Vice President George Kunda has directed the Ministers of Finance, Local Government, Home Affairs and Community Development to conduct an aerial view of the floods in Lusaka district in order for them to appreciate the extent of problem in the province.

Mr. Kunda told ZANIS in an interview that doing so will make the ministers understand the complexity of the situation and move them to work out measures to promptly address the problem.

He said government was committed to address the floods head on hence it has developed new measures to counter the situation not only in Lusaka but countrywide.

He explained that when President Rupiah Banda was Vice President, he developed several structures in a bid to mitigate the flood situation in the country.

Mr. Kunda, who had an aerial vie of floods in Lusaka yesterday, said the country has structures that would help government to effectively address the floods.

He said government will remain focused in addressing the floods so as to prevent loss of life and outbreaks of water borne diseases.

Since the onset of the current rain season, floods are said to have claimed six lives in Lusaka while some schools and houses have been submerged in water.

Three of the deaths were recorded in Ng’ombe compound while the other three occurred in Mandevu compound.

Government, through the Lusaka District Disaster Management Team has since mobilized equipment to pump out the water in affected areas.

  1. Is that really necessary. A total waste of public funds. Why don’t they take there GX’s they got from being an MP and see the floods up close rather than from afar. Are they scare they maybe attached?

  2. Is that really necessary. A total waste of public funds. Why don’t they take the GX’s they got for being an MP and see the floods up close rather than from afar. And also see how people are suffering? Are they scare they maybe attached?

  3. Morning Proudzambian
Actually its just a waste of resources, the VP took an aerial view of the situation,he saw it first hand, isnt he just supposed to summon these ministers and tell them what he saw and find a solution, what difference is it going to make for these ministers just to have an aerial jolly ride at the expense of tax payers, this is the ineptitude kyambalesa talked about ystday

  4. KUNDA IS ONE MAN I REALLY HAVE FAILED TO UNDERSTAND.THAT’S ALL I CAN SAY….OPPOSITION PARTY LEADERS ARE ACTUALLY GOING TO GROUND ZERO, TO SEE THE EXTENT OF THE PROBLEM, WHILE OUR RULING LEADERS SIT BACK AND WONDER WHAT TO DO…WOW.

  5. This man really has no brains how will that help what is needed is to build a canal and redirect the water to some dam which can be used for agricultural purposes.

  6. Well well this man really has no brains how will that help what is needed is to build a canal and redirect the water to some dam which can be used for agricultural purposes.

  7. The man is dull and totally inept. What will an aerial survey entail. Do they go with GPS’s to pin point the flooded areas? How will they tell from an aerial snap shot? He’s totally scared, weeweeing in his pants to see first hand. Take a walk, no need for GX’s. How will you know the depth of the water from an aerial snap survey? Kunda, you strike me as a very dull Veep and character!

  8. Just send pipo to start working on the drainage, we are not interested in seeing your ugly faces which will stress us more.
We need a solution not talking plse

  9. Kunda if you had any sense, youwould have taken aerial shots when you undertook the flight, but obviously being so dull & not realising how much it costs for a simple duplicated jolly ride, here you go again waffling infront of the press just to inform us that you overflew Lusaka, & yes still sat on your backside advising your fellow ministers to do the same! Notice he hasn’t reprimanded them, or shown displeasure or anger towards them – THIS IS RB’s WORKING GOVT – still yearning to go for another term of office. How much does it cost to arm the numerous unemployed with picks & shovels to dig drainage ditches???? Not much really, solves some of the unemployment & widens the TAXBASE – Hey , all this is ROCKET SCIENCE!!

  10. The buck stops at RB he’s failing to put a leash on his vice president because for example i have never worked with Kunda before but i highly doubt his decision making. He’s coming out as a very extravagant gentleman leading very very poor people. Within a month he’s proposed obscene perks for his friends, he’s gone campaigning everywhere even when elections are 20 months away leaving people dying because of floods, he comes back from campaigns he straight away jumps on the chopper to have the so called aerial view of what is only best known to himself. After all that we’ve been wondering what else could go wrong with our Veep, as if we just jinxed ourselves, vuala ! he’s now sending his friends on sight seeing. Dear o dear !
