Nkana Make Surprise Pick For Coach

Share

Nkana have made a shocking choice for the job of head coach at the record 11-time league champions in one of two official coaching announcements made on Friday in the Super Division.

The new man at Nkana will replace Benjamin “Kawilo” Chilongo who quit suddenly last month after four months at the helm.

Nkana’s executive has settled on ex-Power Dynamos midfielder Linos Makwaza who has been clubless for the last three months after his high profile dismissal at Forest Rangers.

Makwaza beat favorite Kenneth “Bubble” Malitioli for the Nkana job.

Makwaza joins the late Ben Bamfunchile in making a rare bench-switch across the Ndola-Kitwe Dual Carriageway with the latter moving the opposite direction to Power in 1999.

His move to Power’s sworn rivals will certainly not spare him from the wrath of Ndeke fans when he takes Nkana to Arthur Davies in Week 25 this September.

Makwaza will be assisted by former Nkana and Zambia international striker Zed Sialeti.

Fedelis “Josimar” Chungu slips down to second assistant while Fred “Schemer” Siame has been shunted to Nkana’s “Kavacha” as its junior team is known.

Makwaza first day on the job will be on Saturday at home against Konkola Blades in a Week 18 game.

However, Makwaza’s second game is charge is the one that is expected to generate a lot of interest.

In Week 19, Makwaza will make what is expected to be an emotional trip back to Forest in Ndola.

Forest unceremoniously fired Makwaza in April  with one club official describing him as “Mr. Defeat”  following his dismissal barely a month into the 2010 season in April after three successive league defeats and a draw in his first four matches of the campaign.

Makwaza joined Forest in June 2009 from Zamtel where he had made his head coaching debut a monthly earlier.

He steered Forest to an 8th place finish before a rough start this season that cost him his job.

And elsewhere in coaching appointments on Friday, Manfred Chabinga is the new Kabwe Warriors coach who will be the long-term replacement for George Lwandamina who was fired in May.

Happy Sichikolo who has been acting head coach will be Chabinga’s assistant.

  1. Have you noticed the teams in Zambia have different coaches but the same people! A coach is fired from one club, hired at the next, fired again, and goes back to be hired by the 1st club! Anyways ni pa zed.

  2. #2, Well that’s what’s happening in the rest of the world, not only Zambia – so what do you meanie????

  3. I guess watching the european leagues, we have seen the martin yos, the Rednaps, the Mourhinios, the Avrams and the list is endless. If you need to stay in the top leagues, its better to try out those that have an experience in it even if they have been dumped by other teams. Not new ones. Let new ones prove themselves worthy while they are stil below one’s league. I guess we can learn from MAN, Arsenal but a good example is Liverpool who are as unstable as they continue changing coaches, thanks to the selecting someone who knows the league already.
Even our clubs have seen this trend………#2 like #3 has said there is no trouble in doing that.

  4. #3 & #4, What i mean is in Zambia they keep hiring and firing the same person, like Bubble Malitoli. How many times has he coached Nkana. How many times has Chelsea hired and fired Mourhino? Thats my point.

  5. 6. Stop thinking about Nkana fc, i always tell you that they will go back to division one and they will. And if they loose the next game, they start throwing stones. SHAME.
