Several Patriotic Front (PF) members in Mpulungu have said that the public statements being issued by their leaders in the province were misleading the national leadership because they were not a true reflection of what was happening on the ground.
They have waned that if the statements were not stopped, they might cost the party dearly in the Mpulungu by-election because party officials would relax and be made to believe that Mpulungu would be as easy seat to scoop.
Recently, PF provincial chairman Fred Chisanga and District Chairman Charles Mazimba were quoted as having said that Pf would win the Mpulungu seat by a landslide because people in the area were not happy with the way government allegedly treated the late MP Lameck Chibombamilimo and wanted change.
But sources in the party today revealed that the story on the ground was different from the way it was being portrayed in the media.
The party official revealed that as their leaders were busy issuing press statements their colleagues in the MMD were on the ground in the remotest parts of Mpulungu constituency and they were busy campaigning for their party.
The sources said there was also need to hold elections for new office bearers at constituency, district, ward and branch levels within the Pf ranks in the district.
“ It is common knowledge that our party in the district was currently divided into two camps. The last meeting we had, to which they are minutes, it was resolved to hold fresh elections to elect new people.
“ This has not been done and the delay has divided the party. To say that PF in Mpulungu was in a state of confusion because of the many wrangling is an understatement, “ the PF officials revealed.
The PF members have advised their leadership to stop releasing media statements and put in place strong party structures that can challenge the ruling MMD in Mpulungu if the opposition was to scoop the seat in the impending by-election.
The Mpulungu Parliamentary seat fell vacant following the unexpected death of the MMD parliamentarian who died in an Indian hospital after an illness.

Endorsed by Sata in his presence PF-UPND Kasama Central parliamentary candidate Geoffrey Mwamba has said Kasama is for Bembas alleging that MMD candidate Burton Mugala was a foreigner from Muyombe area.
But second Republican president Frederick Chiluba in reaction said Mr Mwamba was preaching tribal politics which was regrettable.
Repeated as if not clearly said before Sata, Mr Mwamba, on a live programme on Radio Mano in Kasama, was quoted as saying Kasama was for Bembas, Mongu for Lozis and Southern Province for the people from that area, in direct reference to Mr Mugala whom he alleged did not hail from Northern Province.
He alleged that Mr Mugala was a foreigner from Muyombe and also claimed that the MMD.
And Dr Chiluba accused PF leader Michael Sata of impropriety and thuggery. Speaking on a live Radio Mano programme yesterday, Dr Chiluba also pledged his support for President Rupiah Banda and his administration, glorifying his leadership as one that unified the nation and fostered development.
He charged that Mr Sata was a dishonest person who on two occasions was sent to friendly foreign presidents to collect money for the party, but that the PF leader failed to account for it.
Dr Chiluba revealed that on two occasions, he also provided Mr Sata with funds but that Mr Sata equally failed to account for it.
He said Mr Sata was an unrepentant opportunist, whose loyalty to leadership and the people of Zambia was always questionable. And Vice-President George Kunda said Mr Sata and his PF could no longer match the strength of the MMD and had therefore entered into a pact with another finished party, the UPND.
“There is confusion in the pact, they are fighting for who is to stand for what seat, there is total confusion in the pact,” Mr Kunda nailed it.

To be honest the public announcements being made by those leader about a PF landslide win are immature, and very childish. While at the same time it is suddening to here that MMD has already started campaigning for the late’s sit. I feel it’s too soon especially for MMD to start campaigning considering the way he was mistreated plus the contradictory statements by Mabenga, Shikapwasha, etc about Chibombamilimo as a non factor or “he was one of us”, sort of. MMD should spend a little bit more time mourning their ‘one of us’.

I hope PF will stop trying to bully the UPND since the PF strategy of belittling UPND has failed for a long time now, even with the help of the PF vuvuzela, the POST Newspaper.
As for the issue of PF not having proper structures, that is a serious concern which must be looked at…

The truth of the matter is that the people of Mbala are so aggrived about the death of their own. It all started from the time their talkative M.P was fired by RB up to his death…The other issue in Mpulungu is the case of the Harbour! The people are not happy with MMD in regard to the economic status currently.

PF cannot win in Mpulungu. The best thing is to let UPND field in a candidate there. The people of Mpulungu cannot allow PF to win, in 2006 election UPND did far much better than PF.I know PF will always claim that they are more popular. It is their style.
