RTSA introduces new driver’s licence

Share

The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has introduced new drivers’ licenses which have additional security features.

RTSA Director Fredrick Mwalusaka said these security features can only be seen under ultraviolent light.

Mr. Mwalusaka told ZANIS in Lusaka today that the new drivers’ licence can be widely accepted as an identity because of the holders’ details and security features.

He has since assured the general public that the new drivers’ licences will not be easy to forge.

He further said RTSA is now able to print bout 5,000 drivers’ licenses in a day and refuted claims by some sections of the media that the agency has failed to manage the issuance of the new drivers’ license.

Mr. Mwalusaka noted that the interruption in the issuance of new licences was caused by a disruption that occurred when upgrading the Zambia Transport Information System (ZAMTIS).

He said this only affected the first time applicants, adding that this has since been resolved.

He disclosed that the agency has so far printed 28,000 new drivers’ licenses which will be ready for dispatch by Thursday next week to the respective stations.

Mr. Mwalusaka said people that had applied for the new cards can begin to collect them next week Friday.

He has also pointed out that the Road Transport and Safety Agency has since procured an industrial printer in order to improve efficiency.

This comes under the program which was launched on 19th November last year by Deputy Minister of Communication and Transport Mubika Mubika which was meant to improve security on features on the drivers’ licence.

In 2001 government, through the Ministry of Communication and Transport, signed a contract with a South African company, First Technologies Limited, to improve the quality and efficiency of printing drivers’ license cards.

And commenting on the Carbon Tax levies, Mr. Mwalusaka said RTSA is still collecting carbon tax on behalf of the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA).

He however expressed disappointed on the failure by some motorists to pay the tax.

RTSA has entered into an agreement with the Zambia Transport and Information Services to improve the tax collection system which will help them collect road tax and carbon tax.

  1. This MMD govt., if full of comedy. They keep changing licenses in the name of improving features and making it difficult to forge or so we are told. But it just makes it impssible for them to print it and easy for the katondo street boys to forge.

  2. RTSA how many times are we going to change our driving licenses? It has become a money making venture whenever you are broke. I just renewed my driving licence. Could you enlighten me whether I have to renew it or not? It took me more than three months to renew my licence last year. May we be serious.

  3. HOW CAN THEY CLAIM THAT THEY CAN PRINT 5000 DRIVING LICENSES IN A DAY WHEN I AM STILL WAITING MY NEW LICENCE SINCE JANUARY 2011.RTSA STOP BOASTING AND START CLEARING LICENCE WHICH ARE STILL PENDING FOR MONTHS.I PASSED MY TEST IN JANUARY AND THEY HAVE NOT YET ISSUED ME MY NEW LICENCE.I HAVE CHECKING ON MY LICENCE FOR MORE THAN 8 TIMES AND THEY KEEP GIVING ME LAME EXCUSES. COME ON RTSA PUT YOUR MONEY BEFORE YOUR MOUTH ANS STOP MISLEADING THE PUBLIC.

  4. Lies lies lies lies lies lies and more boring lies. There are NO licences being issued, people have passed and have been waiting for too long without ever recieving them.

  5. It was the same thing with my passport. I had only used once and it was valid until 2019. I had to get a new one which was a hassle with RB’s relatives who are dotted over government and private companies. I had problems in renewing the passport even if I had an offical letter showing that I was supposed to travel on official duty abroad. This new passport which is similar to Nigerian passport is a betrayal to Zambians when we travel abroad. I was detained at Heathrow airport after some foolish fellow mistook me for a Nigerian based on the passport colour.

  6. This is bullshit!!! Anyway, as a money make,r I can still afford one. I pit the majority poor souls.

  7. What security features are they talking about. How many cases of fake driving licences have they discovered to warrant this change? RTSA is very inefficient. I bet they are just trying to earn money to be used by MMD in this year’s elections. Nonsense! Ba mataba! Ba kaboke!

  8. Just when i was hoping to change my 2004? drivers licence when i get to Zed they have changed again. So the version I have will have morphed 2 to 3 times i suppose, maybe i should wait another 5 years when they change again.

  9. In 2001 government, through the Ministry of Communication and Transport, signed a contract with a South African company, First Technologies Limited, to improve the quality and efficiency of printing drivers’ license cards.

-If another country designing your driver’s licenses, where is the security?

  10. On “The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has introduced new drivers’ licenses which have additional security features… Director Fredrick Mwalusaka said these security features can only be seen under ultraviolent light” which new licence is this that RTSA is introducing again?

In about 1998, there was a Driver’s Licence that was introduced and a few years back there is one that was introduced which I have. Now, do I have to get another one again or what I have is the talked about new one?

Be blest all and vote for the UPND Team under HH’s presidency to form GRZ Administration this 2011.

  15. RTSA, you *****s can make someones ar.se arche for sure! How many times are you going to change driving licenses? Leave the people to change as and when the current one expires, no forced change like for PASSPORTS or we will crucify Mwalusaka. All you registering departments of government are starting to sound like the MAFIA who never cease EXTORTING money out of their victim however compliant he is! YOU Black mambas!

  16. These *****s, from one scandal to another !! Stealing money from citizens without any sense of shame ! This is shocking. These *****s have no hearts for the Zambians, who are already overtaxed. Improving security features for what, and kind of security features are those? We have had “security features improved” for NRCs, passports, and now drivers’ licences. It’s too much. The money you have stolen from selling our copper mines, and Zamtel isn’t enough? Where are we headed to, really?

  17. “RTSA Director Fredrick Mwalusaka said these security features can only be seen under ultraviolent light.” Kwena MMD. Is William Banda part of this project considering that you will be using ULTRAVIOLENT light and not ULTRA VIOLET light security features!?! LOL!!!! Kwena ze hour violence yafika na ku ma licence yonse. Chwe chwe chwe!!!

  18. How many times are Zambians going to lose money on baseless grounds. New passports, New Driver’s licence, soon New NRC, before we know it New Birth Certificate. I am tired of this tactic of raising money from my over taxed income base. Time to leave this nation if govt fails to change hands as long as one has the correct papers

  19. Its time for making free money again after the passport saga. Fund-raising for the campaigns this year.

  20. What is new about this license when the same old corrupt system of obtaining it remains! It’s the system, stupid!

  21. i have my driver’s licence and i already paid to get it no matter how old…. RTSA simply print my copy and call me to collect. applying for new this and new that is becoming a job on its own. we have other things that we do and get paid for doing them… does anyone know whether or not there has been another ultimatum when to get the new licences?

  22. # Ba Malikopo you ve been waiting since. I have been waiting for a duplicate since September 2010. Agony is it expires December 2011 so I have to go through the hastle of being told to stand in the sun or rain.

  23. RTSA Director Fredrick Mwalusaka said these security features can only be seen under ultraviolent light.

LT please what kind of editors do you have? It is ultraviolet not ultraviolent #29 – good observance

  24. It is quicker to get a passport than a driving licence. I have been waiting for six months now. Gross inefficiency, nothing to do with security features.

  25. Rubbish!!! How many times are you going to change these licences. This is a fundraising venture for the MMD being an election year. We all know about it. You quacks. You devils. God will sort you out individually one day. You really disgust me. Shame on you and cursed be your dirty hands for grinding the already poor and struggling Zambian people.

  26. Only in africa they have legalised corruption so to speak,,its impossible to walk in to get one.
its o lomg queue. he is not in office etc etc

  27. 4 hw long shall we b changing drivers licenses & passports in de name of security features? If at all there pipo forging, its u in same offices. Plz stop dis circus, otherwise its a clear sign of inefficiency, and incompetence++++++++++.

  28. Don’t Worry, be happy, becoz the NEXT UPGRADED VERSION, will feature an out of this world card, it will have the consistency of tissue paper, such that you could use it, when you run out of the real thing, ITS SUPREME QUALITY lies in the fact that you can still keep it as it is reusable both as a drivers license & as emergency “shinda paper”, as you can now appreciate, this govt & its depts are obviously very interested in our welfare especially when we are on the road & require emergency toilet!!

  29. Mwalusaka, stop taking the already over burdened zambians for kids. just tell us, you want to raise cash for your irrelevant agency which only serves to increase corruption for traffic officers.

  30. This better be true because i filed for my renewal in july last year and up to now my license isnt out. Can’t wait to have it……

  31. QUOTE. And commenting on the Carbon Tax levies, Mr. Mwalusaka said RTSA is still collecting carbon tax on behalf of the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA).

RTSA xplain to motorist the importance of the tax and how that levy is used then they will stat payn if not tatwakulalipila look at our environment on pollution wat do our ministers do in offices honestly???

  32. If we can have machines in every district for printing drivers licenses it will help to stop long waiting and forging. Same apply to the passports.

  33. I have great idea to reduce road accident if I have money to buy material such as two vehicles and other materials.I’m not good in english but try to understand and do something I am here for you.Chingola man.cell phone 0964081913.
