POST should not set agenda – RB

Share

President Banda talks to US assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Johnnie Carson (r) and American Ambassador to Zambia Mark Storella at State House

President Rupiah Banda has called on the media in the country not to allow the Post Newspaper to set the agenda for them.

President Banda said this when he was asked by Journalists at ZAF City Airport to respond to today’s lead story in the POST Newspapers.

The story under the heading ‘ MMD in Napsa Fundraising Scam’ suggests that President Banda wants to use parastatals to mobilize campaign funds for the ruling party.

Mr. Banda said it is not surprising that his name is mentioned by the daily tabloid everyday.

The President said allowing the tabloid to set an agenda for the entire media fraternity will be encouraging the scandalizing of innocent people.

And President Banda told Journalists that campaigns in the Mporokoso by-elections are on the right track.

  1. the post with mmembe as editor are members of pf. Mmembe wants to be vice president if sata had to win elections. mmembe has skeletons in his cabinet and pipo who listen and believe in the post are nothing but low level minded. we believed in the post a long time ago but now it has its own agenda. all credible pipo who wrote for the post are gone, neo, laura miti, simuchoba, masauso, too numerous to mention. post newspaper cannot even sale bcos even now go on the streets its still stacks and stacks in the hands of newspapers men. you wont find times or daily bcos its all sold out by ten hours everyday.

  2. Nail on the head RB. You can’t spend each day responding to the Post! Hope the other media houses have heard the wise words.

  3. But whats wrong with that ba RB? We thought you were an economist? We are in the free market economy. The problem with these other media houses spend more time reporting on you who is so boring. Let them start reporting on the govt in waiting also and they will see how they will improve on their sale. PF for life!

  4. Ba excellence let rabid dogs bark the loudest kabili they are in another world where they imagine things other than what is real.

  5. hez denying wen he knws that the thruth shall prevail just like it did abt the RDA saga, removal of abuse of office, leasing of schools clause in the education bill, zamtel sale and many more scandalous activities being fueled by this headless man. he should just accpet that hez failed to lead the nation. hez been corupted by the chinese, indians and other infestors to the extent that he cannot go bac and negotiote for proper tax laws. mines contribute a paltry of 2.2% to the total revenue collected and yet they export the largst chunk. shame on you supporting stupid ala B!!!!!!!

  6. The media are the ones allowing the POST to set the agenda for themselves. They never ask the President to respond to Times, Daily Mail or ZNBC lead stories. In today’s Daily Mail, the reporter is maliciously insinuating that the PF convention will not take place when this paper has deliberately failed to report on the on going PF provincial conventions!

  7. At least for outside world we shall be reporting development issues on the front page of our national newspapers and not negatives all the time, whether true or not.

Story as presented by the Post is obviously twisted facts to malign RB. How will Meanwood transfer the money to RB or MMD or any other party without raising concerns at ZRA, DEC, staff of Meanwood, Bankers where Meanwood maintains its account etc.?

Also, the story is scanty and more on “skew and scandals” without mentioning the size of land being purchased, location, use of land etc. I know a number of friends who have bought land from Meanwood in airport area and they had to pay for those parcels. Land has value in Lusaka now and to find big parcels of land is almost impossible. So objective reporting will bring…

  8. Embattled Fred Mmembe is a very envicious and bitter primate against successful entrepreneurs and smart citizens. It is all evidenced with his incorrigible hatred for affluenced Executive late Anderson Mazoka, Hichilema and now maliciously jealous against seasoned entrepreneur Mr Zulu proprietor of Meanwood Property Development Limited, Meanwood Finance Corporation Ltd Zambia and others. This is a successful Zambian who started Meanwood a company formed and incorporated on the 14th Of October 2005 as a private limited company under the companies Act Cap No. 388. Who doesn’t about Mr Zulu and Mr. Abe Galaun as model land and real estate gurus from time in memorial? Jealous has failed Mmembe and is eating him faster into his Grave.

  11. Mmembe’s toilet tissue belongs to the pit latrine. This ka gay thinks he can think for zambians. These are the last kicks of a dying gay.FBZ will soon recall the k36billion OD which will result in burrying of this ka sheet paper.

  12. The truth of the matter is that The Post has both the courage and integrity, also the sharpness, to bring to the surface the unpalatable and sordid doings of those in power. The State-run newspapers are just “His Master’s Voice”. That’s why they can never set any agenda of their own.
#8, Senior Citizen, you are not being serious when you insinnuate that Fred Mmembe is a failure, are you? Otherwise I’ll seriously doubt your sanity!

  13. The post does not set an agenda. They report on the happenings in society. Since RB does crap, the post report crap about him. If is playing with naked girls in swaziland you blame the post for covering him? If he flys out of the country every week do you blame the post for telling you? if the post says RB does not think by claiming that there was ponography reporting on the woman giving birth on the pavement in Kabwela’s case would you blame it? if the post qoutes RB saying Sata nimambala would you blame it? RB is just shame in the morning, at noon, in the afternoon and in the evening.

  14. 14 ABC. think before u yap!!!!! who do u think controls ZRA,DEC and the anti corruption comm? even the banks, who do think they would report the misdeeds of the govt wen the watchdogs have been compromised. look at wat happened to Finance bank. ala bane we are sitting on a time bomb. only the might sata can diffuse it!!!!!proud pf member!!!!

  15. AKULOTA RB….ITS THE PAPER THAT PLAYED A MAJOR ROLE IN OBAMSA VICTORY….TEMU ZAMBIA MU RIGGINGA AMA ELECTION….INO YR MULECHIMONA BAMUMBWE

  17. #1 please speak for yourself..we love the post because in contrast to the mm.d papers we are informed, educated and entertained without any baisness..it is you who is dull

  18. I notce that the President did not respond to the allegation about Napsa adding fuel to the speculation that the Post is right!

  19. Mr President this is the only time i have agree with you. Now that the POST is supporting the PF all of us shouldn follow. Mmembe has lost it. Anyway they say nothing lasts forever and this is the beginning of the end for the post. Mmembe has run out of ideas and thinks he is larger than Zambia. GOD brings down those who are arrogant.

  20. IS IT THE POST WHO HAS INSTRUCTED ROTTEN MEDIA NOT TO DIG FOR INFOR. THERE IS A LOT THE POST IS DOING FOR THIS COUNTRY AND THESE LAZY REPORTER AT ZNBC,DAILY WAT, TIMES USELES JUST COUNTER ACT STORIES WRITTEN IN THE POST. IF THEY USE EFFORT THEN JST KNO ITS A RUMOR FROM KA EDWARD UMUTWE KWATI LIKOFI LYESHILU MUMBI. THE POST IS THE PAPER A SENSIBLE PERSON CAN NOT ACCUSE,……IPOKOLOLESHIKULU KAILI….TOOO MANY SCANDLES BABA….LAPGREEN THE OWNER GADAFI ALI MUKALYOLYO. WHAT WILL HAPPEN……MWANYELA KUSOSI BA MAD DOGS

  21. Can any sane Zambian stand and support government controlled media? Even ass kissing should have a limit people!

  22. #20 Editor, I thought that you guys say that the PF and mmembe command overwhelming support. So which people in Zambia are left to be compromised? The same PF supporters? More like it since you guys in PF try to mask your corruption by accusing others of what you would do if you were in power.

  23. Can any sane Zambian stand and support government controlled media? Even a.s.s kissing should have a limit people!

  24. Just ignore them mdala. But improve on your performance. We still need the Post to keep checked. You nowadays sound a little more intelligent because of the Post’s constant check on you. WE NEED THE POST TO SET THE AGENDA.

  25. Some of us stop buying the post the time the blacked out UPND.The post made a political decision instead of a bussiness one.By not covering UPND,they forgot that it has members also who buy it.Let PF alone there party buy it.Im sure by now they have known that there sales have gone down.

  26. Fred Mmembe is a prick! He thinks he’s got divine powers to elect a goon into State House? Fortunately, the little hypocrite will be put in his place. Moreover, the new owners of FBZ will no longer grant dubious overdrafts so 2012, wina azalila…

  27. Inde. Kapondeni pa matekenya ka Membe kamve madzi!
Yes, step on Membes’ jiggers and he will feel the pain!
    He can see bankruptcy looming.

  28. If the article had been about anyone from the opposition, this u.g.l.y lump of fat would be running to DEC. Remember how quickly they impounded Sata’s vehicles. Somebody still has to explain how it is that NAPSA paid so much for land whose use they cannot even explain. It is no use just avoiding answering questions. Some of you people on this blog are brain dead. Especially #40. It is a pity Zambia still only has one newspaper. That’s why scandals are only unearthed after the thieves are hounded out of office. By then the coffers are empty and the money has left the country.

  29. No 12 Senior Citizen

How can Mmembe be jealousy of Mazoka’s successor when he is married to the daughter of Mazoka? Are your facts right?

  30. Is President Rupiah Banda mature in thinking or developing DEMENTIA?

The POST Newspaper has reported on a serious topic, “CORRUPTION involving the Head of State himself, President Banda and his MMD party.”
Take not of his answer, ” President Banda has called on the media in the country not to allow the Post Newspaper to set the agenda for them.”

I remember when Chiluba was involved in corruption when he was President, he would answer nonsense, to questions involving the POST, what happened later he was jailed and things revealed.

Mr. President, Zambians want answers not international trickery answering styles, the Post did not set any political answers by reporting on your corruption!

You will soon run out of is ideas, you bankrupted the POST Zambian Airways and now FBZ,…

  31. #41 Chitapankwa,

You are right, things are not alright in Zambia’s political circles. From the way the MMD vuvulas have been attacking genuine critisism here on LT, you can just conclude that Zambian politics are been run by the MAFIAs under the MMD.

You can not unleash Public Media against your own people, only dictators does that!

If this scandal of President Banda, his tribesman, and MMD involved opposition leaders, the ACC, DEC and Police (MMD stooges) would have swung in action to arrest innocent Zambians, just look at the way the Lusaka City Council issue being handled, ivestigated by private investigators plus the CC, DEC e.t.c, who knows if the SHUSHUs are involved?

These type of behavior makes people to revolt as father Mupasa advised the MMD to avoid the Libyan type…

  32. Rupiah arrogant as he is has been cut to size by the Post Newspaper. How else can he respond when his tribesman has confirmed the transaction?

That is the job of the media…to inform and the post did just that

He can ask Times, daily & ZNBC to defend his corrupt acts. The opposition do not complain when they are always and consistently portrayed in the negative by the govt controlled media.

The Post is the only credible and news worthy print media, it even criticises the opposition particularly PF and Sata.

    Banda Bamunaya alapila

  33. In the political realms, you either say “no comment,” meaning you are hiding something or you comment, and your answer is unsatisfactory-like avoiding the real issue surrounding the question and accuse the media of setting the agenda for the entire media organizations in the nation. May be the best way is to ignore the question and move on! But as tax payers, we need the head of state to explain why a government agency cannot get land through the lands ministry, instead they buy from a private individual/company at an exorbitant price.

  34. Actually MMD has been stealing our money for their businesses. These scandals will come out once they leave office.

  35. This is the reason MMD is so desperate to cling on to power. If their hands were clean, they would just take an ACCEPT ANY RESULT attitude. Zamtel is gone so NAPSA is the target.MMD supporters think what you like, but the fact remains that MMD has been abusing parastal funds

  36. We respect the POST so much. I cant spend three pin on rubbish papers like Times of Zambia, Daily Mail because they are just not objective. So Movement for Mad Dogs leave the POST alone!!! just go and watch Chanda Chimba III on ZNBC as your alternative

  37. Post is just right. The problem that is there is that all boards of directors have been infiltrated by political cadres. Now,whatever decision they make will be politically inclined. How does one explain the presence of Leonard Hikaumba on NAPSA board? The chap is a typical MMD sympathiser. What decision is he going to make if not political in nature? The whole NAPSA board should be scrutinised if sanity is to be restored.NAPSA has a mandate to be a custodian of peoples’ money. There is supposed to be prudence in the way money is administered.NAPSA is supposed to make viable investment decisions for the nation. They should not be decisions which are political in nature.

  38. One thing i dont undersa=tand by the Intelligent people at the Post is why they are advocating for the Libyan and Egypt kind of protests in Zambia. First of all our situations in Zambia is very diffrent, not changing a leader and not changing a party are very diffrent. People you sould no that if civil war breaks the innocent die while the pepetrators such as memmbe hide in their bullet proof mansions. Membe hated Sata, why the sudden change of Mind? whats in it for him? WHY DOESNT HE LIKE HH? and is he as objective and he wants to come out if so why is he keeping Malupenga when Malpenga is a highly compromised journalist going out with a former minister and a source? so really the post is the post indeed….

  39. Vote RB for continued development…Dmn the Post and their biast reporting.we shall shame them just like always.
