ZUFIAW warns of voter apathy if pact breaks

Share

A trade unionist has warned of serious voter apathy if the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) and the Patriotic Front (PF) pact does not reorganize itself.

Zambia Union for Financial and Allied Workers (ZUFIAW) president, Cephus Mukuka has observed that the UPND/PF pact has been a party to reckon with during its smooth operations.

He noted that failure by the two parties to deal with the current problems being experienced will result in great apathy in the 2011 elections.

Mr Mukuka also said that the two pact leaders need to realize that it would be an upfront to democracy if they allow their merger to break.

He challenged both Mr Michael sata and his UPND counterpart, Hikainde Hichilema to quickly address the issues.

Mr Mukuka said that there is tension amongst the electorate in the country and the leaders of the pact have a responsibility to calm the situation.

  1. Cephas, with all the due respect, please declare your position on who you support. Pact or no pact , voters will turn out just like have done before.I know you from the time I worked with you at Zanaco premium house that you have always supported Mr Sata.

  2. I for one I am not wasting my time on the long queues without the PACT. It will be straight forward that the minority government will win and continue subjecting Zambians to hardship

  3. HICHILEMA WILL NOT ACCEPT BRIBE OF FORMING A PACT WITH MMD NO! HE SI THERE FOR ZAMBIANS AND NOT THIEVES LIKE HIM RB

  4. Who said voting is mandatory?Mukuka just stay away from voting if your dream has failed, and stop speaking on behalf of zambians.

  5. Much ado about the “Pact” – was there one in the first place or a mere “intention” to have one?

  6. PACT in the morning,PACt at noon ,Pact in the evening,PACT..PACT..PACT..PACT nothing else,no discoveries or some developmental news..

  7. Cephus Mukuka like Chola Mukanga young brother to PF Kantanshi MP Yamfwa Mukanga is a PF cadre with a brother who is Sata’s blind surrogate. There is no institution or organization these two faceless PF cadres will ever hide their partisan zest from true and selfless Zambians be it it those of us on the fence or those in the political arena. They are free to hallucinate what they want in a democracy but we the people will proudly cast our votes and deliver a 5 year mandate to the bonafide winner. Who cheated this chap that every Zambian is for this embattled pact? Did Zambians become apathetic when UNIP boycotted, or when UDA crashed? If they voted en masse, they will vote this time too. Pact is not Zambia and Zambia is not Pact.

  8. CEPHAS MUKUKA Please stop partronising Zambians. Speak for yourself. If PACT dies, Zambia will move on. Political heavy-weights have died and we have continued to go and vote. Nobody is a god except God Himself. PACT is NOT Zambia and unfortunately the PACT to me looks like it is still too small to win an election. Check this out next year!

  9. PACT, a figment of disgruntled people’s imaginations. The (PF/UPNF) PACT is just a cartoon: an imaginary reality. Any pact signed by any group of people or body corporates first and foremost starts with a document outlining what the agreement is.

So far, there is no pact, there was no pact. Just a verbal understanding without any mandate or direction or even statutes to guide anything: except that those in it fear ridicule from people who feel and know that 1. none of them is capable of winning an election on their own, and 2. using crude and simple mathematics (full of assumptions) that UPND’s votes plus PF’s votes from the last election = majority. Wake up! People change loyalties in a democracy, they die too and others are born.

  10. 12 Correct, there was no legally binding agreement to form the PACT either because none of the two leaders were sure what they wanted, except the presidency they are 100% sure. And they were never sure how they would relate to each other. Please PACT, spare your members the agony just die quietely and peacefully.

  11. And just look at the picture “Wise and Selfless”, my foot! “Unwise and Selfish” more appropriately describes these two characters, doesn’t it?

  12. Mukuka is right, the PACT is the only hope for Zambians. The country will be on its knees if the MMD goes beyond 2011. Ba Sata and Ba HH ala twapapata put the PACT house in order. We need it!!!!

  13. At the opening of the world cup football games President Zuma was so optimistic that the world cup would remain in South Africa even when he knew quite well that South African team was not good enough. And when reality came to pass it was a different story.People who are naive, gullible, fanatic and pundits in most cases are blind folded by such causes bias; they cannot see the truth. And that is being stupid…..In the case of the pact people must know that so many feelings will be hurt and this will have its own consequenses. As an avid reader I can predict that if Sata is adopted, people in the south will be bitter with the pact and the same is true about people from the North.Luapula is for MMD.How then can the pact win in 2011?
