Emelio Mbozi was presented with “The Principal’s Award for Dedication to Learning and Self Improvement” at the college’s annual prize-giving ceremony.
The 32-year-old has just completed a two-year National Diploma in Agriculture at the land-based Dorset campus and has returned home to Zambia for the first time since starting his studies.
“We have a range of prizes for our best students every year, but there wasn’t one that applied to Emelio under the current categories,” said Tim Stephens, head of agriculture, countryside and food at the college.
“But we felt his special qualities should be recognised so we created an award for him, and Novartis Animal Health kindly sponsored it.”
Emelio, who works as a government regional veterinary assistant in his home country, said at the ceremony he was looking forward to seeing his family again and hopes now to be promoted to livestock officer.
He travels between farms in southern Zambia administering vaccinations to cattle.
“I feel very honoured to get this award,” he said. “When I first arrived in the UK I thought it cold and the food strange.
“But I will miss Dorset and the friends I made here.”
Mr Stephens said: “Emelio impressed us because he came to an obviously very alien country to study in a foreign language, and took it all in his stride.
“He has been an inspiration to us and his fellow students.”
More than 115 further education students received awards at this year’s prize-giving ceremony.

Congratulations Mr. Mbozi for all your hard work and dedication.
This is ecnouraging,congrats Mr mbozi
Well man, these are the kind of qualities zambians should be known for abroad not those of that rapist we read the other time. You will surely be promoted….congrats once more!

¨Congrats man ! We need that, bazakazima bwanji @ ma Zambians nizi.
Yes which foreign language ? Thot Uk nichizungu just like in Zed.
Mwabeleka badaala.
Nine Chale where are you?
Congrats Tonga Bull…………………….:d
These Tonga fellow are too intelligent especially when it comes to animal husbandly and agriculture. Anyway congrats, you Tongas are so serious with whatever you are doing in life. I was with one Tonga guy at CBU, we graduated the same year in the same field but if I look at how rich he is today, I fail to understand his nature. One zambia one nation, the bottom line is you are zambian and some zambians are known for hard work. In 2007 to 208 the best marketer for pan Africa the whole sub-sahara Africa was a zambian in the name of Hamukale, what an achievement for the country. This man also came out to be the most honest youth because of the way he managed donor money for the projects he was managing.
Sorry, but I kind of find this patronising.
Well Done Mbozi!!

l find this really puzzling- he didnt qualify under any category! What categories are those. He must have or couldnt you just stomach the idea of a black guy being recognised above the other guys presumably white guys so you create a meaningless award to shield your racism and prejudice.Really patronising!!
I would lke to say congratulations, but…… the fact that 115 students where awarded and that prior to this there was no category under which he would fall makes me wonder. No doubt he worked hard, excelled and needs to be congratulated but I find myself agreeing with #12
Bamwana bwana balitumpa. To them, if you indicate that English is not your first language, then it is a foreign language to you.
AFTER WEEKS OF SHAME DUE TO TUMBWE’S BEHAVIOUR AT LEAST MBOZI HAS DONE US PROUD.
#6
English is a foreign language mwebantu pleaseee. I have lived in UK for sometime now but i still consider it very foreign to me. I suppose what the gentleman was trying to say is dispite his English being basic(like most of us except those brought up in England) he’s still managed to achieve blah blah blah….. . You can study the dictionary all you want like our brother Senior Citizen or FTJ but its still foreign full stop.
Now we got to do it the Zambian way. Let’s organize a red carpet celebration for this young man. As a way of motivating other students in the country, I suggest that the NRDC principal takes cares of it on campus. Cost should not be problem for a small ceremony. I am sure individuals and businesses will be willing to donate towards an event such as this one.
Congrats mbozi but that’s a funny award. Anyway it’s better than Tumbwe’s nonsense.
Patronizing for sure but its a good report and the man needs to be congratulated.
1. will it surprise bloggers to learn that in many cases, the English actually do not know much of their own language.
2. congrats ba daala, but seeing where you come from mwaishukila badaala heh heh heh.
Surely is this news worthy…..Zambians all over the world get recognised for their various contributions a very single day. I hope CNN will cover the award I have especially created for my American PA for her hardwork and dedication….!!!
Iwe chi Mbozi, kusanga ka job kabili, animal husbandry kwisa? Are you already in Z?
Excellent Madala you deserve every credit.
Kwena eee. Does English qualify as a foreign language for a Zambian?
Congretulations badaala. And Comment 10, that best Pan Africa Marketer in the name of Edify Hamukale is now Dr. Edify Hamukale (PhD). He’s truly hardworking, humble and honest which most southerners are.
Kudos! Push for further studies while yr mind is still fresh as well as yr achievements being fresh in the minds of the movers and shakers. “Strike the hammer while the iron is hot.” The sky is the limits!
Chomba just to correct you.
Dr. Edify Hamukale’s natural talent is in mathematics, physics, chemistry and anything quantitative. It is just that the man is multitalented for him to outshine his colleagues in marketing who studied business degrees. During our school days everyone was fighting for the second position in mathematics and sciences because the first position was perpetually for Edify. He didn’t talk during lessons nor even asked questions. Most teachers only knew him after an exam or test as they looked around for the number one who wasn’t even active in class. he was however a notorious noise maker if there were no teachers in class. He led school strikes at one time and was almost suspended but . Anyway the guy is a born leader, courageous, practical and quiet tolerant and…
