda. I have nothing against Mr. Chifita, and I am sure he is a decent man, but we need to get rid of Banda he is too much of an embarrassment.

  2. iwe chinondo keep on dreaming with your wishes as we prepare to win hands down…..Solwezi is not “Kasama the heart beat of tribalism”. Hakasata can camp in Solwezi for one year but they will cry like they did in Chitambo.

  3. At least Chifita is better than the 2 Ts who are currently living in Lusaka. I hear UPND will field its 2009 losing candidate a Mr. Godfrey Lumba who is a marketing manager at Caltex. For sure why should we keep on importing candidates from Lusaka and Copperbelt. It does not amke sense. The MMD are likely to scoop Solwezi Central seat. It was going to be difficult for them to sell either Mulonga or Kasonso.

  4. Well come to the battle ground Chifita. But iam sure you and your sponsers will be sent back nashing your teeth with your tells between your legs.Viva UPND-PF.Abash RB

  5. It is not about Jifita or whatever his name is, it is all about kicking the MMD where it hurts, in the bu.tt. Let them pick up their katundu and disappear onto the horizon of political history. Talema nao maboyi.

  6. I know Albert Chifita well. I once lived in Kabwe and he could help his workers to better their salaries. He only cared about his own pocket. Ask any onyone who once worked for the defunct Zambia Chaina Mulungushi they will tell you the story. I dont know how he would handle the issues at that level once he scooped the seat.

  7. no wonder mulungushi textiles collapsed. how could a teacher become general manager of a textile company? Did he undestand the operations of the textile industry? If a lot of general managers are given posts like that, the country will never develop. anyway vote for the PF/UPND pact Solwezi people

  8. walasa Yaba.Lets kick these political charlatans and send them to political archives..yes to the political dustbins where they belong.Abash Rubish bin(RB).PF-UPND will never walk alone in solwezi

  9. MR editor update us on PF candidate ,we tired of MMD stories soon they will be like UNIP.MMD NINAMA YABAICHE………MR Chifita do not waste your money on politics buy yourself a Farm coz PF will kick your ass.

  10. MMD has the best policies to make Zambia a better nation but the supposedly leaders driving it are wack. At least the MMD choice is better in Solwezi Central Constituency though RB must go to his farm.

  11. People of Solwezi have the final say.
DO NOT vote for Chifita, because doing so means you are endorsing Rupiah Banda and his thieves to continue plundering the country.
Chifita may be a good man but is only a pony in Rupiah Banda’s game and continued stay in State House.
Send Rupiah Banda a clear message that he should GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. In case some of you have not realised it, the whole country doesn’t want anything to do MMD anymore. It doesn’t matter who you field. Field Pope Benedict XVI if you want but it wont change a thing. The sooner you realise that Zambians just want change as we did in 1990 the the better for you. Everyone wants emancipation from the MMD not just along the line of rail and major cities as before, but into the rural areas now. The power of change is unstoppable. MMD has no sympathisers in any tribe anywhere anymore. VIVA UPND-PF PACT.

  13. Chifita is a good candidate, its a shame he may be on the wrong party, but at the end of the day Solwezi should not vote based on party lines, vote for a candiate who will represent your interests. And I belive Chifita can do that, that is the type of representation zambians needs.

  14. We are licking our lips, lifted by our recent success in Warda nd council elections in northwestern province. The UPND-PF Pact is serious business. Piece of advice, although late, to you MMD supporters. Never pick a District Administrator for you candidate. People dont the like DA’s Chiluba created. They have offices at the BOMA’s + local courts where the public go for everything-NRC’s, Marriage, divorce, licences etc, and their 4×4’s are seen there parked, and the money being handled has been seen, and are identifies as people who’ve benefited the most for doing nothing! Thanks for your choice though made the Pact’s work easier.. Easy punching bag this guy.. VIVA PACT!!! HH camp their now. this is easier than I thought. LOOOOL!!!

  15. #20 Lelya. Dream on.. Zambia is like US now. We are Voting for Change not candidates. We are ticking anythign without MMD on it. Just jump on to the wave of change sweeping through!

  16. This guy has already been chewing as DA. What has he done with the constituency development funds hes been handling and the other Govt funds and ROAD development funds. You go to Solwezi there’s just chaos. Roads underdeveloped. Social amenities-hospitals, housing, clinics, promised with the coming of Lumwana hasn’t materialised. Money has been alocated to SOLWEZI, What has CHIFIT done with it. he first needs to account for the public money he’s handled and the things he’s done when he was in charge of the District.. Actaully we need madamme Anna Chifungula’s- Auditor General’s Report on this guy and this district. This is too easy. honestly MMD you should have selecte dsomeone else. LOL!!!!! VIVA PACT

  17. Kashiman i# 9,

What profession is the CEO of CitiGroup if at all you have any clue?.I’m a professional management consultant and can only advise you to research the education of most CEOs in the Corporate world. To your shock you will find most successful organizations headed by Philosophers, Sociologists,Historians, Political Scientists and lawyers.Very few Economist, Accountant or Management professional.you need to reorient yourself about the corporate world.Even here if acquaint yourself with some of these bloggers you learn that some Engineer is in management somewhere.

  18. People you need to go to Solwezi and see for you self. and not just talk and assume. Sorry to say this but it’s the least developed of all 9 Provincial Headquarters and has the WORST INFRASTRUCTURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! despite better funding over the last 7 years…DA is the main corrupt player. he’s the guy that administers governement money in districts. This Chifita was the one handling the District developement funds. Can he answer this simple question. Why does Solwezi still have the worst developed infrastructure of all the Provincial Capital despite 10 times more funding???? what did you do with the money?????

  19. #24 Management Consultant- CITI BANK CEO is Dr Vikram Pandit , born in in India to an afluent family, but now American Citizen. Holds B.S & M.S Degrees in Electrical Engineering , an MBA from Colombia university and PHD in Finance… I miss your point totally.

  20. Digga , the point is that even a Teacher can be a good corporate manager in response to Kashiman @ 9. Oh and even the richest in the world bill gates is a college drop out

  21. THE Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) has advised the opposition political leaders and some church leaders to desist from attacking President Banda and his administration, especially in the press.
EFZ executive director Pukuta Mwanza said opposition political leaders and the church must refrain from attacking Government as this is not helping to build the country’s young democracy.

CLEARLY, THIS ADVICE IS PREDICATED ON TRIBAL AFFILIATION. I MUST SAY THAT I’M AN EASTERNER MYSELF, BUT HERB AKANGIWA.

  22. The guy was a puppet to the Chinese during his time as deputy MD at Mulungushi Textiles.Seems like the MMD is so much into the “Sole Candidate” thing as Chifita was the Sole Candidate for the seat!

  23. No one is happy with RB in MMD though they seem to pretend. He is from no where. The pact is serious. If we can kick chifita and RB in solwezi then we can start following him ( RB ) in eastern province ( kasenengwa in particular ). We are there to help him lose.A president with no economical statement from the time he took over. No nothing. What a degree. VIVA PF/UPND. Solwezi vote the RB and Team out.

  24. # 28 , why should you expect everyone to hold your opinion like you are the creator. And when they hold different views then you accuse them of being trbalists. That thinking is just like the cadres who attack people at airports and at press briefing because they think their is no other view than theirs.

  25. #27 Positivist pa ZED. I agree with you only from the perspective of ENTREPRENEURSHIP!! It is true very many of the great entrepreneurs had limited education, but founded and developed all these Global Coprations we work for.. True.. But disagree strongly in any different context. A career employee, Manager your referred to MUST have demonstrated his academic and experiential skills relevant to the JOB. We cannot go back on this. A teacher, assume he has aDiploma in Teaching and not a Bachelor of Education Degree from UNZA(otherwise they would have mentioned it) that was assistant Secretary to a Minister IS NOT QUALIFIED for appointment as Deputy CEO of a Manufacturing PLant. Period. Stup$d political appointment. That’s why the company’ closed!!

  26. What will now happen to the senior civil servant who publicly declared his alignment with the ruling party?
These are the sought of issues the NCC should address and clear. because obviously one does not expect such people to deliver the same way they do tomorrow in case of a change of Govt., in fact at the moment very few apart from the senior civil servants want this group to continue presiding over the masses. you can imagine how Kasonso will relate with his juniors that are opposition. i feel for you my brothers. Hang in there. let Chifita also immediately put in his resignation letter to avid people getting double salaries like that lady, these things do happen in the civil service cirles. Public service commission, are you watching?

  27. How can the people he calls Nyamazai and plans on the fascistic mass internment vote for his candidate?

What can this Mulenga Kamalasha chap tell Kaondes whom Sata calls Nyamazais he vows to deport them all to Angola. Hardly 4 months ago Sata’s disciple and right handman Chishimba Kambwili from the PF playbook read out that the whole of North Westerners are a substandard society.Infact in 2001, 2006 and 2008 Sata ourightly refused to step his foot on NW soil saying the people there are Angolan Nyamazai.

Just how would they align with him who say they are Angolan Nyamazai he would massively like Hitler did to the Jews deport them all to Angola? He says publicly he would instead take there his fellow Nuacusas-Mwachusas from Tunduma and Mbeya, Tanzania for settlement.I have no doubt…

  28. I have no doubt Sata will be asked these questions on every twist and turn why he calls then Nyamazais and is planning on them fascist mass internment.

  29. Yaeh ia gree with you too Digga, that a carreer manager should be trained in business management.. But ofcourse this is not a hard and fast rule. there are some remarkable individuals ( and I am not saying Chifita is one ) who are very competent sithout the specific training. Do you Justin Chinyanta ??? He is a trained lwayer who is one of Africa’s top financial consultants

  30. We are not threatened chifita was incinted to resign as DC, he will regret his DC job If he loses this by election, watch it.

  31. #37- Positivist. I completely agree. You are a progressive Zambian I see. Justin Chinyanta is a true example of the best of Zambia’s brains. A true example of what a Zambia is capable of. He set-up LOITA Pan-Africa Banking & Financial Services Group with operations in Four sub-saharan countries. Loita Bank in Malawi etc. In Zambia his financial sevices group has ineterest in the likes of ICC(Industrial Credit Company) through parental ownership. The Is on the board of ICC holding company incorporated in SA.. Serious guy.

  32. Bloggers on this sate are just so bitter> how long will you gnash your teeth , and complain like spolit babies. Jump in the political ring and make changes, otherwise the crap will continue. I say this because even if PF loses, it is basically a replica of MMD. So we still have the OLd politicians @70 something in pole positions…. So walk the talk and come change. Otherwise we will continue with the Mulongoti etc

  33. THE NCC has recomended something to the effect that there should be at least two years period between a civil servant should resign at least two years before taking up a political position.

  34. THE NCC has recomended something to the effect that there a civil servant should resign al teast two years before taking up a political position.

  35. Pipo of Solwezi, remember what Chishimba Kambwili said against you . Also remember what GBM said in Kasama on radio Mano. Please donot be swayed by these guys. Vote for your own. Vote Chifita who is Kaonde and from Solwezi. This does not sound different from what GBM said in Kasama

  36. @42 if it is true then things can work out well. we need to screen these guys before they go for it.
we can see the kapoko’s walking hand in hand with the Head of State meanwell all money is gone.

  37. The only way to insult PF and Hon Chishimba Kambwili is not to vote for the PF/UPND pact. MMD sound win this seat soundly and convincingly. Chishimba Kambwili’s comments had the blessings of SATA because he is also on record of having insulted you pipo of the NWP. ABASH PF and Sat in NWP, ABASSHHH!

  38. The only way to insult PF and Hon Chishimba Kambwili is not to vote for the PF/UPND pact. MMD should win this seat soundly and convincingly. Chishimba Kambwili’s comments had the blessings of SATA because he is also on record of having insulted you pipo of the NWP. ABASH PF and Sat in NWP, ABASSHHH!

  39. u pipo hw honestly could u pick mr chifita, wht a miss ,u MMD team, tht man haz owayz been a failure in life ,he failed to do smthing for his black, from mulungushi textiles wre he waz director he failed to stand for his local zambia’n pipo instead he waz a puppet to the chinease stupid so called investors, pipo lost jobs,nd thoz who remained wre getting peanuts as little as k60 000 for a family man,nd he could not do anything abt tht,nd wht do u thnk he can do for a constiuency, viva PF/UPND pact.

  40. 46 agree with me if your son or daughter insults other people means they had the blessings from you as a father. Thus what it means no matter how you can defend it.

  41. Digga, I stand by what I said, a good candate on a wrong party. As a person that grew up in solwezi, the man is a people’s man whose reign as dc was without conflict. The grass roots people need candiates who understand there well being, and not town representative. All we can hope for is that may the best man win! I see this by election is very close to your heart, as you have been very active today(#21, 22, 23, 25, 26, 32,39), any personal interets perhaps!!!!

  42. I am disppointed with some of the learned here who can even access Internet but can fail to see that pipo are fed up and dont want MMD & RB..As at now you can even field my favorite (Pres.Barak Obama) on MMD ticket, he can still fail.Luk at the scandals just past 9 months of this MMD govt..PF/UPDND is taking Solwezi too..WE WANT CHANGE.!!!!

  43. # 51 Tombolilo, Who are the people?? that is the question you need to ask yourself . The MMD has been wiining thru capturing the rural vote where the matters are very different from that in Lusaka and copperbelt ( and ignorance is high)t. try not to bilnded but the strong anti – government opinion in Lusaka and assume that you have captured a national mood. And this is what good political strategists consider when campaihning . In my opinion as of today the anti Rupiah sentiment in Lusaka , where I reside is not as strong as the Anti Mwanawasa sentiment was n 2006, but he won ( and he was ill so he did not campaihn adequately) . i

  44. To add on, Tombolilo, just go even to deep Chongwe, there issues are not bout ZAMTEL. or the President travelling. Their concerns are more to do with fertlizer , roads, price of maize etc

  45. #52,, U should know that MMD has been losing at ward level terribly..check the facts in Western Province, Luapula or Northen Provinces…I believe u are part of the MMD that cant agree on the wind of change sweeping thru..Start writing your ”political will” bwana..you are going…

  46. Like i said , relax and this conversation has nothing to do with who we surport..But we should try to have a sober look at the facts. You can not pick say twenty wards in three provinces and make a conclusion, that is statistically incorrect. And that is where the oppostion strategists have failed to upseat the MMD by asuming that you can base your hopes on certain regions and afford to ignore others ( this is something Sata admitted in 2006). Ask yourself how many provimces Mwanawasa or indeed the Rupiah won with and you will see that it is not a conclusion that MMd will loose. My bet is all things being constant, ( that is the mood and present pattern of tribal voting) MMd will only loose if the PACT holds..

  47. Lelya.. The man may have merits as you say but the wind of Change is strong. I mean 20 year of one Party is too much. not much differerence with UNIP’s 27 years but with a terribly worse social & economic performance record. My interest in this election. CHANGE. It’s one of the PACTS real challenges. Real battle fields. A victory here measures progress towards a resounding 2011 victory, shredding NGO & Media regulation Acts and incarcerating arrogant corrupt thievs starting with RB.

  48. To add on. politics is won by strategists and not emotion. You see just llok back at Dean Mungomba (mhsrip) He was one of our most articulate and passionate politicians but he could not win a single ward

  49. To add on. politics is won by strategists and not emotion. You see just llok back at Dean Mungomba (mhsrip) He was one of our most articulate and passionate politicians but he could not win a single ward
… Oh and i must add that rigging also plays its part. So dont count you chicks before they hatch

  50. well, #57 u may have strategies, but if the wind is strong as it is,,NO one will STOP it..as in # 56, 20 yrs is too much of one party state..PF/UPND pact will surely work, unless u doubt coz u wish for the continuation of this crooked one party state, for may be a beneficiary…

  51. No tombolilo, you are too emotional. Dont talk words like wind, try to travel round our coutry especially in rural areas and see whai I mean . The mood in Urban areas is not national. And even the question of years does not apply . Nearly all aprties in the region have been inower for over thirty ( except ANC and the Malawian party) So what i am saying is it is not yet a dine deal.

  52. And i felt like you did Tombolilo from 196 and the change was not coming. This is now three lections later so i have become more rational in my expectations and travelling around the country has given me insights on wht MMd is still rulling and believe me, Its still an uphill batle to remove them. I must also add that politics world wode has shown that removing an incumbant is always an uphill battle especially in underpriveledged contries like ours where the promise of fertlizer can buy votes. Its sad but true

  53. Tukemba “wii wii wii wii, twabawina baba utufumo ngachula wamainsa.”

    Go PACT, Go.
