Mongu pastors donate to mothers’ shelter

Share

The Mongu Pastors Fellowship has donated clothes and food stuffs worth about K3.5 million to the Lewanika General Hospital Mothers’ shelter.

Presenting the donation, Pastors Fellowship Chairperson Reverend Lemmy Sikena said they decided to donate to the mothers ‘shelter because the patients and those who were looking after them were in dire need of assistance.
He said the clothes were donated by different churches affiliated to the Pastors Fellowship such as Campus Crusade for Christ adding that the food stuffs were bought using the K200 000 that was raised during a Thanks Giving service held on Independence day eve.

And speaking earlier, Mongu District Commissioner Jethro Mumbuwa commended the Pastors fellowship for the gesture.
Mr. Mumbuwa said the church was an important partner in the development of the country as it renders support to people in many ways where government falls short.

He said government alone cannot meet all the needs of the people and it was commendable that the church was playing a leading role in uplifting the welfare of people.

And Lewanika General Hospital, Executive Director Dr. Andrew Silumesi said the donation will go a long way in helping the people at the mothers’ shelter. He said looking after the sick was a big responsibility hence they needed help from well wishers.

  1. Great. Look after our mothers wherever they are. As for Lewanika General, that’s where I was born, folks. I hope they have an ambulance there. And please, Rupiah, donate one of your thousand cars as an ambulance to Livingstone General and others that don’t have any.

  2. It was just yesterday when i made a comment on the first lady’s donation to Pateuka. I mentioned that it was sad to see pastors inviting cameras whenever they made a donation and barely 24hours after, here we are reading about pastors calling cameras to publicize their donation. I don’t see why a church pastor, holding a bible that states ‘let not your right hand know what your left hand is doing’ would make a donation publicly. What is their intention, to get the public’s support? K3.5M is nothing and you pastors should be ashamed of making a donation public, you are acting like the pharisees in the bible always trying to show off. Don’t expect a reward from God for this because we the people have rewarded you already, thats according to the bible.

  3. #4. They wanted a reward and they got it and so you should not complain. I do agree with you re giving but you should realise that the pastors are human like us and make errors but some have their own agendas and not God’s. Whatever help they have given, K3.5m or less it is still help and whoever received that I am sure it made a difference for them. Temporarily or permanently a difference or help was made.

  4. #5 3.5 million is little and i know that helping someone has no threshold value, anything can go a long way. and believe me i support any kind of donation whether its just moral support. But the point am trying to put across is that pastors shouldn’t act like politicians. We always talk about how politics and religious should have a boundary but we are the first one to condone politicized religion. Politicians donate publicly to gain voter support, nothing else. Now someone tell me why a pastor would donate publicly, what is he trying to achieve? Remember religion is about unity politics will never (no matter how much we wish for it to be) be about unity, not even in the western world.

  5. #7. I agree with you that if someone, in this case pastors, professes to be a believer in Christ then they should do as Christ says as he commanded that us to do. I also agree with you re polticising donations. Like Christ said in Matthew 6:2-3 about giving to be noticed that person has been noticed and he has the reward there and then These pastors got their reward as you and I have observed going by what the scriptures say. Besides, we are required to help the needy anyways and so there is no sense to publicise if we are doing the will of God but to get noticed and once noticed your reward is realised. With regard to religion being unity politics I do not know about other religions but Christianity is about salvation, eternity and a personal relationship with Christ.

I believe you help the poor in your own life…i wonder how often you go about telling everyone how many times you have visited Western Union of later…thats my point, you probably dont! Isn’t that what Christ expects from us?! Yes, once help is given, its sure apprepricated BUT we need to keep down…and not go shouting out to the rest of Zed that we are the chosen few that are helping…do i really stand to be corrected?

  7. Whether or not they they attracted cameras or not, what matters is the gesture that they have shown. Its about time even we as youths, tried to build a culture of ubuntu towards out neighbour. It doesn’t even have to be in monetary value. Volunteer at an old age home. Pick on a li’l grade 7 child struggling with school, and help them through their maths. Just a little bit of your time. Its the best thing you can ever do for yourself. Trust me, I know.

  8. These pastors should affliate their temba churches to CHAZ that’s when they’ll know what it means to be called a church. Emulate my church the Catholic, UCZ, Salvation Army, SDA, Baptist, Reformed, CMML, Brethren in Christ, Anglican and Church of Christ. Not New apostolic, chitawala and other tutemba churches.

  9. Kwena mulalanda, do you realise that all that was given was donated and hence if it was done secretly the same people will complain about the whereabouts of the donations. I concur with # 12 even in the publicity some dont expect anything in return. God bless that Pastor’s fellowship!
