More linked to Kapoko scam

MORE workers at the Ministry of Health will soon be arrested following the discovery of more people linked to the alleged plunder of K27 billion, Secretary to the Cabinet Joshua Kanganja has said.

More employees and non-employees mentioned in the latest report on the matter will face the law after concluding investigations.

Dr Kanganja said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that he had received the report on the investigations in to the case and it had indicated that more people other than the ones already arrested were involved in the case.

He said the report also revealed that people from outside the Ministry of Health were also involved in the case.

“The report on the Ministry of Health corruption story shows that there were more people involved than those who were initially arrested, right now, investigations are being done to establish who was involved and from where,” he said.

He added that there were still more suspects from the ministry who had to be questioned on the case and only then would there be a more comprehensive statement on the matter.

Dr Kanganja said the exact number of people who would be arrested was not yet known as investigations into the new findings had just been launched.

He said the media would publish the result as soon as it was known and that, he would continue offering updates on the progress of the matter.

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) discovered a scandal six months ago at the Ministry of Health in which initially K10 billion was discovered to have been misused but further audit by the Auditor General’s office revealed that a total amount was about K27 billion.

Ministry of Health human resources officer Henry Kapoko is at the centre of the case.
Meanwhile, Dr Kanganja has said investigations into the Ministry of Education accountant who is alleged to have misappropriated funds for the ministry had reached an advanced stage.

He said the officer was suspended to pave way for investigations and would be formally charged as soon as the truth was established.

“Investigation in the Ministry of Education issue is progressing well and we will soon find out how the money went missing,” he said.

  1. This is becoming boring, another investigation has just been launched??? Put Kapoko on a fast track court, convict him, recover the stolen money as you are continuing with other investigations. we are not getting any more excited upon hearing this news of scandals without convictions. we need convictions, recovery, long term jail sentences for the convicted period.

  2. why alarming them before arresting them? thats why they destroy the documentation. Woke up Dr Kanganja. Let them be arrested and then you can publicize. Your publication is not worth it when you don’t even know who is involved and how many. It means you publicized this cause of pressure from the public. Shame on you. This is what i call incompetence.

  3. #3 is right, why alert them of the impending arrest? please stop telling us what you want to do but do it and then tell us???

  4. By the way BBC reports that the Malawian President has cancelled hisl Over seas trips in order to save Malawi’s foreign exchange. This includes the C/Wealth that is being held in the Caribians. Tell our flying dutchman that its not good to spend our meagre resources as he does.

  5. Problem is the arrests are selective! Simon Miti wrote a letter to RBB and he is a free man. Maureen Mwanawasa was linked to this scandal, her name never comes up.

Worse still Chiluba was acquitted. Regina jumped bail and is on holiday far far away!!!

  6. I don’t believe Kapoko is at the centre of this scam. There are bigger fish involved but the Police, ACC, the likes of Kanganja and the courts are afraid to bring them to book. Zed nonsense at its best!

  7. #2 I agree with you these cases are taking toooooo long. We know that corruption cases are “complicated” if they involve “big men” but this case must be straight forward unless evidence has been tempered with. The headlines I long for are “Kapoko jailed for 20 years” , ” Chiluba gets life imprisonment”. Long prison terms rare the only deterent for such scum bags. Not ka three or five years…..

  8. does not make sense at all, unless they are trying to alert the suspects to destroy whatever evidence exists. what does the whole secretary to the cabinet have to do with this case, do the investigative and prosecuting wings have to get authority from him before acting? 6 months is to long for a case to still be not moving.

  9. #17, what’s wrong with my name? Anyway, I can understand your level of thinking just from your name. it says it all.

  10. Ba Chinena, Virginia. Don’t you honestly think your canal, filthy, disturbed, warped, diabolical, despicable, barbaric, ghastly mind can come up with a sane name?
    Whatever makes you smile………….

  11. This will not go anywhere. We know it! Corruption fight died with Papa Levy. There is no corruption fight to talk about in Zambia. The current leadership is corrupt itself. Rupiah’s government cannot convince anyone that they can fight corruption. Evidence is there to show; Chiluba’s fraudent acquital!
    GOD HELP ZAMBIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Leave them alone. Our president has said it`s expensive to fight crime/corruption. How much are we going to recover from this other than waste more money? Just leave them alone. I have never known Zambians to s teal. It`s reason why Chiluba is a free man.

  13. A year from now these guys will still be telling us “investigations have just been launched!” How many times are they going to launch investigations that yields nothing!!!!!!

  14. # 10 &12, What you have said are the FACTS, why are they trying to hide behind Kapoko when the big fish, the master minds responsible for all this are untouched?

    # 17, 19 &20, Please, please stop and avoid trading insults. We are all concerned about how our beloved country is being destroyed by these selfish leaders and we need to express our views objectively and not having a go at each other in this way.
