Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) president Edith Nawakwi has echoed calls for the early dissolution of Parliament.
Ms. Nawakwi says it is unacceptable that the process on which colossal amounts of money were spent has failed to yield desired results.
The FDD leader says the failure of the Constitution amendment Bill to pass through the second reading stage is unfortunate adding that President Rupiah Banda should consider dissolving parliament as soon as possible in readiness for general elections.
Ms. Nawakwi has also accused UPND Members of Parliament of being selfish stating that they benefited from the NCC allowances while pretending to represent the wishes of Zambians which could not be retained in the NCC report.
And Ms Nawakwi says the Rupiah Banda led government has duped Zambians of a document that will stand a test of time as they have shown lack of interest in the country’s future.
She says the failure by the MMD government to enact a new Constitution of Zambia will put the country at the cross roads of becoming a failed state.

Spot On. Technically, parliament is supposed to dissolve period. Where government fails to pass constitutional or budget bills, they have effectively failed a vote of NO confidence.

On a serious note, what are all these empty noises that we are hearing about dissolving Parliament? Parliament WILL BE DISSOLVED this year, in fact within six months. Preparations are already underway for General Elections. You are pushing an open door bamayo ba Nawakwi na batata ba Sata, please find something useful to do.
Even the Constitution recognises this, quote “…if the office of President shall become vacant ….and there is less than one year before the next scheduled elections, no elections shall be held..the Vice President shall act as President until elections are held…”.

Actually there is a Constitution in force currently, the country is not in a lacuna, as lawyers would say.
It is the existing Constitution which is guiding the country’s preparations for the General Elections. Just say that you are hearing what you want to hear, as usual, not what the law says.
Why not dissolve FDD so that a United Opposition is formed. If parliament is dissolved then so what if the opposition is clad in division. This thing of echoing what technocrats like Wila Mungomba have said is shallow thinking, clean your house first.

There is no need of finger pointing. UPND MPs are not to blame.Ask George Kunda why he misled Levy and RB found this NCC in motion. Kunda should explain as head of Govt business in the house why he did not canvas before taking the bill to parliament. I agree with Ms Nawakwi that RB should dissolve parliament as early as possible. RB should heed the waerning from Panji Kaunda that those surrounding him are misleading him for the sake of keeping their jobs. I am sure there is nothing personal between RB and Panji. Wait a minute Mama Edith Nawakwi. MMD has shown the way forward in demonstrating the tenents of democratic processes. Let’s have more time to allow other political parties to run Conventions that will democratically elect fresh blood into the leadership of their respective parties. Only then can the level ground be prepared to embrace everyone at grass-root levels. Dictators may not fare well, come the elections.
Now we are hearing Mr Willa Mungomba’s reported words in The Post. Mungomba was either misquoted or wrong. A government resigns if a Constitution bill fails to pass if their is no constitution to replace. The NCC was chaired by FDD’s Chifumu Banda so why is Nawakwi quacking? The Draft constitution is not a government bill but the NCC’s.

I am disappointed with Edith NAWAKWI because she should have taken this opportunity to apologise to the nation about her being involved in a Constitution passing process in 1996 that barred KK from standing as presidential candidate. Nawakwi must realise that her contribution to giving us a bad 1996 Amended Constitution that removed the 50%+1 votes for a President-elect was a very bad move and could have apologised to Zambians now about participating in that 1996 Constitution process.

Nawakwi and ULP unelected leader since 2006 Sakwiba Sikota are still bitter about UPND of HH but they are wasting their time because president HH has already made his money and UPND will continue to beat them in elections.
Nawakwi should concentrate on asking his FDD vice-president Chifumu Banda WHY her vice-president failed to give Zambians a useful Constitution Draft under NCC which the UPND could have voted for to pass in Parliament.

Nawakwi, I thought you are an upright person. we should not take whatever happens for political ridence Zambians. Let us think objectively and not as a mob which just reads political moods. Willie Mung’omba already said we should thank those who blocked a constitution which does not reflect the wishes of the people. Blaming upnd members would not help as they were not the only ones who attended the NCC as MPS, as you may know that they were out numbered by MMD and the only way they managed to block the wishes of the MMD was to block that bill. We should learn to be neutral and not politicise everything for just our own benefit.
These washed out politicians! They have failed to come up with a modus-operandi for the development of our country, and now, they are just pointing fingers at one another. The Zambian people may have been idle at one point, but things are slowly changing. They can’t fool us anymore, its a matter of time and they will realise that. Nawakwi’s sentiments , do not only bear a lack of genuineness, but also reflect on the standards and the lack of good faith in the type of leadership Zambia has had for the longest time now. They are all the same, there is not even one among all the former MMDs that I can give the benefit of a doubt, all of them are simply self-seeking individuals, with zero understanding of the meaning of public service and leadership.
