Boy, 14′ drowns in Lusaka’s Chalala area

Share

A 14-year boy of Chalala’s Rockfield area died yesterday after drowning in a dam in Lusaka.

The boy, identified as Patrick Chiyesu is said to have drowned at around 12 hours this afternoon.

The grandmother to the deceased, Miriam Banda, explained that at around 16 hours on Saturday the boy was still in the dam, only referred to as the eastern query, for over three hours before any rescue works could begin.

This is because the only people who could have helped the boy demanded for k300, 000 from the family who did not have it at the time.

Later the family members managed to mobilize the required resources and handed it over to the group of boys who managed to get the boy out of the dam.

There was an officer on the scene but he could not make any statement on the occurrence.

The boy who was single orphan, is said to have only moved to Lusaka from Kafue, yesterday.

  1. Please these people cant help the boy first before demanding the money. How can they let the boy drown and only to retrieve a drowned body for a Ka K300 000? Heartless people.Knowing those boys/men in Chalala, after the retrieval, they went to imbibe mabafa of brown chibuku at Choklate City and Police Club.Sad story.MHSRIP.

  2. This trend in Zambia should come to an end. How can someone demand money before doing the much needed job. My recent visit back home showed me a different Zambia from what I knew it a few years back. Its sad indeed. MHSRIP

  3. It is very sad to see the direction our country has taken, how can recovery/ rescue of a body be left in the hands of mishanga boys? I thought we had an established fire brigade service in Lusaka.
Is there anything right going on in our country, the answer is NO!

  4. Those fools must pay back money to the family, thats total insanity to demand money before they could help.Imagine if the American marine did the same to the boy at Victoria Falls he managed to rescue ?There is more satisfaction in just helping for mahala than asking for payment in such situations. The Lusaka City Council must take the blame as well ,they must answer the questions of safety first,is the dam fenced or not if not why and what do they plan to do about?Any warning signs?etc May the soul of the boy rest in the peace of the Lord.Amen!

  5. The story is really saddening and I wonder what has gone wrong with the people in that area. Honestly speaking these must be protecting each other as they are so many people around those pits they have purposely dug out during the construction of the houses in that area and the council is doing nothing to ensure the safety of the people. For the ngwangwazi who could not help the boy is really wrong. We can clearly see that people are really poverty stricken and they can only do anything for money, besides that they would rather watch you perish.

  6. We have a lot of troubled souls, money before life and for #7 & #8 Ndalya Live, I have no words other than just say that he is a walking disaster, they should name a tornado after him. We just have to pray hard and The Almighty will deliver us.

  8.
