MMD will hold convention – Dora

Share

MMD Spokesperson Dora Siliya

MMD spokesperson Dora Siliya says the MMD will hold its national convention before the 2011 elections contrary to reports in some sections of the media that MMD has no money for the convention.

Ms Siliya said the MMD could not have embarked on elections at the lower organs of the party if it knew that it would not hold the convention.

She said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that President Banda has never announced that the party has no money to hold a convention.

“MMD has only one party spokesperson and those reports that are aimed at bringing the name of President Banda into disrepute as having said the party has no sufficient resources to hold a convention are false,” Ms Siliya said.

She said soon the party will start holding provincial conferences in readiness for the convention.
And Ms Siliya said the expelled MPs are no longer a factor in the ruling party.

She said it is up to the public to judge the two MPs because MMD has parted company with them.

“Whatever Mr George Mpombo is saying about our party does not hold any water because we have shown him the exist door,” she said.

On Sunday, the MMD expelled Mr Mpombo who is Kafulafuta MP and Chilanga MP Ng’andu Magande from the ruling party.

And MMD national executive committee (NEC) chairman for Defence and Security Lieutenant General Ronnie Shikapwasha says the current executive of the ruling party will be in office until a new executive is ushered into office.

Gen Shikapwasha told journalists yesterday in Lusaka that it is wrong for anyone to insinuate that the mandate for the current executive has expired because the convention to elect leaders has not yet been done.

“MMD is a party which may have a NEC running until the next convention. That is only when another NEC is put in place,” he said.

Gen Shikapwaha, who is also Minister on Information and Broadcasting Services, said anyone challenging the legitimacy of MMD NEC is wrong.

He said Mr Mpombo has been insulting the President for a long time without remorse.

“Many people have advised Mr Mpombo several times and I am one of the people who have counselled him but to no avail. He wanted to do it his own way,” Gen Shikapwasha said.

  1. The MMD will hold a convention to elect themselves. How BORING stuff.RB Un-opposed cause Mpombo & Magande expelled. Now the rest that have remained will endorse or rubber stamp his MMD rule. Anyway they will blame him and kick him OUT/Call him UNIPIST when MMD lose in 2011. WAIT.

  2. #1 You must be misguided. Have you ever seen the any political party anywhere in the world hold a convention to elect people from the opposition into their structures? Where did you learn your politics? READ MY WRITING: This is an MMD convention and we are election MMD members to positions. Call it boring or whatever. We are not PF or PACT. Ask PF to hold a convention an elect UPND members if you are looking for entertainment

  3. Questions: 1. What is the planned date for the next MMD Convention? 2. What is the duration of the MMD NEC mandate, according to the MMD constitution? 3. Is the current NEC still within term?

  4. By the time the MMD will hold the conversion, no one will have the ballz to oppose RB because by then they will have been expelled from the MMD. Any one talking about challengi RB will be kicked in the nut.s by William Banda and will not be allowed even to enter the grounds. Far king UNIPist that is how far back we have gone.
The MMD has the money for the conversion now that Zamtel is sold and workers parting away with K10m or less. The remaining money is more than enough to fund anything. Also Zesco tariffs have been increased. This is a lot for the machinery

  5. The thinking of these people is upside down especially #2.The people of Zambia not interested in a convention in which perssived opponents of incumbents have all been expelled and the out come is already known its like writing cheques to yourself and calling it booming business. They could definately serve alot of money if they did it the usual UNIP way of provincial party endorsements because the convention is their way of thinking is costly, self deceptive and a futile exercise.

  6. When is PF going to hold elections? If Mpombo and Magande wanted to stand against Banda, then they should have towed the party line and put in their names at the convention. All parties have what is called party discipline. MMD is no different. In fact lets not forget that RB became the MMD party candidate for the presidential by-election after an internal electoral process. He did not impose himself or was not imposed on the party. If the rank and file members of the MMD are unhappy with the expulsion from the party of Mpombo and Magande why have they not let their feelings be known or worse still they could defect to the the leaderless and rudderless pact. If party discipline is not important, then why do the so-called rebel MPs exist in PF and why was Chizyukha expelled from UPND?

  7. Am just wondering were the MMD has finally found the funds for the long awaited convetion.Last time i said Chiluba has been set free at a price..He is now claiming Zamtroop funds for $8m kwacha equivalent K40 Billion,he said even the auditors verified that that is my personal funds given by well wishers,he will be given pension at 80% incurbant salary as pension until he dies further more K7Billion presidential house per pension ”WHILE”…..Time will surely tell

  8. What convention? After kicking out all the other candidates ….. MMD has undemocratic tendencies. Boring go there sing all the ngoni songs all gree on RB and ferry the supporters back.

  9. Excellent, thats good democracy but excuse us in PF we dont believe in that crap, no convention for us. Wamuyaya kumulu lesa panshi sata epela.

  10. All the talk and reactions by MMDora are a result of the big rally that PF held on Saturday in Kitwe. I don’t attend rallies but I was able to witness the multitudes that trecked to Freedom Park as I strolled Freetown Road looking for spares for one of my vehicles.

  11. #4 Mungoma – There is no date and no elections only to party and phuck other people’s spouses and more AIDS for Morning Side Clinic RSA

  12. #1 I dont really believe the notion that Magande and Mpombo were forces to reckon with. My belief is that even if Mpombo and Magande were put together as one candidate against RB, they would lose. Magande might have been a good Minister but the zambian voter exhibits a wapped
mind voting for wrong characters….those that insult the most. Mpombo seems to be getting there. I saw the mammoth crowd that attended Sata’s rally but what Sata delivered was certainly below par. He spoke of the police wearing berets that were bought by KK forgetting in between there was ten years that he and FTJ messed things. The big rally is a sign that people want change except that our memories are terribly short. #10 sense
    #2 You are right

  13. Magande is a failure, Mpombo starting the fuel blues. They are not leaders but infact bosses who are full of self praise and no passion for the country period. VIVA MMD till 2030 when we the youth are organised.

  14. One more thing colleagues, Magande opposed Salary increments for MP’s amd Ministers but was ready to give money to private individuals. Civil Service was still under Wage Freeze

  15. This current crop of MMD leaders ,acts first and thinks later simply because of big mpuno wants things done his way , but remember big mpuno was never a founding member of MMD and by that i seriously doubt if he has even read the MMD party constitution .
Which clearly states that a MMD NEC needs to be re elected every 5 years and the last NEC was voted in , between july 13 and 17th 2005 which means that this current NEC has actualy over stayed its mandate which constitutionaly (MMD) expired on july 17th 2010 , so the NEC that conveined to expell Mpombo and mangande actauly in leagal tearms has no mandate . so this is the window opening that they the MMD did not realise when expelling these two MP’s and as such will bite them in the but
