The UPND leadership has castigated Patriotic Front-PF- Vice President Guy Scott for questioning its political strength in the just ended Mpulungu and Chilanga Parliamentary by-elections.

The UPND leadership feels Dr Scott’s article in Wednesday’s edition of the Post Newspaper is unrealistic and misleading.

UPND National Youth Spokesperson, Ronald Manenga says Dr Scott should acknowledge that UPND is gaining more support than the PF.

Mr Manenga has advised Dr Scott to refrain from issuing biased opnions that are contrary to facts on the political scene.

He said the UPND captured the Chilanga seat without any support from the PF.

And UPND Deputy Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa has described Dr Scott’s assertions as blared.

Mr Mweetwa said UPND will NO longer respond to Dr Scott’s misleading opinions.

He explained that the UPND has won 10 local government seats and three parliamentary by-elections since 2008 while the PF has lost five seats to the MMD, winning only one local government election.

He was speaking in an interview with ZNBC News in Lusaka.
In today’s edition of the Post newspaper, Dr Scott states that the PF lost the Mpulungu by-election because there is little presence of the UPND in the area.

Dr Scott further stated that UPND won the Chilanga seat because it is a PF stronghold.

Meanwhile, The National Restoration Party-NAREP says the Patriotic Front-PF-UPND Pact is taking the people of Zambia for granted by delaying to announce its leader.

NAREP National Youth Chairman John Pghiri says the pact should not think it’s the last hope and option for the country.

Mr Phiri was speaking in an interview with ZNBC News in Lusaka Tuesday.

He said it is clear from PF leader Michael Sata and his UPND counterpart Hakainde Hichilema that they are both eager to lead the pact at all costs.

But when contacted for a comment, Pact Co-Spokesperson Charles Kakoma disclosed that the political alliance has a deliberate strategy to announce its candidate at the end.

Mr. Kakoma said the pact will not be pushed to announce its candidate because its strategy of delaying to announce the presidential candidate for 2011 is progressing as per initial plan.

He called on opposition parties like NAREP to concentrate on selling their own 2011 presidential candidates instead of getting embroiled in matters of the pact.

  1. There we go.

HH – keep running away from the matters. You need to harmonise the Pact, review both the PF & UPND Manifestos. Once you do that then you will have a sense of Common Vision.

Stop fooling people because both Sata & youself are running out of time. There is an issue of the Constitution that everyone seems to be avoiding.

Then again, why waste time as the UPND leader, talking about a Pact, trying to resurrect a Pact that was not born. Besides, does Sata have Manifesto that one can look anyway?

  2. Can some please say something on the election results in the US. We are tired of the same stories by LT. Who has taken the day?is it Democrats or Republicans?……………………..

  3. The reasoning is simple: If PACT works, there is no way Guy will be Vice President . It’s not difficult to postulate!

  4. While both PF & UPND are fighting and kissing each other unfondly – All that MMD needs to do is to call a Snap Election in the New Year and then the nation will just see more drama and comedy on who will lead the Pact against RB

In the meantime – MMD need to kill off that Satanic “William Banda” Else, he will heavily cost MMD their lifeline in Lusaka Province.

  5. 2# One Zmk was equall to One British pound.

The people of American are not talking about Zambia, Sata RB or HH today. They are eventful discussing the US national issues this morning

Before you remove the plank into someone’s eye, try and remove yours first.

  6. Mweemba my young man lean not to react what you read in the paper get on the phone call Scott and advise him.Your reaction doesnt have to be before the press thats why we have heard today that MMD are in dire need of a pact throw their young visionless Sampa asking UPND to join them in a pact, remember Sampa supported UNIP unlike you you are principled educated not in the class of cosmo mumba, sikulapwa, and sampa.
Lastly l lived in Mpulungu for 12years till 2009 before l moved to kalomo apart from a teacher and policeman both heavy drikers l didnt know of anybody else who was trully UPND but in Kalomo nearly everyone is UPND maybe try to conquer the region Mazoka and Nkubula did it.

  7. The pact should just dissolve because there is too much sizing of each other. The Bible in Amos 3:3 says, “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?”How I wish people like Miyanda could rise to the occassion and give us alternative leadership!

  8. The pact has nothing to show for in areas they control. Their MPs avoid anything to do with development. Bring insults, inuendos, insinuations and Fr Bwalya then you seem them appear. The rains are comming, lets see the lusaka floods were PF hold a majority. They will scatter and take cover and blame RB, while holding the post, from behind flooded toilets. Only when we have their areas flooded like Chawama will we see them trying to show they are working. They are nothing but a collection of failed bussines men, blooted bussiness men who would rather talk about their cars, petty drug dealers and crooks binded together by the prospect of looting Zambia and surported by tribalists with a chip on the left shoulder.

  9. You can tell us that’s the plan; to announce the pact leader later. Well, the down side is you are better of having a broken pact now than later. Consequences then will be too gustly to contemplate. FOOD FOR THOUGHT.

  10. I am beginning to sense that the Pact is going nowhere. It is now showing very plainly that both leaders are vying for one position-to become president simultaneously!

If the issues in the pact are too intertwined to solve, then, both parties should call it a day rather than keeping on confusing us with their rhetoric!

  11. #4 Independent Observer
That is my prayer – Elections in January 2011.We will be assured of more comedy as all hell will break loose in the Kaponya/Under5 pact.

  12. An unfaithful husband is making love to his wife and suddenly loses
    his erection.

Husband,’ Ya! but fi MMD now they are even following us to the bedroom, they’ve just rigged my Erection imagine bana bwalya.’

Wife,’ Awe fyena ifi fyachilamo bashi Bwalya, I can freely tell you
that you are not being fair to me,we need an independent observer to come and sort out this problem before this marriage falls apart.’

Realizing how serious the problem had become, he decides to sort it out himself.

Husband,’sorry my love, actually that was just a rejected ballot, let me vote again in a free and fair manner’
True to his word he casts his vote again and the couple is back to passionate love making like in the good old days, then the phone rings persistently.

    Wife,’bashi…

  13. Wife,’bashi Bwalya maybe it could be an important call’

Husband,’na Bwalya ulekonka ifunde, this is a secret ballot, you want everyone to know ati ndi pa BWATO

  14. #, I think the same. There is jostling for positions in the component parties.
If Pact succeeds then Guy Scott will lose the Veep to HH, but then the position does not change for Gay in the unlikely event that Sata became Veep. The only one who seems to have a safe seat in PF is Wynter Kabimba who is assured of Secretary General of the Central Committee of PF as in the UNIP days. He seems assured of Secretary General of PACT too as the UPND chaps don’t look ambitious.

  15. On ‘But when contacted for a comment, Pact Co-Spokesperson Charles Kakoma disclosed that the political alliance has a deliberate strategy to announce its candidate at the end’, Do they know that end when the elections will be called? It just means that’s the time they will break up because they will not give their supporters a chance to get to accept the chosen candidate when they should be busy campaigning.

  16. This is very interesting especially when looked at from this morning’s HH’s story. I wondered why HH did not go to Mpulungu to campaign on behalf of PF and why Sata did not return the favour in Chilanga. There is no pact to talk of and surely can you entrust the future of the country to people who have not managed to come up with a formula on how to work with each other in over a year? Some of us are sick to death with these daily wrangles and would like to discuss and debate concrete policy ideas not this infantile back biting. These guys are going to be caught with their pants down if RB calls for an early election after the rains in April.

  17. The credibility of the issues are only are good as the source of the story about the issues. Its ZNBC, what do you expect?

  18. No 2.
We’re not interested in what’s happening in the US. We have our politics to talk about. Why worry about who’s winning in the US?

  19. PF is refusing to accept reality. That Scott guy is worried about his position.PF is losing support while UPND is gaining those are facts which a sane mind can not dispute.

  20. #2. One Zmk was equal to One British pound. I think you better change your name to One Zmk was equal to half a British pound or ten shillings. 75n i.e. three quarters of one ZMK was equal to 1US$ and 1 Brisbsh pound was equal to 2 US$.

  21. #5,19,21 You have not answered my Question.Anyway you are late to respond, I already know which party has taken more seats.American politics are equally interesting bane don’t pretend.are you not following events in the US?

  22. I am a PACT destroyer, let each party go it alone so that we prove which one is number 3. Let MMD, PF and UPND stand alone in 2011 so that whoever comes number 3 will be a vice in 2016 when the real PACT between UPND and PF will be formed.

I say this due to the fact that there is tag of war between PF and UPND, especially on the part of UPND who have always come number 3 in general elections are denying the fact that they are a smaller party to PF. So no pact in 2011 till the elections answer for us who is a smaller party so that in 2016 , the number 3 party will be the vice.

This is the only solution guys PF and UPND. Dont pretend that you will chose a PACT president, you will not coz you have put aside the election result reality.

No PACT in 2011, no PACT in 2011.

  23. Ladies and gentlemen, i am urging all the young people to rally behind the pact. this was a conceived by the young and so its purpose is working. The pact is the only solution to the eradication of abject poverty our relatives wallow in irrespective of region they hail from. The old people have failed us hence the need for a meaningful change in 2011. I have closely followed comments on the HH – pact not ready for president story. Indeed HH is of sound mind contrary to outburst by Scot. Scot is worried that his time is running short and thats factual. Actually their is speculation of who to take over from PF since sata is nursing a severe ailment. Thats why his political vuvuzela’post’ shadowed PF in today’s edition.

  24. Finally, ladies and gentlemen, Zambians shouldnt be bothered with a headache as to who should become Pact president. The mark is clear on the wall as natural logic provides. Trees shed off old leaves to pave way for new ones and thats when you can see good fruits. Sata and RB are old and shld fallout like old leaves. Nature further provides that if old leaves persist stay onto twigs, strong winds shake them off and they fall out. The youths are the winds and shld come with force to liberate zambia. KK observed this natural logic by giving Chiluba, Sata & RB chance to serve govt at prime age because he could not resist the pressure from youths at that time. of the 3 leaders (Sata, RB & HH) Its time for HH its time for us the youths.

  25. Nope…whatever pacifying or placating or sweet words you use towards the youths, the writings are on the wall. No PACT in 2011, let PF, MMD and UPND stand alone. We are too tired of this nonsense of bulldozing each other. As it stands PF and UPND both are claiming to be popular than the other, hence no one is accepting to be the vice. Thus, let the 2011 tell us who is the smaller party between PF and UPND, threre after the real PACT will be forged between PF and UPND, the party that will come number 3, should take the vice. This is the deal I am making between PF and UPND.

No pact in 2011, 2011 is for helping us know who should be the vice between the PF and UPND pact in 2016 elections. FNITO GUYS!!!!

  26. Sata is a confusd bafoon who is using the post en ths scote dawg thru his columns to under estimate the might UPND any blogger in support of PF en Sata is a confused crap infact an ***** sichopeti.

  27. Everyone wanna be a leader when they can´t even read the simple basic needs of the people. It´s a big shame or pity that a country like Zambia, is indeed going through a leadership crises. The pact is just a skeleton at this moment just as it has always been till these big elders learn to sut down round a round tale and resolve these issues. Yes we can, if not why not? We shudn´t just be looked as a Peace heaven.

  28. I read the column by Dr. Guy Scott in the Post yesterday and I am just wondering what could have annoyed Manenga and Mweetwa so much about this article. I thought it was a sober and objective analysis of the recent by-elections. I want to suggest that LT reproduces the article in full so that other bloggers can evaluate the article themselves and come up with their own independent judgments rather than just rely on the reactions of Manenga and Mweetwa who obviously have their own political axes to grind.

  29. Guy Scot is a failed politician. What has this man done for Lusaka Central. Come 2011 you will be lost in thin air. Its like Pf MPs just know noising making without actions. Just look at how the PF run councils are under performing.

Guy Scot was also a failed Minister of Agriculture. The only achievement this man speaks of when he is asked what he did for the country as minister of Agriculture, the man goes like, ‘ i brought/bought yellow maize for Zambians.’ This man boasts of bring GMOs for Zambians. Due to corruption and non performing this man was unceremoniously fired.

Can we surely expect any new thing/ideas from these failed politicians? The answer is a resounding NO.

  30. I have seen intelligent Whitemen but honestly speaking Guy Scot is one of the most dull whiteman i have ever seen. Remember when a white is intelligent, it means he is really intelligent and when dull it means really dull. And this is the category of Guy Scot really dull.

  31. Abena 1zmk,its pipo like u and vj rigger who really ameze me with yo level of thinking.to very shallow.dont u realise that the only problem our country has is not who is president or going to be president, but our compromised constitution.rb is a gud leader but sturborn, sata can bring development an control over investors in an irrational way and hh can invest mo in his companys and country but in a tribalistic way,why all these, analyze this

  32. ba LT – Could you publish the article in question so that we can decide for ourselves whether this reaction is okay or not.

  33. this white man..has a place to run to when war comes into effect..lets not give him coverage and ignore his nonsense articles..guy scott doesn’t lose anything after all he’s losing Lusaka Central..we can’t have a whiteman as veep in zed..

  34. Some contributors are really a bore,if they are not talking tribes then it is races,Guy Scot has right to comment and entitled to his own opinion why reduce that to the colour of his skin? Listening to Obama on the midterm elections, he reminded the nation ( America),that indeed real power rests with the people who vote and not otherwise! Therefore, the people of Zambia will have the final say has to who is going to lead them come 2011.Pact or no Pact we will vote for the next President!

  35. Dr Scot said “that the health win by UPND (3702) versus (2339) was the result of PF withholding a candidate from election, thus making UPND the Pact representative and surrogate PF candidate. In Mpulungu there was little or no pact effect, since UPND has very little support in the area” These are statement which annoyed UPND youths. My advise to Dr.Scot is that he should avoid unnecessary analysis that may seen to injure others. He should accept that PF lost in Mpulungu because MMD are strong in that area than saying that UPND have no support. It was not UPND who stood in Mpulungu but PF. When each pact member party stand in any election it does so on its own not as pact. His analysis should have been why PF lost if when Post gave them all full coverage.

  36. Hee senior Citizen where are you?

Please let us put our effort together in destroying this useless PACT. I supported the idea of the PACT but now I have seen that it is sheer waste of time. Let all three self proclaimed biger parties in Zambia go it alone in the 2011 elections. PF alone, UPND alone and MMD alone so that we see which party will be number 3. The number 3 party then will be a vice in the PACT with the number 2 in 2016.

The 2011 elections will decide for us since each party is claiming to be the baggest even when all evidence is there for the past 3 elections. What else do we want ?

Hence, in 2011 there is no PACT, PF and UPND are becoming so silly…taking Zambians for granted. But I know people will vote out MMD with or without PACT.

    Very stu.pidy PACT.

  37. zambia is a british colony which follows all its governing using british laws.now picture this, america is democracy, how the hell did chiluba try to mix the two govts.BA is a autocratic,USA is a democracy, that is y our laws fail to apply.u cant get a goat and a cow to produce an offspring.so we need a govt with proper governing laws.any party who promis that to me is a vote counted.if argue question for illaboration.

  38. what a rubbish article from MMD-controlled ZNBC – it should be called “MMDNBC” – is the Youth Spokesman “UPND Leadership”? PF facilitated UPND’s win in Chilanga by withdrawing the PF candidate. I wouldn’t be surprised if this story was simply invented

  39. i kno vj rigger myt be confused with what has been said in#42.wat i mean is,if u get democracy,it has all the freedom includin talking vulger against the president, but in zmabia the law wil block u,so how do u rule?e.g indecent xposure is an offence in zambian law but the same democracy calls for freedom of xpression.what is that disaster.our women are walking entirely naked in the streets.we need a constitution to go with the pinocode.for proper govng.

  40. SCOT is sick and foolish old man.UPND was not helped by PF to win the Chilanga seat. The last election in Mpulungu in 2006 UPND was second. He should just admit that the party has been rejected by most of the non bemba speaking tribes bcoz of arrongance and tribalism and nepotism of SATA and his relatives. Stop blaming others just go to the drawing boardand acknowlege that MMD and UPND are more popular than you are. Stop smoking daga too.

  41. #45 I can only add that Scot should ahve also included his swallow analysis the impact of the Post Coverage on PF in Mpulungu.

My brothers and Sisters when i say Scott is a very dull Whiteman am not practising racism against him. What am saying is that the old man is limited in thinking. Lets assume that his analysis is correct that UPND is weak in Mpulungu. What about the role of the Post pro-PF coveraging Mpulungu By- election. Scott should have mentioned that since UPND is weak in the area, this vacuum was filled by the Post Newspaper but alas we lost. This is a fair analysis because Post is PF. No doubt about that.

In the final analysis Positve Coverage by the Post and non existance of UPND in mpulungu cancels themselve. Hence what remains is MMD vesus PF. And Pf lost period.

  42. Keep on with yo childish fights in the pact while we get stronger and stronger. Viva MMD. In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is the king. Sata and HH are blind. Guess who the one eyed man is…..

  43. Pipo like guyscout are bad pipo in zambia.he has no village where he came from.he is very old,wat is he still wat to do to the zambian pipo.he is a disgrace ***** old man who doesnt care about zambians.

  44. pipo of zambia, when UPND or PF youths and pipo like scott talk, dont think that it is serious or it is coming from PF/UPND party, those are individuals who are fighting for high possitions in the pact.

  45. #38 Mwatayamvo, I think you have a problem, or need to mature. People are talking about real issues you are talking about race. Whats wrong with having someone of a different race to be vice president or president. Thats almost the same thing of saying a person of a particular tribe cannot be president. And your statement means even Obama should not have been president of the U.S.A Think about what you want to write before you comment because that thinking of yours is retrogressive.Try or learn to be objective. Guy Scott, wrote an article in the Post read it and comment.Personally i didnt see anything wrong with it.He put what analysed from his perspective and what he understand. And i think he had a point especially concerning the Chilanga seat they all share a third, MMD, UPND and PF.

  46. He put what he analysed from his perspective and what he understands. And i think he had a point especially concerning the Chilanga seat they all share a third, MMD, UPND and PF. If PF and UPND had both had candidates in that election the Pact would have lost in fact they would be individual parties and not pact therefore the MMD would have won the election atleast by 1000 votes or so.

  47. On “The UPND leadership feels Dr Scott’s article in Wednesday’s edition of the Post Newspaper is unrealistic and misleading.

UPND National Youth Spokesperson, Ronald Manenga says Dr Scott should acknowledge that UPND is gaining more support than the PF… UPND Deputy Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa has described Dr Scott’s assertions as blared… UPND will NO longer respond to Dr Scott’s misleading opinions,” I am glad that PF has felt the heat coming from the ever expanding UPND group in terms of numbers in Parliament, Local government as well as National appeal by Zambians especially voters.

The desperation by PF shown by Guy Scott is welcome especially that Zambians can no longer be cheated by the Post Fudge (PF) mouthpiece masquerading as a Newspaper.

    Be blest…

  48. Pf youths were seen de-campaigning against the upnd in Chilanga. They were pf guys who were planted to help MMD win elections to shame the upnd for their refusal to allow pf candidate. UPND won because they are just popular in the area and the fact that Cap Moono is well known in Chilanga, and many people wanted to show that he won the last election of 2006 despite the court ruling against him in 2008 favouring Magande. I was residing in Chilanga at the time of elections in 2006, that race was between MMD’s Magande and UPND’s Cap. Moono and the truth was the latter won that seat. Pf candidate was no where close to that race, though he managed to get a handful of votes, leftovers from the favourites UPND and MMD. Viva UPND

  49. When upnd lost the Luena seat in Western province, pf celebrated, now they have seen that upnd is a mature party run by people of substance who do not celebrate when a friend loses an election, now they are resorting to bad comments. PF accept that your popularity is going down and many people cannot accept your cheating rhetorics any more. Viva UPND the only party which can manage to grab seats from the ruling party. Advise to pf is that, do not hate people when they succeed but just befriend with them so that you can learn their winning ways then tomorrow you may be in a position to be on top of them. PF learn from UPND’s ways of grabing seat from the ruling party period.

  50. When did upnd came second in mpulungu? If mmd, pf and upnd were all stood in chilanga, the results would have been different. Mayb mmd would have been rejoicing. But if upnd stood in mpulungu, the results would have bin the same. Upnd wil never appreciate the truth of the matter. Dr scot was very rit. Can someone prove me wrong about the popularity of upnd in mpulungu and pf in chilanga.

  51. # 56 avoid wild statements that can not be proven. Dr scott is a an idio’t no two ways about it unless you have not followed his political history. I rest my case. You must also remember that upnd left mpulungu for PF as agreed by the working committes of the pact and pf left chilaga on the same grounds eventually.
    Abash mad pig scott.
