Zesco Target To Advance In CAF CL

Share

Zesco United are looking o finish off the job on Saturday when they take on Liga Muculmana in Maputo.

The two sides clash in an Orange Caf Champions League preliminary round, return leg tie.

Zesco lead 3-0 from the first leg played at Arthur Davies stadium in Kitwe on January 29 and need just a narrow defeat by two goals or a draw to advance in Mozambique to the first round.

However, coach Fighton Simukonda has said he is not taking the game as a formality despite the healthy advantage Zesco enjoys.

“We have to be very careful,” Simukonda said. “This return leg like a first leg match.”

Simukonda is carrying a full squad with the exception of defender Nyambe Mulenga who was dropped after a tug-of-war with Faz in a club-versus-country dispute for his services in midweek.

However, Zesco is set to give junior international striker Chakwa Lungu his Champions League debut this weekend with the Ndola club.

A lot is expected from the teenage striker who has enjoyed prolific form at Under-20 level.

Lungu inspired the Zambia Under-20 with five goals to help them retain their Cosafa Youth Cup title last year and Simukonda is hoping the striker will replicate the same display for the Ndola club.

Meanwhile, winner over the two preliminary round matches will face either Saint Michel of Seychelles or Young Buffaloes from Swaziland next march in the first round, first leg match at home.

Young Buffaloes enjoy a 3-0 lead over Saint Michel from the first leg played in Manzini a fortnight ago.
