Don’t politicise death – HH

Share

United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema says it is wrong for people to politicise the death of any person as has been the case with late Mpulungu MMD member of Parliament (MP) Lameck Chibombamilimo.

Mr Hichilema said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that people should put politics aside and concentrate on mourning their departed brother instead of engaging in political talk when the bereaved family is still bearing the burden of the loss of their dear father and husband.

“You know we are mourning our friend Chibombamilimo and that is our call. We should ensure that we mourn with the family and remember Mr Chibombamilimo for the contribution he made to the people of Mpulungu,” he said.

Mr Hichilema said politicising the death of any person is unfortunate and should be condemned by all well meaning Zambians.

The UPND leader also condemned some youths who allegedly beat up Chilanga MP Ng’andu Magande on Thursday night at the late MP’s funeral in Kabulonga.

And Senior Chief Tafuna of the Lungu people in Northern Province said during the burial of Mr Chibombamilimo that all Lungu and Mambwe chiefs are disappointed with the behaviour of some political leaders who have been making statements aimed at gaining political capital out of the death of Mr Chibombamilimo.

The traditional ruler said this through a member of the Lungu Royal Establishment, Griever Sikasote.
Family spokesperson Titus Kauzi expressed disappointment that some political party members were engaging in fights as other people mourned Mr Chibombamilimo.

Mr Kauzi said Mr Chibombamilimo’s family will be forced to report perpetrators of violence to Government law enforcement wings so that the law could take its course.

On Thursday, Chief Zombe of the Lungu people directed PF leader Michael Sata to immediately stop commenting on the death of Mr Chibombamilimo because it was barbaric and untraditional.

Speaking on behalf of all Lungu and Mambwe chiefs, Chief Zombe told journalists that it was unfortunate that some politicians had taken advantage of the death of Mr Chibombamilimo to gain political mileage.

“It is sad to see people start attacking each other after the death of a nephew of the Lungu people and grand son of Mambwes. On behalf of all the Lungu and Mambwe chiefs, I am commanding that such politicians stop commenting on the death of our son immediately,” he said.

Chief Zombe, who is a nephew of Mr Chibombamilimo, also said the Lungu and Mambwe traditional rulers were disappointed that PF cadres led by Mr Sata caused confusion at Lusaka International Airport on Wednesday upon the arrival of Mr Chibombamilimo’s body from India.

“This is very untraditional and unethical. This system of doing politics over the death of someone is barbaric and should be stopped,” he said.

Chief Zombe said there is also a clause in the constitution that requires people to respect the dead.

The traditional ruler, who was representing Lungu and Mambwe chiefs at Mr Chibombamilimo’s funeral, said people who were politicising the death of the MP were dividing the traditional leadership among the Lungu and Mambwe people.

  1. HH just tell sata to behave. You cant be wearing partisan regalia at a funeral. It sends a message and for him he always wants his presence to be felt. His conduct is simply disgusting. To pretend that these skirmishes were expected is to fail to understand Kaponya politics…Sata and William Banda have been governors in the past and that should tell you something.

  2. Has this chap finally declared public war against his pact partner. This is the second time he is indirectly telling off PF. He knows very well that our leader Sata has spoken publicly about his feelings on Chibombamilimo’s death. These politicians are just hypocrites, even if HH wants to look clean, he is doing exactly that politicising this death. Also he wants to condemn cadres attacking Magande, we in the pact never heard him say anything when Chizuka escaped punches from UPND cadres at a press conference. That is why Sata has asked you to be sincere, you thought Sata would not lead the pact because of degree clause. Now you want to leave the pact, we will finish you under five.

  3. PF is as guilty as MMD in this embarrsing, un africa and unholy act.Sata, William Banda, abash such inhumane politics.

  4. Whether u keep quiet now or not, the fact remains: Sadly R.B promised to follow the late wherever he went & defeat him? So mr R.B when are u going to follow?

  5. I can now sadly confirm that the PF/UPND pact is dead & only waiting for burial. What is happening now looks like burial arrangements. Unless the constitution is re- amended 2 allow two heads of state in state house coz both want it at all costs.

  6. Now that is the civilized and educated mind, the HH that we expect. Unfortunately he has wasted a whole 12 months trying to ape Sata. Anyway he still has many more years left in him and with good minders can still rebuild himself for 2016 or 2020. You see being young is not a passport to President of any country. You must have principles and fundamental beliefs for the common good, and not seeking cheap publicity at any opportunity like ba Sata. HH’s model, Obama, has today been reported as supporting the building of the mosque near ground zero because “….this is America…where there is religious freedom….”. This is a bold statement by Obama in the face of the general sentiment in America. In contrast HH has condemned anything and everything done or said by the government, just…

  7. We hope to see a new HH from now onwards. But he can’t do that in the Pact because his partner there is tainted with everything that is bad in society, everything that you don’t want in a president of Zambia.

  8. For once, HH is talking sense, albeit while implying that his PACT partner (Chilufya Sata) is exploiting Chibombamilimo’s death. Sata is an evil opportunist and will do anything including using the dead to advance his futile political agenda.

  9. HH distances himself from Chifubu saga

United party for national development president Hakainde Hichilema says has refused to be dragged into the debate that the Patriotic front won the Chifubu by elections single handedly.
Mr. Hichilema says that he will use right channels to solve any issues that affect the squabbles in the patriotic front united party for national development pact.

  10. THE United Party for National Development (UPND) on the Copperbelt has accused the Patriotic Front (pf) of not being sincere going by the comments attributed to PF vice-president Guy Scott.

the UPND said it was disappointed with Dr Scott who portrayed the PF as being more popular than the UPND.
The UNPD has accused the PF of not being sincere in view of Dr Scot’s recent utterances.

But Mr. Hichilema says that such debates should not be allowed in the public.

He says that it is pure immaturity to allow such debates occur in the media as they are right channels to discuss such matters.

  11. Zati izi wati we exepecte from liiidazi! Now wirriam na shatapu puliizii behavu now now! In our dayzi zoz would have been put pakampelwa ohoho.
Where is the young man chipimo? Milupi where is your shallow self? Tell us how you will change the politics of this country or maybe you oloso want to be packidi like shatap andi Hechhechi.
Zizi politics finishedi old man nkumbula and kapwepwe, luku whati happened to mundia hey ati packidi. ifu you packidi each other umuzi asile ngako ngako. Me ni na vip kwa queeni ku mangalande nkondo ni ya nu. Amama na ho alikuno. Woooo

  12. ati umodzi asile ku nyozana nyozana yayi. Why calibre ya ma liidazi mu calo i ngo sila lomba ni a kaponya chabe pa stigeni.

  13. William Banda caused the fight by calling Lots of male cadres to fight the few PF cadres. William did this both at the funeral house and the burial site. he also organised the beating o Magande at the funeral house. I can see why Chiluba had deported him to Malawi… i think he should be deported again..i dont think he is Zambian.

  14. Only PF Kaponyas are condemning HH for words of wisdom. Where on earth can you start fighting at the Church during burial service? It is only those who have bad manners such as MMD and PF.
Zambians as Christian nation should be careful the were we behalf in the eyes of God. The house of God is place of worship not for fighting. No wonder Jesus chased those who were selling in His temple. I condemn both PF and MMD for their conduct during the funeral of the late Chibombamilimo we can do much better than what these Kaponyas have done.

  15. GEORGE Mpombo has said time has come for Zambians to get rid of President Rupiah Banda’s dirty cobweb of leadership.

In an interview on Friday after his release from Kansenshi Prisons, Mpombo – who is MMD Kafulafuta member of parliament – said President Banda and his cubs should expect tough politics and not the kindergarten politics they were used to.

“I have come out of prison with more determination. I am more focused and more reinvigorated and my mentality is now sharpened, and President Banda should know that I went to prison to prepare that place for him and his cubs because they are obsessed with self-aggrandisement whereby they have placed the police and prisons under their arm pits,” Mpombo said.
