`No vote for pro-gay politicians’

Share

The church says it will campaign against political leaders advocating gay rights and has embarked on sensitising and educating members of the public on dangers of voting for such candidates.

The stance follows Patriotic Front (PF) president Michael Sata’s statement that homosexuals have rights in Zambia.

Bible Gospel Church in Africa (BIGOCA) overseer Bishop Peter Ndhlovu said in an interview that the church has embarked on programmes aimed at sensitising and educating people on the dangers of voting for leaders advocating for gay rights.

Bishop Ndhlovu said prayer meetings will be held around the country based on various themes to preach on peace, harmony, unity, and reconciliation as Zambia heads for the general elections due this year.

Bishop Ndhlovu said Zambia needs leaders who are biblical and have values. He said it is inhuman and an abomination for the country to have advocates of gay rights.

“The church is coming together to hold powerful prayers and public meetings to educate people on the dangers of voting for leaders advocating

gay rights. It is cross-denominational,” he said.

Bishop Ndhlovu said his church will go flat-out to campaign against the PF and any other political party promoting gay rights.

He said Mr Sata has run out of ideas and if he and the Danish journalists want to promote gay rights, it will not work in Zambia.

Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) executive director Pukuta Mwanza said in a separate interview that the prayer meetings are aimed at educating the general public and voters on how to identify qualities in leaders in the coming elections.

“We want members of the public and voters to know what to look for in leaders and we will continue campaigning against leaders advocating gay rights because we do not want our country to have such bad laws that promote inhuman ways of life,” he said.

Rev Mwanza said he will ensure that gay rights are not enshrined in the Constitution of Zambia.

Meanwhile, Government has asked the church in Zambia to reject people who want to defile society with evil and immoral practices such as homosexuality.

Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services Ronnie Shikapwasha said the church must stand up and rebuke homosexuality because it is unChristian, unholy and ungodly.

“Homosexuality is not only abominable but also criminal in our society,” Lieutenant-General Shikapwasha said.

He called on Christians to keep praying for peace and unity ahead of presidential and general elections due this year.

Rev Shikapwasha said Christians should pray for President Banda and his government so that he continues to lead this nation in peace and prosperity.

“We want members of the public and voters to know what to look for in leaders and we will continue campaigning against leaders advocating gay rights because we do not want our country to have such bad laws that promote inhuman ways of life,” he said.

He said this in Lusaka yesterday during the graduation of Omega Global University of South Africa.

Gen Shikapwasha urged the graduates to be the light of the world.

“The degrees you are getting today are not for prestige but they place a heavy and noble responsibility on you in guiding our society and being partners with government in the development of our nation Zambia,” he said.

Omega Global University Chancellor Vusumuzi Sibiya challenged the church leaders to become biblical and develop spiritual intimacy with God.

Professor Sibiya said this is the only way they will overcome challenges and temptations in their endeavours.

  1. Bishop Ndhlovu, its sin to tell lies. Your hatred for Sata is not doing you any good. I know you are pro-MMD but you are destroying and confusing the church. We know that MMD is using a deep propaganda beyond you. Please get to know Chanda Chimba and you will realise you are dinning with the devil

  2. 1// Lundazi Zealets
You have the right to your opinion but, Zambia should not deviate morally by accepting such manners like same-sex marriages as this will have permanent damage to the nations is fundamental principles and values. Sure not in our generation and when the teachings of our Lord Jesus are clear even to those who advocate same sex marriages, like Mr.Sata is quoted. Let’s not accept day light hypocricy.

  3. I wonder how a parent can feel when a son asks to be wedded to another son. Imagine your only two sons ask you to wed them or your two daughters tell you they want to marry each other. This is not only confusing but psychologically torturing to you as a parent, and those others in society who probably wanted to marry your children. We should plead with Mr.Sata and his supporters on this issue to seriously reflect before they preach such things to a God fearing Zambian Citizenry.

  4. MMD is scared of going to Jail and do there destate of Sata. My question is whether its right for someone caught stealing a Chicken worth K25,000/- to go to Jail for 1 year while those THIEVES (Chiluba and Rupiah), having stolen billions of kwacha would want not ot go to Jail. Its the wind of Change now and all that have stolen from the Zambian people will pay just after the elections.

Let’s all register to vote, let’s all campaign and vote for Sata. Let’s collectively get back our Monkey from these thieves and bring a message that we shall not condone any thieves in our Motherland. May the good Lord bless you this sunday

  5. What did Mr.Sata actually say am left with no option but to ask honourable # 3 and #4 to listen to The CD and read our penal code and marriage Act. Editing some thing to fit your liking is not good. Read between the lines and be honest, dont be biased. Just like you I agree that we must not promote gays and lesbian in Zambia based on our Christian beliefs. But to deliberately quote someone out of context in order to gain political millage is evil. Chanda Chimba CAN go all the way to activate propaganda all because of money. MMD is spending too much in order to use him. No gentle people lets be objective but honest. This hatred must not continue for the sake of our children

  6. Is this BIGOCA thing a church or sumthing, i wonder what kind of pipo go there. similar to Dunamis and danny pule aka FTJ nonsense!!! You *****s will rot in hell, time for reckoning is just around the corner.

  7. MMD is scared of going to Jail and so there destate of Sata. Question is whether its right for a person caught stealing a Chicken worth K25,000/- to be Jailed for 1 year while those THIEVES (Chiluba and Rupiah), having stolen and stealing billions of kwacha remain uncaged. Its the wind of Change now and all that have stolen from the Zambian people will pay just after the elections.

Let’s all register to vote, let’s all campaign and vote for Sata. Let’s collectively get back our Money from these COMMON THIEVES and CROOKS and bring a message that we shall not condone any thieves in our Motherland. May the good Lord bless you this sunday

  8. #1&2, your comments look rather misplaced to me. They are more like a knee jerk reaction. All that the Bishop is saying is that they will hold prayer meetings to sensitise people against leaders advocating for gay rights in Zambia. Is that a lie and against whom or what? Your reaction is a case of the guilty are afraid because of recent reports about someone.
Even the EFZ Director has said something similar. Read the story again.

  9. #1&2, as for Chanda Chimba III he does not lie. In his “Stand up for Zambia” programme he simply quotes what Mr Sata and the Post have said previously and the conclusion would be the same even if he did not try to narrate or interpret. You can verify this by reading past copies of the Post yourselves.
Last night there was a repeat of the programme on ZNBC TV and it left no doubt whatsoever on what Mr Sata told those Danish journalists. Mr Sata did utter those words and your defence of him is feeble for lack of basis.

  10. H.H. Sata,read this;
Bishop Ndhlovu said his church will go flat-out to campaign against the PF and any other political party promoting gay rights
Has Bishop become a political play championing lies. Why PF? when did PF start championing gay and lesbians rights. Come on citizens. Differetiate between propaganda and real issues.

  11. Deja Vu and company, assuming that Mr Sata did not utter those words or was misquoted, I have asked you previously to state whether you support gay rights or not. Please answer or are you in a bind?

  12. #11, read my comment at #10, and I quote partially “Last night (Saturday) there was a repeat of the (Stand up for Zambia) programme on ZNBC TV and it left no doubt whatsoever on what Mr Sata told those Danish journalists. Mr Sata did utter those words and your defence of him is feeble for lack of basis.”
Please watch the programme or buy the CD, why do you guys like to comment without facts? Is it so hard to listen to a tape or to read for yourselves? Also read my comment at #12, when can I expect an answer?

  13. #13, thank you very much for your candid answer. So, since it has been established that Mr Sata DID UTTER those words of support for gay rights, are you saying that you DISAGREE with Mr Sata, at least just on this issue?

  14. I am not a gay activist and you can continue listening to ZNBC’s Chanda Chimba’s propaganda that wont change my mind on a person that I know you are accusing. If Chanda Chimba has managed to convince you, u are at liberty thats the beauty of democracy. But to insinuate what is not correct is sin in itself.

  15. #11, I thought that Mr Sata should have used the occasion of PF Lusaka province conference yesterday to deny his gay statement or at least to clarify his stand on gay rights to the nation. If he did, forgive me I have not read the Post this morning but you can tell me what he said. If he did not, please tell me why he denied the nation and himself too the opportunity of such an important clarification.

  16. #17, Chanda Chimba III “has not managed” to convince me. It is the tape recording and the tape was not made by Chanda Chimba but BY the Dutch journalists who in their wisdom decided to release it to other interested parties.
But please answer my question as candidly as you did at #13 and I quote: “So, since it has been established that Mr Sata DID UTTER those words of support for gay rights, are you saying that you DISAGREE with Mr Sata, at least just on this issue?”

  17. #17 Lundazi zealot, to make it easier for you, if Mr Sata DID indeed UTTER those words, would you DISAGREE with him, at least just on this issue?

  18. @ H.H. Sata

You mean you don’t know that in propaganda a recorded conversation can be edited (doctored) to suit those who are part of the AXIS OF EVIL AGAINST MICHAEL CHILUFYA SATA? What is the purpose of Chanda Chimba’s Stand-Up For Zambia Programme, is it not to destroy Sata’s reputation? Why must we trust Chanda’s crap? I don’t support PF or any other party, but it is evil to be malicious. If the Post wrote negative things about Sata then, how would we trust their judgment then, and not now, because it suits us? What if they have realised they were wrong all along about the man, and now they have realised the he is not what they thought he was, and they are too proud to apologise? Come on, Guys, lets see both sides of the coin.

This EFZ Mwanza must not play tribal.

  19. #18 thats the problem with one track minded people like you, you cant see beyond mmd propaganda. sata released a statement on this issue and what he said is still on post newspaper online. how many times do you want him to state his position on the same thing. it is not surprising that the daily mail,ZNBC,Times and indeed LT did not cover that story because it does not serve their masters well. do not be biased my friend. dont let your political affiliation think for you. anyone sane knows that anyone supporting gay rights in zambia cannot be voted by the majority “Christians” and sata cannot be so stup=d to sacrifice his political career for gay perverts! this is pure propaganda by mmd my friend.

  20. Our graduate research students have revealed that pro gay rights politicians and Sata will not be elected.

  21. MMD BISHOPS SAY YOUR PROPAGANDA WITH YOUR THIEVES.
IFWE NI SATA AND PABWATO COME 2011.
THE WIND OF CHANGE IS BLOWING THIS YEAR.
BE PART OF THE BALLOT REVOLUTION.
VOTE MICHAEL SATA AND PF COME WHAT MAY.

  22. On “Bishop Ndhlovu said his church will go flat-out to campaign against the PF and any other political party promoting gay rights… said Mr Sata has run out of ideas and if he and the Danish journalists want to promote gay rights, it will not work in Zambia” this is good and I am glad that Easterner-named people who claim to be representatives of the church have vowed not to support PF in this year’s tripartite elections.

This is great and I hope the sensitisation will yield positive results so that PF is made obsolete after this year’s elections..

Be blest all and vote for UPND Team especiall Mr 2011 HH to form GRZ Administration so that the UPND can correct the mess serpent Sata MC left us Zambians with when he was in GRZ Administration with Mr FJT Chiluba.
    _
    Matt…

  23. MMD BISHOP SHAME ON YOU, WE ARE VOTING FOR MICHEL… YOU HAVE NOT EVEN ASKED HIM TO KNOW IF IT TRUE OR NOT…. YOU CHURCH OF LIARS… GOD WILL PUNISH YOU.

  24. Love gays or not, they dont enjoy themselves in the public they do whatever they do in the confines of their own rooms or hotel rooms so it shouldn’t concern anyone. I dont support them but the beauty is they dont do it on my door steps so why should i worry about them.
And the trouble is they dont need to be protected by law just like prostitute dont need parliament to do their work. So this is futile MMD propaganda.

  25. Mune iwe H H sata, twalikwishiba, kabili wishibe ukuti gay or no gay MMD kuya bebele uno mwaka…..MMD tafwaya democracy cino calo ca democracy, so MMD has no place in Zambian politics……..sata or no sata MMD alipwa kuya bebele.

  26. Iwe no.19 HH sata, do you know that this issue is not about gay rights? Tactics your time is up ba makaka, enough is enough.

  27. The chaps who are promoting gay rights are the state media it self! The pictures in the weekend post of 18/03/2011, whilst we may not like them but those are things which are happening in this our christian nation. In short they are worse things to pray about than this gay rights nonsense!!!!!!

  28. Bishop Ndhlovu is a prophet of doom and swims in corruption. He is like Judas scariot he sold Jesus for a few coins. we know very well and your manouvoures with chiluba and RB will never yield any results. This is its PF and Sata, we are forming popular government .Just join the Revolution and save Zambia

  29. #3,4 My Son. I respectfully disagree with that view. Isn’t Christianity about loving your neighbours, good will, respect and tolerance? If so why would you trust, believe and follow people (BIGOCA) who are advocating prejudice against certain or different communities, i.e. the gay community? You have got to be careful about any religion, cult, campaigners that do not respect or tolerate others!

We Zambians and Africans love to talk about our culture as if it were the best, taking the moral high ground and denigrating other cultures. The flaws in Zambian culture are plenty, i.e. polygamy, patriarchy, etc. Why are we discriminating against gay people, as we so did with those that were HIV/AIDS infected; totally wrong! Doesn’t god love all, even those that don’t believe or follow…

  30. …him?

The Zambia that I know (and I have been back every year for the last 10 years) is peaceful, loving, proud and respectful, but very disappointing views about the gay community on this blog.

  31. BIGOCA and the other fanatics, do not represent the church in Zambia. Itis0wrong to even say ‘the church’ because they are not representative of the ‘church’. BIGOCA is a sect and not a church. It broke away from the Reformed Church. What do you expect from such an organisation which dines with sinners?

  32. I have known Peter ndhlovu from the time he was a reverend at reformed church in matero. His first born son timothy was my friend.I was at his home n matero east in 2006 durring elections,he cme back from voting and he said and i caught”TIPASEKO BA SATA NCHITO”.I wonder what has happened in the last 5 years for him to be staunch critic of SATA,or maybe its because chiluba is against sata.Because kafupi used to visit his church. This guy whenever i visited his church he talked about giving tithes etc. They want zambia to be a christan nation because they thrive on the turn out of people ‘so as to get tithes.A gay is as bad as an adulterer chiluba who peer ndhlovu befriends.I bet if a gay millionaire started visitin his church,he would be saying its ok o be gay.

  33. #5 Lets collectively get back our “MONKEY” from these thieves. Which monkey???? I presume you are bemba who eat monkeys.

  34. These tribalists masquerading as men of God must be stopped and not cause unnecessary havoc in the country. I don’t like Sata, and I don’t think I will ever vote for him, but that doesn’t give me a right to tell lies about him. These tribal church leaders should be ashamed to speak so many lies about Sata just because RB is their fellow tribe’s man. Shame on all you who throw justice and fair play in preference of tribalism. Your hatred for Sata shows that you are shallow minded, and your love for money shows that you are modern day “Pilate”. You make Sata even more popular by these propaganda, and cause me to doubt the credibility of RB.

  35. I am not a reverent or pastor but Bishop Ndhlovu. I m a GAY and will vote for RB. Happy Peter and his paymaster Chiluba?

  36. on a serious note, world is moving fast, scientifically it is proved that men can have different orientations, why the hell Peter and similar hypocrites will like to derail political discussions from “development and growth” issues to personal orientations. I agree with Chisha Mwamba. Everybody has the right to practice as long as they do not impose their practices/likings/dislikings on others. Why do we forget, JESUS, our saviour was a deviant character in the eyes of preachers, priests and their masters Romans? He was crucified for his beliefs and shed his blood for the human race. We shall learn from his sacrfice and accept divergent views and focus more on welfare of masses than irrlevant issues and pump “opium of intolerant religion” and spoil the peaceful atmosphere and tolerant…

  37. “…….advocating gay rights”….. Imwe the readers kumo naba LT, what rights are you talking about???? Let us understand that there are many rights that human beings enjoy despite the difference in our social, political or moral status… Gay or non gay.. What if Sata had in mind the right to life or expresing ones opinion, on what ground can Ba Bishop decampaign against him? Mwebantu let us be quick to seperate subustantial issues from ama RuBish….!!!

  38. Lundazi zealot; the problem is you are arguing intelligently against someone arguing both emotionally and unintelligently. Propaganda is usually aimed at those that refuse to or are simply unable to stand on logical reasoning.
Do Zambians fully understand the gravity of denying another being basic human rights or are they simply throwing around words? How can you blubber about Jesus saving your wretched souls whilst uttering nonsense like a person has no rights? What is your definition of moral corruption and why the afixiation on such a small group of marginalized people in the wake of day-light robbery. Think, God gave you the gift of independent thought, not of man-worship.

  39. Im a christian BA and Im not ashamed to publish it, but if its true that our church leaders are coming out sided on politics on which party and leaders to vote for, I strongly feel its dangerous because not all BIGOCA members are mmd or pf or upnd, this may divide the church of God, I know thats where our former president dr chiluba fellowships .Lets leave people to freely vote their own choice leader. This propaganda on Sata supporting gays is not true and if our church leaders will support and influence the churches based on such unfounded reports, I feel the church will be below politics .The church should ENERSTLY pray for God to give us a leader and not direct people whom to vote.

  40. #39, you sound more like an impostor than a “christian BA”. By the way the proper sequence used by real BAs is “BA christian”. Well tried PF cadre, but we know all your tactics now.
“This propaganda on Sata supporting gays is not true and if our church leaders will support and influence the churches based on such unfounded reports”.
Haven’t you heard the tape for your self? Even PF Secretary General Wynter Kabimba acknowledged the words and voice of Mr Sata in the tape, and only made a feeble attempt at twisting the meaning of the words. He LISTENED to the tape, heard the VOICE and the WORDS spoken by Mr Sata and did not deny that it was Mr Sata’s voice or words. So what are PF cadres denying?

  41. #21 GK the patriot, PF Secretary General Wynter Kabimba acknowledged the words and voice of Mr Sata in the tape, and only made a feeble attempt at twisting the meaning of the words. He LISTENED to the tape, heard the VOICE and the WORDS spoken by Mr Sata and did not deny that it was Mr Sata’s voice or words. So what are you saying? Should I listen to you or to your Secretary General?

  42. #28, as long as the next President is not Sata, I have no problem with MMD kuya bebele.

So kuli imwe shikulu, PF eyi fwaya democracy mwa?

  43. #28, and who cares if you know me or not? Don’t you know that Zambian democracy allows freedom of expression? Enjoy yours and I will enjoy mine, we will not have it so good in the unlikely event of your Mr Sata coming to power.

  44. #42, chairman, why do you fail to acknowledge what your god Sata said? That is not good enough for a self proclaimed BA, i hope you confessed the moment you hit the send button.

  45. # 45,46 and 50 , blog properly this report,” The church says it will campaign against political leaders advocating gay rights” … church to campaign or pray ? why should I be ashamed to be a christian anyway, just for your guidance trace the christian roots of all the presidential aspirants.

  46. #51, in 42 you said the gay support claims are ‘unfounded’ and yet Sata is on record saying ‘Zambia has laws which support homosexuality, all that is needed is implementing them’….why do you choose to fudge what you boss said?

  47. The bible clears indicates that “towards the end of the world, false preachers shall be plentiful.” fake preachers……….adulterers and conmen who use the name of the Lord in vain.

  48. Isn’t it sooooo wonderful that politicians who are advocates for homosexuality will never be elected? I’m not for the MMD but if the MMD is against homosexuality I’m for them all the way. I might go screaming and kicking but I’m on board with them. And hopefully, that will discourage other politicians from going down that path in future. Farewell Mr. M. Sata. LT, you’ll be next.

  49. It is ridiculous that in an election year all that people are speaking about is the issue of gays. A unsolvable problem! What about eradication of poverty and jobs. Are politicians not primarily there to enable people to live a better life or are they our spiritual guides as is the case now in Zambia. People must not complain down the road when there are no medicines in the hospitals or they can not afford educating their children, because they were too busy witch-hunting innocent gay people. There is an opportunity now to restore social life politically. Put your priorities in order. Let politicians do what they are supposed to do. Deliver services not being spiritual guides, a task they can not do if you examine their lives. They must stop spreading hatred using Gods name.

  50. Its utter childish, because we know that they are big fish “gay and lesbian politicians in both UPND and MMD; so what are people talking about. Please keep quiet before the names start to fly around…..Even those MMD paid up Bishops must be careful because of the money they have are dirty ….and may actually becoming from the same source!!

  51. Ba Bishop where does our beloved RB congregate and our beloved HH congregate at least we know our beloved SATA is a catholic and our beloved LT Shikapwasha is tounge speaking
