Zambia Police changes uniform

Inspector General Francis Kabonde

Zambia Police Service has re-introduced the old police uniform in order to distinguish its officers from others from private security firms.

Inspector of Police (IG) Francis Kabonde disclosed this at a pass out parade at Kamfinsa in Kitwe today.

And Mr. Kabonde has since asked private security firms that are using similar uniform to the one the police was using to change their uniform to avoid being mistaken for police officers.

Mr. Kabonde warned security firms against using similar uniforms similar to those used by police officers to avoid being mistaken as police officers in confrontations situations with armed bandits or during maintenance of public disorder.

He said the new uniforms will distinguish police officers from other security officers from private firms.

ZANIS Reports that the pass out parade marked the return to the use of the navy blue combat and barat for mobile police unit.

Previously officers had a green combat commonly known as the paramilitary uniform.

  1. Running out of ideas. Instead of going foward, you are going backwards. What mediocrity.

  2. So why didnt they just instruct the private security firms to change their uniforms
You ll soon hear that an order for new uniforms has been placed with a firm which has connections to some big fish!!

  3. Single sourcing and more money for the MMD 2011 campaign. Hope Seymour Holdings are not the suppliers this time around.

  4. Dont you edit your stories. What is police Union? What is a barat? a return to the navy blue? Zambia Police were Khaki in Northern Rhodesia and in the new Zambia post 1964! So exactly what are you saying in this story. Overall the story fails to explain whats happening and this just shows how ill trained journalists are in Zambia at present

  5. no 5, the mobile unit used to wear blue combat uniforms, the regular kaki and the para their proper uniform with an orange beret!

  6. They dont need to change their uniforms its the work mentality n attitude towards pipo they serve. Some one is making money out of this believe me.The corruption n abuse will still continue stop wasting the tax payers money.

  7. Why cant Government avoid certain costs kanshi? They owez sing about the Government not having enuf funds 4 even useful project and yet they are giving priority 2 such useless procurement of Police Uniforms.Y not instruct the other private security firms to change theirz?Am sure this z just a muv aimed at outsourcing more money 4 MMD 4 next year’s elections

  8. Another way to waste government money. Change where its not needed. Meanwhile the rot remains. No. 5 you sound too bitter. You see only the bad. There is alot of good at LT if you just care to look. Big up LT. You are very informative. Keep it coming. Remember to run a spell check though. Love ya

  9. This nonsence just give those officers good pay are the going to eat those new uniforms?

  10. You would think LT would post a pic of the uniform…..I forgot its reporting based on hearsay

  11. Lets hope it wont be a scam like the escort BMW’s from SA. Show us the new old uniform

  12. Twalwa again! …we need more money and next is ZNS . . .change from olive green to something green.

  13. You can change the outlook of Kabonde but his inward nature will remain the same – MMD Party Cadre. I bet Kabonde has found a supplier of the same in SA (promising him the usual cut) as they put on similar uniforms. Not only are his priorities misplaced but he clearly does not understand the needs of the policemen and women who patrol the streets, face armed robbers and wait on roads for hours and hours for RB to pass for his regular trips out of state house. They need better housing, better pay, better allowances, better furniture in there offices and better transport. Not that squalor they live in Police Camps. Kabonde, don’t just go around grinning foolishly transfrering people and changing uniforms, do better things for the police, they have families to look after too!

  14. Kabonde should be serious the private security firms most of them wear blue so what distinguishing is he talking about. Balefwayafye ukulya ulupiya! Typical MMD, twanaka nefyabupuba.

  15. #10 Dojo Do
It is about easy identity … Do you remember reading about a police officer monitoring election being beaten cos UPND suspected him of being an MMD cadret? Changing uniform will not change their ocuppation.

    #3 Mo taim (rascal)
What the police need is new uniforms. Does it bother you whom the manufacturer of the uniforms will be? I think this should not preoccupy your minds unless you have a dirty attitude towards the Chinese

  16. Maybe the Police need to change their uniforms in order to CHANGE their Mentality.

Right NOW you dont know when they is a chase, whether it’s the Police in Uniforms chasing criminals or it’s the criminal Police chasing men in civil clothes. Or whether It’s the criminals in Police Unifrorms chasing criminal Police in Civil cloths.

  17. Ba Kabonde naimwe lyenipo bamudala! Ni Kalyo bwele. No tender required for supply of the old, new or current or future uniforms, you can even suggest that you supply them yourself up to 2030.
