RB woos Chinese tourists

President Rupiah Banda with China's deputy minister of Foreign Affairs ,Zhai Jun at Beijing Airport in china

PRESIDENT Rupiah Banda yesterday held talks with the governor of the Chinese province of Guangdong, where the two leaders discussed issues concerning cooperation in trade, mining and tourism.

The president, who arrived in Guangdong Province of China around 17:10 hours local time, told the governor, Huang Huahua and his delegation that Zambia intended to attract more tourists from China.

Special assistant to the president for Press and public relations, Dickson Jere said in a statement yesterday that Mr Banda wanted Chinese tourists to consider Zambia as one of the priority tourist destinations in the world.

In response, Mr Huang assured the president and his delegation that China would do everything possible to help market Zambia’s tourism to the Chinese people.

And the Chinese government in Guangdong Province said trade between Zambians and the Chinese in the region has drastically improved in recent years.

Many Zambian traders source their products from Guangdong Province of China.

The governor said he would like to see more cooperation between Zambia and his province in areas of mining and tourism.

He said Zambia offered a great opportunity to many foreign investors who wished to invest in Africa.

President Banda is today expected to tour Lianzhog Stainless Steel Corporation in Guangdong before proceeding to Shenzhen City on his last stop of his State visit to China.

While in Shenzhen, the president and his delegation will tour ZTE Corporation and Huawei Technologies Limited, which also have offices in Zambia.

More than 40 million tourists leave China to visit various tourism sites in the world annually.

  1. What is this man doing spend almost 2 week in China? This guy needs to go period.

  2. While we need some tourists, we need more GOOD inversters. Ones who will respect our people. Pay them decent wages. Provide good and safe work envirolments. Respect Labor laws. Set their plant and machinary in Zambia and not import finished good. IF RB can do this, he MAY get 1 vote. Do you see him doing this?

  3. No 3 we have no labour laws in Zambia that why our are always poor, they have nothing to protect them

  4. If he can only lead by example by touring his own country first before touring theirs:)>-

  5. I think we have enough Chinese in Zambia because if we are careful they will be more than the local population.Just when is the marathon coming to an end?:-?:-?:-?:-?:-?

  6. We need real investment not people that will be busy setting up chinese restaurants and selling chickens….
How long does it take to woo the chinese anyway, the “soya chunk” has been gone a while now. Does he know people are dying as a result of floods back home??

  7. Yes only if they are not tuntemba investors. We have too many bakeries in the country already.
A matter of concern though, how many times are zambian politicians in govt going to announce that they have wooed chineese investors. Its just a couple of months away when we saw Felix Mutati and entourage in china wooing these same ma choncholis. Are they taking turns wooing and wooing? Is it a wooings govt? Guys are you serious with your wooing? You can only woo once. What’s the purpose of former VP Mwape in china or are you guys busy wasting Tax Payers’ hard earned cash. Wooing wooing wooing and wooing.
Are you chaps making deals for yourselves? What we will hear next time is that you’re ordering more hearses and mobile hospitals. Or are you just tourists?:-w

  8. One will end making a sound like,:o Wooooooooooooooooooooooo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!! Wooooooooooooooooooooooo !!!! This sounds familiar. probably in the night when are sleeping. Some living creature makes some Wooooooooooooooooooooooo sound.=))=)):)):))=))=)):d

Wooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!! Wooooooooooooooooooooooo !!!! This sounds familiar. probably in the night when we are sleeping. Some living creature makes some Wooooooooooooooooooooooo sound.=))=)):)):))=))=)):d

  10. BRIC-BRAZIL,RUSSIA,INDIA and CHINA, take your pick, these are the emerging super power houses when it comes to economic boom, pick any one of these countries and you will never go wrong, only problem is that our leaders dont do their negotiations properly, they dont put the well being of their citizens at the forefront of any deal, only thing they think of is how they can benefit individually, yes we are desperate for investment and development, but what is development if it comes at the cost of the owners of the land

  11. It really takes two to be corrupt – the corruptor and the corrupted and in this case we are being corrupted from both ends, the chinese are corrupting our resources and our leaders are corrupting us,all because of the greediness of people who yield power, the same chinese investors are in Angola, but look at what they are doing there, very good, unlike here, they are in soweto market, backstreet shops, katondo, just abt anywhere, what are people like Felix Mutati doing sure, these are the brains behind MMD.GOD BLESS Zambia, one day, just one Day,we will rise above this Evil called MMD

  12. Police had to exhume the body on Monday for fresh burial, which took place later in the day.
Mwinilunga District Commissioner, Webster Samakesa and police confirmed the development to The Post in Solwezi.

Earlier, relatives and friends of the late official were treated to a shock when they found their deceased’s body missing from the mortuary and later he was reported to have been buried the previous Friday by another funeral entourage.

The mix-up happened when the named late officer was mistaken for another man who is said to have died on his way to visit relatives there from Copperbelt on Thursday.

The latter man’s relatives sent a boy to receive him but reported back that he had died on the bus.
Apparently, his relatives had not seen him for some time and did not know…

  13. Check #15 Some of you are like the situation above.most of just criticise, some of you don t even remember when you were last in Zambia. Take time to see things for yourself. If your relatives are suffering because you have opted to adjust to a life sytle which is not your own, how does that become MMD s problem. Sort yourself out. You can t have it both ways. We have people now even in rural areas with nice cars and doing quite well and there you are complaining about your Country and Govt.

  14. BREAKING NEWS! Archbishop Mpundu has a press conference and he has attacked Chiluba and Shikapwasha mercilessly and he says there is no marriage between Sata and his sister. He has also said no amount of intimidation and bullying will stop Catholics-they are unstoppable!

  15. Good Afternoon

Huang Huahua – sounds like a burst of laughter.

Now to the lecture at hand: wooing tourists is OK but a good tourism industry is the prerequisite for that. A good infrastructure, a fair econimic environment and government policies which inspire the citizens of the host country with job satisfaction and service delivery is needed. Do we have that?

I think the president better ensure that these things are put in place first before tourists end up leaving our country frustrated. 😮

  16. Your true character is what you say and do when you know you are not being watched.

  17. ah ah! This man is still in China? Bizarre!
He has definitely overstayed his welcome that side, a presidential visit must not exceed 4 days at the most, especially with an entourage as collosal as he went with. I hope we do get wind of how much of our tax has been used thereof, & whether the ‘state visit’ translates into anything meaningful.
Otherwise, I really don’t understand how a head of state woos tourists… what role does our embassy in China (and elsewhere) play except organising ‘send-off’ parties?

  18. Tuntemba business is only supposed to be runined by zambians only period, even big companies formed by investors should be allowed only if 40% will involve Zambians. If other African countries have made it clear and the council would not issue the permit unless you’re a citizen to qualify to run it. Selling on the soweto markets, you then call that an investor. Why should will be made to suffer in the country that is yours and subjected to working conditons and wages that are pathetic. Minimum wage should be in accordance with current economical situation. How do you pay people salaries that cannot provide a roof over them, send their children to school and generally pocket money I give to my mum every month.

  19. WHAT IS AMBASSADOR DOING? AND WHAT IS EXACTLY RB’s JOB DESCRIPTION, IF I MAY ASK?

  20. RB has lots of free tax payers money to blow, that is all it is… not Chin Man will ever respect the Black Man. it is time Zambians wake up and start to build their own factories and stop kissing A**

  21. To get respect you have to be a man and beggars get no respect…. RB why don’t you do your job and help to build Zambia up and not selling it out to Chinese… as a matter of fact the only thing that will come of this Wooing is that RB and his sons has located yet another Chinese group to line their pockets. The people of Zambia will not see one Kwacha.
    This man got to GO!

  22. This man does not realize that he is putting the cart before the horse, Wooing tourist? Where are the roads, the security, and the cultural organizations to showcase Zambia? Fool stay at home and build your country before you invite people to visit…. your people are hungry and jobless, your government is ineffective. Corruption in your Government is worst that any other administration in the history of the country. RB you need to clean your house before you invite people to visit, because it is good manners. This man is really a poor excuse for a leader.

  23. how much money are you begging? How much money did you spend on other tourists who accompaned you i.e e-tickets / food / accomodation / allowances and ofcourse shoping I dont think they can just come back empty handed. Y cant u use this money on the Stunami disaster in LSK

  24. You are hereby invited to attend a meeting at the Zambia High Commission on Friday, 12 March 2010 starting from 1800 – 2030. The meeting is to enlighten fellow Zambians here in the UK about the Citizen Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC) which has been created by the Government of Zambia to enable it provide funds for Zambians to run businesses. The Chief Executive of CEEC, Ms Mable Mung’omba will lead the discussions.

  25. the Chinese come with noddles and stay at Chinese center when they come to Zambia, what forex do they bring.Politicians have really taken us for granted, they think we are fools to talk to and tell lies like we are retards. Once day you will see,if we meet in Hell,we will be pushing you towards hotter sides,if heaven,,,,no that just can’t be,coz the devil won’t be there, and u surely know who your partner is
