PF behaviour nauseats UPND

Share

FLASHBACK: A female youth member of the UPND tries to give flowers to Hichilema at Lusaka international airport

THE United Party for National Development (UPND) on the Copperbelt has accused its pact partners, the Patriotic Front (PF) of behaving like it was more superior than UPND.

Copperbelt UPND provincial chairperson has also said the PF has blown the emergency Kitwe meeting recently chaired by party’s vice-president Richard Kapita, out of proportion.

Mr Matambo said yesterday the UPND in the province was disappointed with the behaviour by the PF and urged their pact partners to respect the UPND as it was equally strong on the Copperbelt.

Mr Matambo was disappointed with Nkana Member of Parliament (MP) Mwenya Musenge for thinking the PF was more superior than the UPND on the Copperbelt and demanded that the PF should respect his party because they needed them in the pact.

Mr Matambo was reacting to Mr Musenge’s condemnation of the meeting held at Kitwe Little Theatre on Friday last week where it was alleged that the UPND had resolved to back President Rupiah Banda if its party president Hakainde Hichilema was not picked as the pact’s presidential candidate.

“The PF should realise the meeting was purely a UPND meeting. PF has been having its own meetings without UPND members attending and we have not been complaining. We now wonder why they should be jittery whenever we hold our meetings,” Mr Matambo said.

[pullquote]“The PF should realise the meeting was purely a UPND meeting. PF has been having its own meetings without UPND members attending and we have not been complaining. We now wonder why they should be jittery whenever we hold our meetings,” Mr Matambo said.[/pullquote]

He said people and Zambians in general, should know that the UPND and the PF were two different political parties with each one working hard to reorganise itself.

“Mr Musenge should not think it is only the PF which is strong on the Copperbelt. He should realise that the UPND is not a dead party on the Copperbelt, we are equally strong and we demand the respect from PF because we need each other in the pact,” he said.

He said it was, infact, Mr Musenge who was in the forefront of hindering the progress of the pact in the province as he never wanted to organise meetings aimed at promoting common ground for the two parties.

ADD president Charles Milupi said the pact was formed as a result of the realisation by Mr Hichilema that his party had lost popularity and could not win any election.

Mr Milupi said in Lusaka yesterday in an interview that the weaknesses in the pact were long predicted because it was formed without consideration for the sticky issue of policy harmonisation, non-selfish agenda and balancing power among the leaders to secure the long term strength.

Mr Milupi said PF president Michael Sata and Mr Hichilema formed the pact without considering how they would relate policies that would guide education, health and agriculture.

He said before the formation of the pact, the two parties contradicted each other on windfall tax, the National Constitutional Conference but went ahead without much debate on these matters.

The two opposition political parties have offered separate candidates in a ward by-election in Chadiza in contravention of the ideals of the pact that provide that they would not compete against each other in future elections.

  1. times of rupia(zambia) why not report on thieves like chiluba who stole our money? However, as things stand at the moment PF is the strongest political party in this Nation.

  2. Oh oh, they are still fighting. I thought their leadership issued a statement saying nobody should speak on the PACT except the two spokespersons? Losing control of the flock?

Anyway as the saying goes .. If your enemy is about to self-destruct, or implode or explode, get out of the way.

No further comment your honour, I don’t want to be hit by flying shrapnel or flying debris from the explosion.

  3. Read this:
“Mr Matambo was reacting to Mr Musenge’s condemnation of the meeting held at Kitwe Little Theatre on Friday last week where it was alleged that the UPND had resolved to back President Rupiah Banda if its party president Hakainde Hichilema was not picked as the pact’s presidential candidate”.

I have always likened the Pact like the way the USSR imploded. The Soviet Union was cosmetic and yet confusions inside were rife just like the Pact.I pity their supporters for wrongly investing their hopes.

  4. indeed it sucks to be in pf and upnd. both are confused at the rate MMD is delivering now they have to start accussing each other. they will destroy each other much to the benefit of mmd. pf and upnd is oil an water cant mix

  5. #5 Yes my dear, I don’t think we have long to wait. Just make sure you are in the safe zone. This is explosion is going to be a mother of them all. Trust me, you don’t want to be anywhere near.

  6. pf and upnd sucks. what more do you expect from a double headed pakt pulling in different directions. pf and upnd is oil and water cant mix. tonga and bemba are like poles dont attract. waste more of your time fighting we will allow you destroy all thats left of you

  7. For the first time in my life, I was convinced that change is coming to ZAMBIA with the formation of the pact. With the recent developments, I can foresee MMD staying further in power. What a shame to our leaders always selfish. This has got me thinking that whoever comes to power amongst our current leaders will not deliver Zambia, we need someone other than RB,SATA OR HH! Everyone is now started showing their selfish ambition again! Let us learn from KENYA!

  8. Ba LT, ‘More superior than…’ Is this English kwena? Ala mwatusebanya pafula. Put your act together!

  9. Some people enjoy spoiling and not building. UPND just forgive Musenge he all the time has an insecure mind just like Winter Kawimba. They are all the time looking for names to spoil so that they can gain an advantage. I know Musenge very well as a neighbour he can misbehave at times, but he has to bear in mind that he should control his lips because not everyone in society would understand you. I tolerated him so much when he was my neighbour because he is my fellow Bemba anyway I know how we relate to each other at times. Matambo do not be too conservative towards him be soft and accept his insults.

  10. I am not surprised that this reporting is coming from Times of mmd. In as much as there’s some issues to be resolved in the pact, it is not as bad as the anti-PACTs are reporting. At this point in time, the mmd will do everything including paying money to anyone to voice out against the PACT. Mind you they are in power and they have all the state machinery just to try to destroy the PACT. VIVA PACT!!!!!

  11. Well after listerning to SATA i think his said the truth. And the truth is that HH does not have the support which he SATA got in the elections. So his saying since he got more votes let him lead and let HH concede and let SATA lead the PACT. If HH decides to go it alone then he will be selfish.

  12. Well, clearly, MMD is likely to be in Power till jesus christ our good saviour comes!!!!!!!!!!! they are working so need for change.

  13. #15 I totally agree with you, why change when there is no need for change more so that there seems not to be any serious alternative party to challenge the policies of MMD. So far MMD is the only serious party with justifiable policies for Zambia

  14. Its good that those who were being told all this time not to trust Sata have believed that he doesn t meant well for the pact but that he wants nothing but himself in the driving seat-pesidency. On the other hand HH was banking on the new qualification for presidential candidate-Degree clause, and now he suspects that Sata has pulled a qiuck Degree for 2011 hence the current fight-power struggle. Lets all ask MMD to correct a few mistakes and move on, period!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. I think i am now beginning to agree with the bloggers that say HH should break away from the Pact. Chi Sata ni chiwire mudala. When i think about it, did we honestly believe or expect Sata would settle for vice presidency??? Am so disappointed i think this pact is not going anywhere. No leader elected in the pact and the Xmas bells have almost started ringing?? HH must pull out now b4 its too late. In chadiza both parties are fielding their own separate candidates, this is the beginning of the end. nafwulwa mwe.

  16. The biggest problem with the PACT is that PF members (even on this site) believe that UPND is inferior and the only reason why PF has joined forces with this inferior party is simply so that sata can ride on HH’s back to state house. Otherwise PF members including their spokesman Fred Mmembe have very little or no regard at all for HH and UPND; they just want to us HH to unsit the MMD. Mwandi ba UPND dont agree to be used as wheelbarrows to transport a snake to statehouse; if sata and PF think they are superior to UPND let them stand on their own and the closest they will come to reaching state house is kalingalinga. This pact is is built on trying to hoodwink each other

  17. The Truth of the matter is if they go it alone , trust me MMD will win. But unfortunetly we all know SATA wont be led he shall lead the PACT. These guys havent really ironed out their differences. we dont even know what shadow cabinet they will have , we also dont even know who will stand as MPs in 2011. What kind of program will the PACT present to Zambia when they came into power?????we dont know. we can not just go blindly and elect people when we dont know their agenda. So like the guys are saying what change are we voting for? because we dont know what we know is PF is disorganised no list of members we dont even know how they run their Secretariat. We know UPND is part of the NCC and PF is not. And what we have learnt through the times is HH says his the best Candidate…so

  18. It is becoming clear that a majority of UPND members would prefer a pact with MMD than Sata. This is understandable since MMD and UPND have similar ideologies and the share the same political base. The biggest challenge in a UPND/MMD pact is how they would share parliamentary seats. Which party will give way to the other in areas like N/W P., C.P, W.P, CB and Lusaka rural? The presidential issue in this case is not complex since RB has only one term to serve and then he can hand over power to HH.
On the other hand a PF/UPND pact, if worked out properly, would not cause much of a challenge at parliamentary level since their strongholds are mutually exclusive. On the issue of who stands for president on a UPND/PF pact it’s about compromise: one party can be allowed to get a bigger chunk…

  19. PF member predicts MMD’s continued rule

FORMER Kasenengwa member of Parliament, Timothy Nyirenda has insisted that the MMD will remain in power even after 2011 because of the serious leadership crisis in UPND-PF pact.
Mr Nyirenda, who is also a Patriotic Front (PF) member, said in Chipata yesterday that there was a serious leadership crisis in the pact and it would not form government until probably after 2021 elections.
He was commenting on revelations by Mwense PF Member of Parliament, Jacob Chongo that PF and UPND have agreed to dissolve their pact and were only looking for a way to inform their followers.

  20. Mr Nyirenda said that those who believed in the pact of forming a government in next year’s elections should forget because the loose alliance would not manage to resolve its leadership wrangle.
“The issue of leadership in the pact has always been a source of concern because as far as I am concerned Mr Michael Sata and Mr Hakainde Hichilema do not trust each other and I know they have already split,” he said.
He said the current activities in the UPND-PF pact had exposed the two leaders that they could not form a government.

  21. “I know the two opposition political party leaders can cheat people in urban areas to vote for them but not in rural areas because people believe and trust the MMD leadership unlike the urban areas,” Mr Nyirenda said.
Mr Nyirenda said that he was ready to join and support the programmes of the current Government under the leadership of President Rupiah Banda.
Meanwhile, the Constituency Concerned Citizens Forum (CCCF) has cautioned political parties against entering into pacts before holding conventions.

  22. The forum has observed that selfish people generally advocated political pacts without the vision for the country.
CCCF information and publicity chairperson Wilbroad Mutoloka said in a statement in Ndola yesterday political parties should not enter into pacts or alliances before holding conventions.
Mr Mutoloka said it had been observed for a long time that these pacts were only entered into between one leader of a political party and the other, without the full support and knowledge of the general membership.
The trend, Mr Mutoloka said, had deprived many vibrant men and women from competing and vying for various political positions in areas of their choice.
“The historical background of our independence does not all reflect on winning an election based on a pact,” he said.

  23. PF polls weren’t free — Mwamba

PATRIOTIC Front (PF) chairperson for elections, Geoffrey Mwamba has said he nullified the elections of Limaposa and Luangwa wards in Kitwe’s Wusakile Constituency because they were marred with corruption.

Reacting to PF ward officials who were dissatisfied with the nullification of the elections, Mr Mwamba said in an interview on Monday that the elections were not free and fair.

  24. “I decided to nullify the elections because of corruption and the officials complaining were not duly elected,” Mr Mwamba said.

  25. …from #24 of parliamentary allotments while the other fields the presidential candidate. Unfortunately PF and UPND have different ideologies that are likely to cause problems in the future.
On the issue of presidential candidate there are those who think the best option for for Sata to rule now since he is older…when it will also be equally good for Sata to follow the example of Biden, the U.S Vice President and act as a stabilising force in a pact govt.

  26. We are very soon living the pact because Sata had promised to support HH for the presidency as he said he was getting too old and now it is clear that he is behaving typical bemba. We can’t entrust Sata with state machinery as he can be 100 times worse than Rupiah. Sata would be a very brutal president as well. If we don’t settle for another commonly acceptable candidate then we are supporting Rupiah. Period! this means more plunder and raping (or masturbation on top) of our constitution for the next five years.

  27. MMD still dominates politics – FODEP

THE Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) says the MMD has continued to dominate the political scene despite the country being a multi-party democracy.

FODEP communications officer MacDonald Chipenzi said since Zambia peacefully transited from a one-party to a multi-party democracy in 1991, it has continued to enjoy relative peace and has seen a proliferation of political parties.

  28. State to build 100 schools

MINISTER of Education Dora Siliya says Government will construct 100 high schools by 2015 across the country.

Ms Siliya said the initiative is aimed at increasing access to education in line with the Millennium Development Goals.

She said this in Lusaka yesterday during a breakfast meeting hosted by the Zambia Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI) at Pamodzi Hotel.

  29. She said currently, 45 high schools and 4,000 additional classrooms at basic school level are being constructed in various parts of the country.

The minister said at the moment, 264,000 students are enrolled at high schools with 3.4 million at basic school level.

She said Government has continued recruiting teachers every year in a bid to improve staffing levels in schools.

Ms Siliya said over the past four years, more than 20,000 teachers have been deployed to schools across the country.

  30. She said this year, her ministry will procure 125 desks at a cost of K35 billion to cater for the deficit which currently stands at 400.

Ms Siliya said the Ministry of Education will continue imparting business skills to Zambians at various levels of education.

She said there is need for her ministry to collaborate with the business community in identifying marketable entrepreneurial skills.

Ms Siliya said the business community should identify skills that can be taught in schools and universities to enable graduates to easily acquire jobs once they enter the industry.

  31. The PF has never had a single election for any member of their Central Committee. Every member of the Central Committee is in the executive body purely on Mr. Sata’s pleasure. You would laugh if you attended their policy meetings. Believe me, the meetings are simply praise meetings for Mr. Sata. The only decisions that are carried are those supported by Mr. Sata. My compatriots in the UPND, I beseech you not to be used as a door mat to take such a frightening party into State House. You will simply impose a Hitlerite state on the people of Zambia. This is the time to do your patriotic duty and save our country from an apocalyptic tragedy. I know that you are patriots and you will do what the country needs to ensure that Zambia remains in safe hands. You are in my prayers.

  32. The reflection for the pact is 1 both SATA and HH can win the election if fielded as pact president. if SATA is fielded as president what grantee is there that he will hand over to HH and can not fire him as we approach 2016?on the other hand if HH becomes the pact the presidential candidate then SATA will never rule Zambia but he will be guaranteed for VP for the rest of the term.IF the pipo like Kabimba and musenge allowed to make the comments as they are doing at the moment SATA will never be a president and the old man will just drop dead coz the pact will break. The pipo to be held
responsible if the pact breaks are Membe and the gr who use the post for his interior motives. Membe thinks SATA can rule Zambia without the HELP of other. He hates HH and the Tongas in general

  33. People! Let us NOT pretend that UPND in itself can win an election without getting to work with PF. PF as at now , is the strongest party, seconded by MMD. UPND is the least. For this reason, PF only requires a bit of coverage in places where Bembas are hated, viz, n/w, w and s. And it is in these places that HH can bail out the pf /upnd pact. You people, cant you see the PF coverage?Luapula, Northern,Central, C/B and LSK! You dont need a Degree to interpret this simple survey.

  34. When Jesus Christ was going to heaven, he said

John; 14:1 “Do not let your hearts be distressed. Vs.1 You believe in God; Vs.2 believe also in me. 14:2 “In my Father’s house there are many mansions. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you.

On the political front, i implore all mourners never to be troubled with the implosion of this so-called pact. MMD is not only a mass party of many but also a mother of all parties in a democracy of its own bringing. There are many mansions to accommodate every patriot in MMD. Otherwise, MMD wouldn’t have been the pioneer, and custodian mother of democracy in the country.

  35. # 42 Serenje Bull,

On what basis or methodology are basing your insuation that PF is the most popular party in the country? I hope you know that there are tools of quantitative nalaysis in political science. You have so much courage to say such myth on a public forum where scholars, dons, seasoned researchers and pollstars are never short of. I stand here to debate you on your research methods and design.

  36. Who are your web developers? Your site is too conjested with graphics I can’t even access the chat. Please, simplicity is what a good web page is about, For instance get rid of these chaps >>>:d:-?:)>-

  37. Come what may, MMD is out. PF and UPND are able to remove MMD even without the PACT. Dont worry guys MMD is gone come 2011.

  38. #41 nuetralman: “Membe thinks SATA can rule Zambia without the HELP of other. He hates HH and the Tongas in general”
If we are to believe what you are saying, does it he only like them(Tongas) in the bedroom department?

  39. UPND why do you cry now, yet thy has been warned repeatedly. Your honour thy president of UPND, thy is too stuborn and big headed, thy shall not listen to reason, thy shall aim to attain all power at whatever cost, thy president has been warned, by many a number of humble and wise people, thy highness thought all these were below the level of thy very educated and wealthy president of the great party UPND. Thy Mumbi warned you, Thy close ali Chizuka warned you repeatedly, Thy honour the Vice President Kunda warned you, Thy did not spare an ear, all these thy said were small brains, individuals with big heads but small brain. Thy highness with the big brain, is now stuck, stuck in mud and cannot move, who shall rescue thy royal Tonga King Ichilema, who shall come to its rescue? MMD MMD MMD.

  40. 24 Zed patriot, kwena ba HH bana jaila to get power on a silver platter the way he took over UPND. But who will give him the chance in MMD? For the past one year of Pact he has been insulting MMD leaders and members, is he welcome in that party? He is not presidential material at all and that is why he went into the PACT to ride to StaeHouse on Sata’s back. Does he think that MMD has no better leaders to take over from RB? Wishful and s.illy thinking, just concentrate on your Pact or your party UPND leading to nowhere. Ati chiputa bati.

  41. #49 hh:Reality dictates that to attain political power in a country like Zambia you need to compromise. Horse trading is the name of the game. The way things are at the moment in Zambia no single party can win elections with a comfortable majority. This has been the case since 2001 and the next elections would even be worse if MMD, PF and UPND stand as individual parties. As a result of these political stalemates new govts since 2001 have been spending the first term in office politicking and consolidating power instead of getting serious work done.
MMD needs UPND to retain power otherwise if the UPND/PF pact stays intact MMD will be out. This is the reality and trying to think otherwise is utopia.
If you are an MMD supporter ignore my advise at your own peril!

  42. Who says that PACT will not stand because of selfishness of its leaders. These guys are not selfish, I am sure they would love to give each other way. But it is not possible because they are two different parties with different ideologies, different manifestos – just different in everything only common thing is that they are led by human beings. Since they are so different, if Sata became president, he would drive PF manifesto and vice versa. And driving your manifesto is the basis and essence of politics, the alpha and omega of any president worth his salt, AND NOT driving MMD out of power for no good reason only that you want to be the one flying in the challenger jet.

  43. #42 it is people like you who are a danger to zambia’s democracy. What is your basis for claiming that PF is the strongest party in Zambia when you dont even know how many members you have. The only person holding PF together is Fred Membe, the day he decides that PF is no more, trust me PF will be no more. He has used the post to create an impression of how PF is strong and gullible people have believed this illusion.

  44. 50 “Reality dictates that to ‘attain political power’ in a country like Zambia you need to compromise. The issue of attaining power does not apply to MMD but to PACT. Have you forgotten that MMD is in power, the ruling party? Or did you mean “retaining power”? Anyway, whatever you meant, you should accept that the MMD is much stronger now than it was in 2001, 2006 or 2008. They have achieved a lot, whenever people say that RB has not done anything we all know it is simply jeolous and spite, or simply ignorance. Or you are probably one of those “on the ground” fellows?

  45. #53 PF nauseates: I rest my case. I have already warned you about being arrogant. I wonder what your basis for believing MMD is stronger now than in 2001, 2006 & 2008 is? You seem to be living in a world of your own. MMD needs UPND more than UPND needs MMD. As things stand now UPND is the greatest threat to MMD. If UPND stands as an individual party it will whip out MMD in areas where MMD’s popularity increased substantially as a result of the late Mwanawasa. A good indicator is the result of the recent bye elections in Solwezi and Mufumbwe. I am sure the MMD command are aware of this fact and that is the reason why they are courting UPND to form a pact with them.

  46. People like MMD Chief Bootlicker are alive because it’s illegal to kill them. With their dysfunctional political behaviour, there just creating a million enemies each time they post comments.

  47. I fear that we (anyone with an interest in seeing the MMD replaced) may be missing the point if we focus on which party is more popular between PF and UPND, and therefore which leader should represent the pact for the number 1 job.

Lets be clear about one thing, the fact is that niether opposition party believes they are strong enough to defeat MMD without the help of the other pact member. In this regard we should be focusing on presenting a united front. Divergence of views is characteristic of democracy, so the the current state of affairs is nothing new.

We need to be sure, however, that at the end of the day, whoever is chosen has clear and unequivical support of both parties and their members. Any sign of division will not endear the electorate
The whole idea of a pact

  48. 58 continued. …the electorate to the pact and will be seized upon by the MMD.

In my view, niether Sata nor HH should represent the pact. There are a number of names that i can think of that would be acceptable as leaders of the pact by both party and electorate.

If the leaders of the pact can pass up the opportunity of the leadership for the greater good of the country (and the objective – to remove MMD) then they will have demonstrated a level of sacrifice and integrity so lacking in Zambian politics.

  49. The problem is Both SATA and HH want 2 b President. We dont even know who gets which position in Cabinate. You condemed Chizyuka so much but he had his reasons. So now where are we HH says his the Best SATA is saying i had more votes ! we are done PACT this is reality….if election are to be done next year in April you have 10 months more. President call the shots on the date dont be caught naping.

by the Way why is SATA s adverts in Bemba…sorry my Bemba friends if HH did that youd say his tribal.

  50. You see, comrades, first it was Kabimba arrogantly telling HH off when he tried to explain the mix-up in both parties fielding candidates. Earlier, sorry, it was Guy Scott telling his candidate to go ahead to field a candidate in Kaoma. Chadiza was a different case although we can’t rule out a phone call directive. Where as on the Copperbelt, UPND acted to suspect its popular candidate for Chimwemwe who opted to go it independent after the party told him we are behind the PF candidate; and in Chifubu a strong UPND candidate was told off when he attempted to go it alone in the interest of the pact. See who is bringing confusion in the pact. Truth is PF is no longer what it used to be, what with a mass of rebels! HH and UPND are mature and hamble. They need out support

  51. Bloggers stop being naive. All those outside Zambia should just go home and register if not yet. You are just wasting your time arguing with strangers. These debates will only be won through the ballot box. There is a possibility that some/most of the bloggers are not even Zambians or are paid to write just to see whats on peoples minds. So regardless of the party you support, register now so that you make a contribution.

  52. If neither HH nor sata stand on the PACT ticket then I will vote for the PACT. Arent there other qualified and less selfish (than these two) zambians who can salvage this PACT and win the election?

  53. Our Bemba collegues are too big headed and proud and they burry their heads in the sand. The truth is both parties need each other. The other very hard truth is HH is a better candidate of the two and is easier to sell than old man Sata. At the rate at which PF is running, we the mighty UPND will pull out and let those with more popularity go it alone. Humble yourselves and lets do the right thing for mother Zambia for once. Sata’s time is up and he has nothing new to bring to the table. We southerners do not go into politics for gain, we already know how to look after ourselves, but our collegues. No wonder all thieves are Chilubas, Kabwes, Nchitos, Chungus etc, what a shame.

  54. HH is also to blame. Why did he even think he was working with a sensible being when dealing with Sata? Has he not been living in Zambia all his life to know what kind of a character the snake is? As it stands, he is actually in a powerful position as regards Sata’s future. If he decides to join MMD, then PF is finished. This means that PF should be bending over backwards to keep him on their side and not pour scorn on him otherwise HH may just decide to go with MMD simply to teach the wizened old snake with a sickly heart a lesson.

  55. 55 And where do YOU get information that MMD needs UPND, surely the happenings in the pact tell a story. Because of the PACT, UPND gave up an opprotunity to grow. How do you grow if you don’t stand in so called PF ‘areas”? What kind of party does not want to grow? Look at the dissatisfaction in UPND ranks, look at the time wasted over the past one year. Imagine where UPND would have been if it had listended to voices of reason. And where do people get these sill.y ideas that HH is material that MMD can use?

  56. #65 Mimi: Please don’t be selective in your accusations about who are thieves. Are stella Chibanda and Prof Ben Mweene, Bembas?.

I advise you to leave the PACT and join the MMD. Your man has better chances of making it to State House through an alliance with MMD and Zero through the PACT. Why do you think the same Bembas who are thieves will allow HH a place at the table after they arrive at State House. Get your arguments is some order.

  57. Sata is a despot whose party has failed to hold democratic elections within it`s rank and file. His party hierarchy is full of scalawags and is anchored on tribal and regional inclinations. Under no circumstances should Zedians entrust the apparatus of governing in his hands. As undemocratic as he is, if, god forbid he won the democratic elections, he would govern undemocratically

  58. PF should bear the blame if PF/UPND pact does not work. PF leaders do not seem to have respect for the UPND leadership. Kabimba`s statement a week or so ago did not show respect for HH. If PF guys are exihibiting such disrespectiful attitude what will happen if pact formed government? And why hasn`t Sata issued a statement since the Pact problems surfaced? HH is a very genuine and smart guy, i think he should evaluate the whole pact thing. From the behavior of PF guys, i dont see them respecting HH if Sata became president. The pact can only work well if HH became its president.

  59. I commend my provincial chairman for his comment it was long over due. We know Musenge does not want UPND because he left the party. Why should he worry when UPND meet to discuss issues about their party? Any serious Zambian can not accept the behavior of big bully which PF is trying to show. We need each other in this Pact. Sata can not win alone without HH. Those who are leaving in the past 2008 election results are mistaken. Sata had chance to win in those election but now HH may be the most preferred candidate going by massive support he enjoys where King Cobra is not popular.Zambians wake up to realities pretending will not help us.

  60. Entire Northern province Lungu chiefs endorse RB for 2011

ALL the Lungu chiefs in Northern Province have resolved to support President Banda and the MMD in next year’s general elections.

Senior Chief Tafuna of the Lungu people said in a statement issued in Lusaka on Wednesday by his representative Chomba Sikazwe that President Banda has exhibited good leadership in implementing development programmes.

  61. “All the Lungu chiefs have endorsed President Banda and the MMD for the 2011 presidential, parliamentary and local government elections,” Senior Chief Tafuna said.

The traditional ruler said President Banda’s good policies, especially in the agriculture sector, have resulted in the country to record a bumper harvest this year.

  62. MMD still force to reckon with, says PF MP

KALULUSHI Patriotic Front (PF) Member of Parliament Anson Simama has said it will be difficult to dislodge the MMD from power because it is still a giant.

And Mr Simama has said the PF-United Party for National Development (UPND) Pact would not form the next Government because its foundation was not defined when being formed.

Mr Simama said yesterday in an interview in Kitwe that the issue of the pact had not worked in Zambia before, and, that even the current pact would not work because its direction was not spelt out from its inception.

He said the pact was merely between the UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema and his PF counterpart, Michael Sata.

  63. The grassroot members in the two parties were yet to appreciate the workings and ultimate goals of the pact.

Mr Simama said in his area, for instance, it was difficult to point at any structure that existed for the pact activities.

He said the grassroots were not familiar with the pact and its activities apart from reading about them in the media.

Some PF and UPND cadres in Kitwe said on condition of anonymity that they were concerned about the happenings in the pact because the top leadership.

  64. Meanwhile, PF Secretary General Wynter Kabimba yesterday failed to categorically state whether his party was still committed to the pact amid allegations that the party was reconsidering its position on the two parties’ agreement.

And the Southern African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) advised the PF and UPND to resolve the problems that had beset the pact or announce their disbandment “as soon as possible” if they have failed to agree.

UPND secretary general Winston Chibwe said while admitting that there were problems in the pact, his party remained committed to the agreement.

  65. Pact failure’s due to immaturity – ZCTU

THE Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has said problems in the Patriotic Front and United Party for National Development Pact shows lack of maturity among some political leaders in the country.e said what was happening in the PF-UPND Pact showed that political leaders had not reached political maturity to make decisions. The ZCTU vice-president said the development showed signs of political leaders pursuing personal agendas at the expense of national interest which was paramount in politics.

  66. #66 PACT:
The idea of MMD working in a pact with UPND was started by VJ. VJ is MMD’s master strategist. He realised that MMD was in maningi trouble if the pact between UPND and PF stands. He has been working in the background convincing chiefs and influential politicians in Southern Province to back RB in 2010 in exchange for MMD’s rendering support to HH in 2016. Now how did VJ come up with such a proposal if UPND is not popular? VJ knows that the greatest threat to MMD is UPND. UPND is the party most likely to benefit from voters fed up with RB’s MMD misrule. Amongst the issues voters out there are not happy with is the Chiluba issue. Naturally such voters will vote UPND not PF as they are aware that Sata has worked with FTJ before. The fallout with the Mwanawasa family is another

  67. On “Mr Matambo was disappointed with Nkana Member of Parliament (MP) Mwenya Musenge for thinking the PF was more superior than the UPND on the Copperbelt and demanded that the PF should respect his party because they needed them in the pact” I totally agree with the UPND’s Malambo and i am humbly asking the mighty UPND to start comprting with PF on the Copperbelt as opposed to letting PF contend elections with MMD and other political parties.

With what has been reported about Mr PF/Sata MC’s talk on Hot FM radio, if I am correct, the UPND cant afford to wait for more time to ditch the PF-UPND PACT because there is only a short time for UPND to campaign seriously across Zambia if UPND has to win the election alone.

    Have a blessed day all.

  68. PF MEMBERS WILL BE THE ONES TO BLAME IF PACT FAILS, PF MEMBERS ARE SO ARROGANT AND RESPECTFUL OF THEIR COLLEAGUES IN THE UPND, THEIR BEHAVIOUR IS THAT OF BA KAPONYA, MONENI BEHAVIOUR YA CI KABIMBA ,NA CI SCOTT, THATS ATTAR NONSENSE, TO TELL OFF HH LIKE THAT, YOU ALL NEED EACH OTHER FOR THE PACT TO WORK , THE PAINFUL AND HARD TRUTH TO ACCEPT WHETHER US BEMBAS LIKE IT OR NOT IS THAT HH IS THE BEST CANDIDATE AT THE MOMENT, THE GUY ANALYSES ISSUES FROM AN INTELLECTUAL POINT OF VIEW AND IS UP TO DATE WITH MODERN WAY OF RUNNING POLITICS, LOOK AT BA SATA’S ATTITUDE ON CHINA, ALL NATIONS UK ,USA ALL DOES TRADE WITH CHINA SATA IS A REAR BLEED OF DREAMERS. THE BEST UPND CAN DO IS LEAVE THIS USELESS PACT PEFORE THEY ARE CORRUPTED WITH THE KAPONAYS. HH IS A SOBER AND DOWN TO EARTH GUY ,PLZ BE…

  69. WHETHER WE LIKE IT OR NOT SATA AND PF ALONE WILL NEVER FORM GOVERNMENT THESE WORDS WERE ECHOED BY RB TOO, SATA WILL BE 80 YEARS NEXT TERM AND I DONT SEE HIS EFFECTIVENESS AND WHAT I HATE MOST IS THESE BLOGGERS WHO SAY HH GOT HIS PRESIDENCY IN UPND ON A SILVER PLATER THATS STUPIDITY, SAKWIBA LOST THE ELECTIONS PERIOD. SATA HAS NEVER HAD ANY INTRA PARTY DEMOCRACY HE FEARS TO BE CHALLENGED, WHY DOES HE WANT TO ABUSE HIS FRIEND AND RIDE ON HIS BACK TO STATE HOUSE IN DRACONIAN FASHION ALL HIS EXECUTIVE ARE JUST APPOINTED WHAT CAN YOU MAKE OF SUCH A LEADER, PLEASE IAM TIRED OF THESE GRADE 7 RUNNING OUR COUNTRY JUST BECAUSE THEY CAN SPEAK NICELY, WE NEED EDUCATED PEOPLE, IN THIS CASE I WILL BE SAFER TO SEE RB BACK INTO STATE HOUSE THAN SEE SATA A DICTATOR LIKE SATA AS SUP POWER DUBIOUSLY.

  70. This was obvious, and I said then and I will say it now. The UPND will have itself to blame if it continued belonging to the PACT. No sane person will give Sata Votes knowing that he is untrustworthy and stand to be a brutal president ever. It is time to move on and there is no lose in being in opposition, But it is a sin to handover power to phsycopants
