President Rupiah Banda was today among hundreds of mourners who gathered at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross to attend the church service for the late Former Zambia Army Commander Geojago Musengule’s son Major Joe Musengule.
Several cabinet ministers, senior government officials, service chiefs and members of the diplomatic corps joined the President at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross to pay their last respects to Major Musengule.
Major Musengule, who is the third of Lt Gen Geojago and Mrs Muriel Musengule’s four children, passed away on November 19 after suffering a heart attack.
His death is believed to have been triggered by the death of his wife of eight years, Halodatte Musengule who died on November 14 at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) after an illness.
Major Musengule who will be put to rest at Mutumbi Cemetary, leaves behind a son and two daughters.
And reading out Maj Musengule’s life history, family representative Joyce Makulu disclosed that the deceased joined the Zambia army in 1994 as an officer cadet shortly after completing his secondary education at Kabwe Secondary School.
Mrs Makulu said before that Maj Musengule did his grade one to three in Yugoslavia before returning home where he completed his primary education in Kabwe.

Lotus tamumfwa guys. Thats funny
“His death is believed to have been triggered by the death of his wife of eight years, Halodatte Musengule who died on November 14 at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) after an illness” awe kwena that is love if this assumption holds any water to even have an heart attack.M.H.S.R.I.P
#4 the musengules are related to late RB’s wife Mrs Hope Makulu Banda.
As for the entire cabinet attending funeral, they have no work just loafing and waiting for trips, infact where ever RB goes the follow.
Kwena Lotus, thats a good one!Â
Too bad for the Musengule family. First the General is sentenced to prison, now funerals. Â But this Major Joe person dying like that, I am touched! Â Very few Zambian men love their wives half as much!! Â
There is reliable big rumour that, he took his own life when his wife died. If he died of heart attack, then he was unfit medically.. The man could have commited suicide.. we need the trueth

# 11. What business is it to you to want the truth? its heart attack you’ve read….this is a breveament not politics.
#14 Jona, you have made my day. It’s gratifying to see Zambians who think like that.
Too much of anything is bad and love is no exception.Umunensu alitemwisha sana
JJ, May his sould rest in peace. One of the good guys I have ever met.
#14,A Military personnel or officer who commits suicide does not deserve a military honour/Funeral..that is is in the law for the military..I guess that is not politics but the law till you change it by politics…Logic does not seem to hold here
JJ, May his soul rest in peace. One of the best guys to have lived. Go well my bro.
Is there any substance in informing us that he attended grade ` – 3 in Yugoslavia before returning to Zambia to complete primary school? I cant imagine taking a more possibly shallow angle to this news article than this!! Was there no other news worth information to share from the Majors life or his service in the army? Even if this information was shared at the funeral it did not warrant to be published as is way too trivial for one who rose to the ranks of a Major……unless the title was dubiously conferred on him. LT and your sources can you please be serious with your journalism!!
Mwenya @ #20, My sentiments exactly! You have to wonder what kind of journalistic credentials those who write for LT possess, seriously! I mean , besides the fact that they just lift things from ZANIS, Times, ZNBC and the Mail, complete with gramatical and typing mistakes!! It’s a shame!
# 1 sunvela iwe!
#5 RB attended coz he is a family member. Mind you the mothert ot late Joe is a blood relation of the Makulu family. And RB’s late wife mother to Henry, Nenani and Dingani. As for the cabinet ministers attending the funeral, here is nothing wrong, the young man was a son to a former Army Commander and he died while serving the nation. He was in Yugoslavia where his father served as a military attache and Kabwe when his father was Commandant at MILTEZ before moving to Army HQ. He was a good officer and parent MHRIP.
Farewell my dear friend and brother-in-arms. Till we meet again.
I send my heart felt condolences to the Musengule family and the officer corp of the zamba army for the loss of a great and a humble gentel man in Major Jo Musengule , you inspired alot of people young and old in a lot of activities which included basketbal, range work the officer you just handled in the previous course and lasly the you commanded in the second battalion will greatly miss you. till we meet again, rest in eternal peace
I guess when you dont know someone its easy to drum up a joke or two when that person dies but when it is someone you know and respect I doubt you would even have an ounce of humour in your system. JJ was a good person who achieved what most men his age only dream of. For those of us from Kabwe who knew him we say may his soul rest in peace, the nation has lost another outstanding person.
Its the sadest news Ive heard. Its unbelievable and incomphrehesible that such a tragedy could occur. Waren Ive just heard and spoken to the elder brother. JJ was such a gentle, softspoken and loving guy. First time Ive ever logged onto this webpage and to find so called Zambians making jokes. it hurts. my words for them will come later. Thanks the Kabwe blockes. We split up from school when they came from the jocked about Yugoslavia. Thankyou for the information. Some of us are still out in the registered daispora with country and we are registered monthly donors for the redcross, united nations and worldvision to feed the jockers poor relatives and pay for ther deportation fares. See u in December Waren. My leave starts 14th
27 Chanda K. I hear you and thats why all the best bloggers on this sight have left or can only read without making a comment. JJ does not derserve this riducule.

My condolence to Musengule family and relatives… May God be with you in this dificult moment.
Jo was a down to earth guy and a great basketball player it was other people who tried to call or refer to him as the ‘generals’ son but he always introduced himself as just Joe….MHSRIP
