Zambia to receive climate change funds

World bank country manager KAPIL KAPOOR says Zambia and Nepal will benefit from the funds which are meant for climate change programmes and policy implementation.

Dr KAPOOR said once fully implemented and sucessful Zambia will be eligible to access about 60 million united states dollars to be used for climate change implementation programmes.

Dr KAPOOR said during the launch of the country’s water resources assistance strategic plan in Lusaka today that Zambia and Nepal were the first two countries to qualify for the funds and were selected by World Bank and other donors.

He said Zambia has about 45 percent water resources which are not fully utilised for economic development.

Dr KAPOOR said the available water resources can carter for the growth of the hydro water generation of electricity to su[pply about six thousand mega watts of power.

And Energy minister KENNETH KONGA said the countries available water resources can be used to accelerate economic growth through irrigation, water transport, health and tourism.

Mr KONGA said the one thousand eight hundred mega watts hydro power supply can be increased with support from donors and the business community.

  1. Oh , did I miss something? When did they change the name of MMD 2011 Campaign Funds to Climate Change Funds? Somebody update me, please.

  2. I suppose this benefit will quicken economic activity in Zambia. Let us put this money for the purpose of mitigating climate decay effects that we are experiencing now. Most importantly, with the descovery of uranium in the NorthWest we need to put in safeguards now that we do not have disasters that were experienced in Soviet Union, Union Kabite(1984 in India) and many other places where dangerous materials are mined. May be the World Bank is not telling it all but I think we make hay while the sun shines.

  3. There is no evidence to support the view that climate change is caused by humans. On the contrary, increased in global warming will be of greater beneficial.
    Climate change is a hoax.:-?:-?

  4. Spot on #3. There are more reasons to doubt the theory of a destructive climate change than there are to support it. The funny thing about it is that African governments are even unwillingly agreeing to changes in which they do not believe simply because of access to funds.

Ask yourself this: if African scientists or traditional healers had to warn the world about the social hazards and negative effects of certain (sub) human practises (e.g. man-to-man marriages) would the rich nations take them seriously and set everything in motion to stop these practises?:-?

  5. CAN’T YOU WAIT AND GIVE ZAMBIA THAT MONEY AFTER THE 2011 ELECTIONS? COS THAT MONEY IS DEFINITELY GOING TO CAMPAIGNS

  6. An order came just before I was expecting it that’s always a good thing. The deal was simply suitable as well as the method terrific. Needed some getting used to the brown leafy graphic but total I’m thrilled. Edan Aharony.
