THE Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has appointed Priscilla Isaac as director of elections with effect from April 1, 2011.
ECZ public relations manager Cris Akufuna announced the appointment of Mrs Isaac, who was deputy director of elections and voter education, in a statement released in Lusaka on April 4.
MrAkufuna said Mrs Isaac joined the commission in 2000 as public relations officer, and rose to the position of deputy director of elections in 2002.
He said Mrs Isaac has vast experience in election management, having participated in the 2001 and 2006 tripartite elections as well as the 2008 presidential elections.
Mr Akufuna said Mrs Isaac has a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication and another one in law.
Mrs Isaac has observed many elections in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region and beyond.
Mr Akufuna said the commission would like to congratulate Mrs Isaac on her appointment and wish her success in her new position.
Meanwhile, the commission has said it will not extend the mobile voter registration.
MrAkufuna said in an interview in Lusaka on April 4 the calls to extend the exercise are unjustified.
Mr Akufuna said currently, the commission is collecting statistics for the just-ended mobile registration exercise.
He said such programmes require enough money and manpower.
And Mr Akufuna said the commission is busy preparing for the tripartite elections, and the calls by some members of the public cannot be attended to now because there is little time left.
He said people should learn to be considerate, especially that the programme has been extended twice, and people were given enough time to register.
He said Zambians should learn to appreciate instead of politicising everything.
Mr Akufuna said if there will be need to extend the programme, the commission will announce, but at the moment it is busy collecting data on the just-ended mobile registration exercise.

where is Dn Kalale?
In all the cited elections in which she took part in, there was massive rigging. There is no benefit to the nation in appointing a dirty person to such a position. She does not bring confidence into the minds of voters.
Birds of the same feather flock together.
Even if they appoint Vernon Mwanga, change is enevitable…Donchi kubeba
I need to ask just one question. Why do people go on about rigging in Zambia? It’s not rigging when the opposition win but loud cries deafen our ears abouy rigging when the opposition fail to work hard enough. Is that what democracy is? Each party has representatives invited at every stage of election process. Why dont these representatives dispute the announced results if they are not correct? It’s ok to complain when something is wrong, but to do so without any cause is detremental to one’s development. If people work hard, sell their alternative policies, convince the electrolate that their program for development is the best, they will win the elections. It happened in 1991. But all I hear is people insulting each other, denying what they said, twisting and turning and blaming…
…. others for the colapse of this and that. These are not what win elections. Threats of violence just show the hooliganism that might lead the nation into chaos given the power. Let each party convince us they will work hard for the country by working hard before the elections. People should not expect power if they give baseless promises of sudden wealth in 90 days, for eample. Sell realistic ideas to people and stick to what is right regardless of the audience. People will respect you for that and feel safe to hand you the reigns of power. Dont be lazy and encourage laziness making it your right to rule. Tell people we need to work hard as a nation to improve our lot. Developed countries have not stoped working hard upto now and dont promise wealth to people without hard work.
Same old charecters. Dont we have other people in place the whole of Zambia. By the Gbagbo is abou to be ousted it is just a matter of hour.
Appointed on 01 April. Hope this is not April fools joke.
Meanwhile, the commission has said it will not extend the mobile voter registration.
He said such programmes require enough money and manpower.
IWE AKUFUNA, ITS NOT YOUR MONEY BUT TAX PAYERS MONEY..WHY ARE YOU SO EXCITED ABOUT NOT EXTENDING VOTERS REGISTRATION. THIS PROCESS MUST BE CONTNUOUS UNTIL PROBABLY TWO MONTHS BEFORE ELECTIONS (these are ELECTIONS AND NOT ERECTIONS)
Mrs Isaac has vast experience in election MISMANAGEMENT, having participated in the 2001 and 2006 tripartite elections as well as the 2008 presidential elections.
we all remember what happened during these elections.
I think that the Electoral Commission of Zambia needs credible people to run it. Having somebody who was at it when petitions arose, ghost voters existed at the time, excess ballot papers were discovered, electoral misconduct was condoned should not have been allowed to be at the helm of it.
Why not just advertise for the post and credible people apply for it!
At least, she is much better than Dan Kalale, though change is still coming, rigging will not be allowed, PVT shall apply.

These eyewear not simply appear interesting and contemporary but have got a density towards the vinyl that just claims it is excellent… the upgraded lenses needless to say are straightforward on the little brown eyes and comfy to seem by way of and they are a godsend if the sun is out and around.
