Government has commended Kansashi Mining PLC for its contribution to the development of the country.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Ambassador Lucy Mungoma says apart from the taxes to government, Kansanshi Mine has, through its elaborate and comprehensive social responsibility programmes helped to uplift the living standards of the people in Solwezi and North Western Province as a whole.
ZANIS reports that speaking when the Zambian Envoys abroad toured the mine in Solwezi yesterday, Amb.Mungoma said government is proud of the many contributions the company was making towards changing the face of the province.

She noted that through the massive contributions in the areas of health, Education, road infrastructure, employment creation, among others, Kansanshi was helping the local people appreciate the value of the investment in the area.
Ambassador Mungoma said the various programmes the company was conducting in the province and Solwezi in particular are important in both its survival and that of the local people.
She appealed to other investors to seriously consider putting in place programmes that directly benefit communities in which they operate.
She said this was the only way people can appreciate such investments.
“We are impressed with the level of investment here and the initiative of ensuring that the local community benefits directly from this investment.
“It is our wish as government to see as many of our investors as possible create opportunities for our people because this is the only way such investment can be appreciated,” she said.
She explained that the tour of the mine and other areas was meant to expose Zambian envoys abroad to key sectors of the economy.
Tomorrow the delegation is expected to visit the Kasumbalesa Boarder Post and later proceed to visit the Nansanga farm block in Mkushi Central province.
And Dean of the Zambian envoys abroad, Dr. Inonge Mbikusita-Lewanika expressed happiness at the level of commitment Kansanshi Mining Plc has exhibited towards the development of Solwezi and North Western Province.
Dr. Mbikusita-Lewanika, who is also Zambia’s Envoy to Belgium said the Zambian envoys abroad will do their best to further market the country as an investment destination.
She also said the tour of the mining operations at the mine would enable the envoys confidently articulate issues surrounding the operations of the mine and the mining industry as a whole.
She was particularly impressed that apart from making profits, the company was seriously investing in Education which she said was key to the growth of the economy.
Earlier, Kansanshi Mining Plc Head of Public Relations, Godfrey Msiska told the delegation that his company was continuing to enjoy cordial working relations with government and the surrounding community.
Mr. Msiska also assured the diplomats that Kansanshi will continue designing programmes that will directly benefit the local community.
He said currently the company has set aside over K30 billion to be spent in areas of education, health among others.
Mr. Msiska also said that the company would soon commence works to revamp Solwezi Hospital and turn it into a modern health facility.
He further said that the company intends to increase its copper production levels from about 245,000 tonnes to 400,000 by the year 2014, making it the third largest copper producer in the world.

MMD should go’ – Fr Bwalya
Get Involved Zambia (GIZ) says calling for the resignation of vice president George Kunda is not necessary because it is the entire MMD party that’s needs to be gotten rid of.
GIZ leader Father Frank Bwalya says the people of Zambia should not only demand the resignation of Mr. Kunda but the entire government because it has failed to deliver good leadership to the Zambian people.
Yesterday during a media briefing the Oasis Forum demanded for the resignation of vice president George Kunda for what they said was misleading the nation on the constitution making process.
Father Bwalya has noted that the manipulation of the constitution making process was not done by Mr Kunda in his capacity as the justice minister but that the entire MMD government had a role to play in the failure of the constitution making process.
He has observed that it was not going to be of any use to the Zambian people even if the constitution bill was to go through because it lacked all the progressive clauses that the people of Zambia had demanded for.
Meanwhile, Get Involved Zambia (GIZ) says it has information that a particular political party has been going round getting the details of the registered voters.
GIZ leader Father Frank Bwalya has told QFM news that the named political party has also been telling women to form clubs and submit the details on there NRCS and Voter’s cards as one of the requirements for them to access loans.
Father Bwalya says Ndola’s Chipulukusu Township is one of the areas that has fallen prey to this criminal activity.
He says it is evident that the political party which he declined to name is trying to come up with a system of rigging the forthcoming elections.
Father Bwalya adds that his organization will soon start conducting public hearing on the matter in the affected areas before coming up with corrective measures saying his organization has been receiving complaints from the public on the same
My country.

My vote.
My leader is his Excellence the president of Zambia Rupiah Bwezani Banda. My vote will not be misplaced. My resolve is clear. I will not be swayed by what blind & Worthless charlatans of bishops or what buffoons like Mpombo and John Phiri bark. They will bark, bark and growl but the truth is that this year they will be nowhere near power.

Does n’t that check (cheque) send you a message Zambian people? Seems like mines sold by FTJ and HH are still profitable and self sustaining. Probably windfall taxes`wouldn’t such a bad idea. If they go, we continue were they ended. If they stay we share the profits, after all it our copper.
Ifwe nipali HH bosses and we say VIVA to the young man becoz we youths we fill reprsented.HH all the way you ar holding my vote.i guess HH was not in that cabinate of that kafupi chiluba to talk about the salling of the mines but chilufya sata was part of the cabinate and next to kafupi chiluba,in conclution we say HH go and we behind you.
lol – First glance at the picture with the Lusaka Times watermark in the middle it looked like this was a $3m cheque to LT. You should have had this one to go with your April fools article….!
Zambian do not be cheated. This so called ka Father Bwalya is another Bemba that are trying get power. These tu ma NGOs are created as PF (Bemba) party indexes. When he speaks, he speaks for Bembas. Rubbish. Easternes, Northwestern, Western, Southern and Central let us all unite against these Bemba thieves
Junta, thumps up! Ulinshimbi……….these wolves will never be allowed mu govt!
.
Its only misguided and evil souls that can wish any development not to supersede in a nation.
There are those in opposition parties, which will wish, hope and pray for development to freeze or not work in all sectors, so that they can have a point to prove.
Unless, we collectively start working hard and have constructive criticism and not words derived from hate and loathing – Zambia will keep going in circles. Father Bwalya is too rhetoric to the extent of being a batty & loony.

#8, the ka site you refered to is very mediocre and does not warrant to be a reference point. To start with, the grammer is all wrong! The analysis of the financials is no were near being called shallow. Why not get an expert to do the analysis instead of the mess that was done? I personally can never depend on something that substandard!
So, I wish to request that this sight be edited to present a more professional picture than the Kabova style it is presenting!
# 15 UPND wil vote to injure PF . You do not want Bemba’s but why use their languange- ULINSHIMBI. You cant put that in your language? # 12 Junta. You are advocating for civil war. Zambia is for all tribes. If Fr Bwalya speaks,he is doing it as a Zambian not as a Bemba. There are alot of NGO’s led by people from other regions. Thats why you are called tribalist.
# 11 Champ, you are right. I looked at the check and I was like wow! LT finally gets recognition and a hefty reward. Nice one Lusaka Times. You really made me laugh. It’s always your grammar I question, but today I am also questioning you graphics
Mmmm LT trying to put your name on the cheque :-)
Spot on Kalos2121 at 9. Therein (the cheque) lies the true extent of how much money the mines are making. In the meantime, we are busy sleeping while the mining companies are syphoning the loot to their respective countries. It is such a shame; what we need is a people driven govt; one that will listen and make rational decisions for the common good of the masses.
Are these guys surely seriuos. This rediculous pomposity of MMD trying to decieve Zambia poor people with outdated flashbacks of meager amounts of money for a mine is annoying. I never comment in this way but am disgusted.
Here just queensland rail moves just under 600,000 Tons of Coal a day out of 365 days so at a cheap $160 per tonne your looking at $960,000,000 worth of coal moved everyday. Not comparing the two countries, we have still been a mining giant and to advertise a 3M check is an insult if you know the figures.
I hve enough. Good night
what crap is this?? is this a donation of peanuts to really ignorant people??
We need a change of govt!!!!!
These are eggs…Chiluba and his MMD sold the chicken moons ago…
Crumbs & $3m and the govt boasts…
the article proves that regime is bought and paid for by the mines… and LT licks the MMDs behind
crooks & thieves must be kicked out !!!
Zed needs change !!!
We sold the goose that laid golden eggs,so lets shut up and take the crap we getting.unless we serious bout doing something about it.
As usual, ukubwata bwata when they don’t even know the circumstances or background of that cheque.
I pity mother Zambia, who bequeathed this clique of citizens to such a lovely country?
