Sinazongwe woman loses both hands after crocodile attack on Lake Kariba

Share

A 24 year old woman was severely mauled by a crocodile on Lake Kariba in Sinazongwe, resulting in the amputation of both her two hands.

Juliet Siangombe of Ndolo Village in Senior Chief Mweemba’s area, narrated to ZANIS from her bed at Maamba Hospital that the incident occurred when she went to fetch water from the banks of Lake Kariba, accompanied by her sister in law.

Mrs. Siangombe said the crocodile attacked both her hands while she was in the process of dipping a container to draw some water.

The victim said she wrestled with the crocodile, which was pulling her into deeper water.

“While fighting with it I could feel it breaking my right hand and later it broke my left hand,” Mrs. Siangombe said.

Mrs. Siangombe narrated that her sister in-law shouted for help, after which some people rushed to the scene and started stoning and hitting the beast on the head with a paddling stick, but it was still not giving up.

Mrs. Siangombe said that after a long struggle the crocodile let go, after which the rescuers dragged her to the shore and rushed her to Maamba Hospital where doctors amputated both her hands.

Hardly a month passes by without one or two people being either killed or injured by a crocodile on Lake Kariba in Sinazongwe district.

  1. “Hardly a month passes by without one or two people being either killed or injured by a crocodile on Lake Kariba in Sinazongwe district”
What are the game scouts doing ? They must crop those beasts before more lives are lost.

  2. Very sad reading indeed. The next thing we will hear about is that this unlucky girl has been divorced by her husband. Get well soon sis.

  3. This is really sad. “Hardly a month passes by without one or two people bing either killed or injured by a crocodile on Lake Kariba in sinazongwe district” and yet our government is spending huge amounts of money on our President’s tourism activities. Please, you people have a heart for rural communities. Empower water and sanitation programmes, give people safe water points please. Drill boreholes in rural areas so that people dont go to rivers and dams that are infested with crocks.

  4. very sad development indeed..wish the lady a quick recovery, what a trauma she will live with…losing both hands at the age of 24.

  5. Hardly a month passes by without one or two people being either killed or injured by a crocodile on Lake Kariba in Sinazongwe district.

May God preserve her life, may the Government through concerned leaders please put up bore holes to help put a stop to these attacks.

  6. Its too bad young lady. How are you going to be holding your husband’s penis or how you will be cleaning the inner part of your vagina? but is just too sad :d

  7. ewe chi pandukani, can you learn to be sensible next, your comment is awful to say the least. Anyway I forgive you cause you are a mentally retarded person.

  8. People entrusted for rural development are doing little in terms of providing clean drinking water .. water from wells are safer than water from rivers. I lived in Sinazongwe as a child b4 independence. It is saddening that no protection of villagers from wild animals. Zawa should consider cropping these creatures, they have out numbered their prey.

    # 8 pandukani banda >> go to hell..

  9. And to think we have such people as part of the human species as #8 is incomprehensible. Oh, you’re trying to be funny? Anybody laughing with you? Piece of human waste!

  10. No.8 you are a very sick bastard do you know what this young lady is going through? Think before you write this not funny at all- small brain i wonder how old you are because i think you need help.

  11. 8. What a shame. This is the best support a Zambian can offer to a poor woman who was trying to fetch the water from the river to make ends meet because the govt has let her down without the provision of bore holes. To merely pity with her on how she will be able to hold a penis or clean the inside part of her vagina is shameful to say the least.

  12. No.8 you a Shameless, Filthy, Stinky little Bastard!!

Wishing the Victim God’s Love and Care for nothing takes Him by surprise, nothing is impossible and He promised to be with us till the end of time.

  13. Number 8…you are seriously sick…its not fun, what if this was your mother…would you have thought of your concerns? You need help.

  19. The problem of crocodiles attacking the villagers in Sinazongwe has been there for a very long time as stated in the article, but nobody is doing anything to curtail the problem. It is really saddening to read about such happenings. Surely there is a solution to curb the problem and safe guard lives in those places. People rely on the Kariba for their water and authorities must insure that a solution is found to provide that water without the risk of attacked by the crocodiles. Please ZAWA do something about those animal before we lose more lives along the Kariba!

  20. Ba LT ichisungu, a person only have 2 hands and why should you repeat that both her two hands were amputed.
