President Rupiah Banda has urged the Solwezi electorate to vote for the ruling MMD candidate Albert Chifita, in the Solwezi Central constituency by-elections on November 18 , next week.

President Banda said  in Solwezi at a public rally at Kimasala Basic School ground to drum up support for the MMD candidate Mr Chifita.

He appealed to the Solwezi residents who turned up in numbers for the rally to give Mr Chifita a chance to continue with the work left by the late member of parliament Ben Tetamashimba.

“I want Mr Chifita to join our MMD team, please give him to me so that we can continue with the work our late brother left.” He said.

The seat fell vacant owing to the  death of the  Member of Parliament Ben Tetamashimba, recently.

The PF/UPND pact is fielding Watson Lumba, Forum for Democratic Alternative (FDA) is fielding Muhammed Kalela while Thomas Kafula will stand as an independent candidate.

President Banda has further assured the people of Solwezi that the contentious road that goes to Chavuma would be completed.

He also charged that the opposition PF leader Michael Sata who has been criticizing his government that they are not working, was in government before and for a long time but did not do anything for the people.

And former PF Secretary General, Edward Mumbi charged that PF leader Sata was a pathological liar who should not be trusted.

Mr Mumbi said that those who know him like himself know that he could not be trusted because of his lies.

“Sata is a pathological liar, those who don’t know him, do not know this. The man cannot be trusted.”He said.

He said that he resigned from the PF because of Mr Sata’s undemocratic tendencies and the opposition leader’s lack of respect for others.

  1. The MMD is surely winning this seat. We however thank the opposition for filing in their nominations as this will improve the democracy the nation has enjoyed ever since the MMD won the1991 elections. Even though the opposition will lose, we thank them for their contribution to democracy.

  2. Well #1 you are right the opposition has lost it..But its good to thank them for their contribution to Democracy…Walya Waitonaisha..

  3. Indeed its 50-50, a real test for the pact, not kasama, kaili kassy was already our strong hold. UPND mwapya…show urselves. Sata nice of you to come help the young one in Solwezi, or did the young one also go to Kassy, I didnt see you in kassy little one!

  4. #4, Bembas are tribal if you may know and Bembas hate Tongas. The battle in Kasama was for Bembas and the young one’s presence in Kasama would have decampaigned GBM. The young young was competently advised not to go t Kasama.

  5. #4, Bembas are tribal if you may know and Bembas hate Tongas. The battle in Kasama was for Bembas and the young one’s presence in Kasama would have decampaigned GBM. The young one was competently advised not to go to Kasama.

  6. #6 I see, but dont you think that Sata in solwezi will cost the pact a seat. Sata isnulted those people badly, atti they are foreigners from Angola. So couldnt that be dangerous for the little one, coz little one needs this win badly so as to prove himself a worthy candidate for the pact president.

  7. #8 You are right on Sata. But lets wait and see. I believe by now North Westerners have forgotten Sata’s remarks or have forgiven him. I also believe the late Benny Tetamashimba (R.I.P) being a Political Strategist that he was was an influencing factor in people voting for the MMD. These people are very easily sold on anything Tonga and wthout Teta, tides are likely to change. this time around. MMD is defending the seat while the pact are trying to grab it. Lets wait and see. #7 no need for such language dear. Search voting patterns in the past. When have Bembas ever voted for a Tonga?

  8. I do not think the MMD will win in Solwezi The results are more likely to as follows MMD 35%
UPND – PF PACT 61% Others 4% the people were just following Mwanawasa and now people have seen what is there in Solwezi (1) no clean water, (2) no jobs, (3) no proper special humburger, (4) poor bread and poorest road network , that is the kind of developement which is there and also poor salaries from kansanshi mines .

  9. I really feel sorry for Mumbi. He has really sunk rock bottom and he is shamelessly being paraded by MMD not because of his qualities but as a tool to demonise Sata as a person.I have yet to hear him say PF has bad policies. It is all about Sata whom he obviously differed with.

  10. Are you sure MMd will carry the day? Ofcourse a win for them will save them from further embarassment. But should the opposite happen, that’s the end of MMD. we will just hire trucks to prepare them a special dumping site at chingwere come 2011. Surely MMD needs this seat at all cost.
