PRESIDENT Banda has nominated six members into the MMD national executive committee (NEC), including Vice-President George Kunda and Parliamentary chief whip Vernon Mwaanga.

The six were nominated by President Banda and approved by the new NEC in their first meeting held after the closure of the national convention on April 7.

Mr Kunda, who was earlier vying for the party vice-president, a position which has been abolished, is one of the two trustees nominated by the President, in accordance with the amended MMD constitution.

The new MMD constitution gives the President power to nominate two trustees and 10 other members, bringing the total number of nominees into the party’s supreme decision-making body to 12.

Speaking to journalists after the NEC meeting, Mr Banda said he had decided to nominate Mr Kunda and former MMD national secretary MrMwaanga as trustees.

Others nominated as members of the NEC are Kenneth Chipungu, Suresh Desai, Maggie Musonda and Annie Chungu.

President Banda said the other members will be nominated at a later stage.

Meanwhile, MONICA KAYOMBO reports that the MMD says the scrapping of the party vice-presidency would not affect the performance of the party.

Speaking in an interview yesterday, MMD chief whip Mr Mwaanga said the position of vice- president in the MMD has remained frozen since 2005.

“MMD members felt that the party hierarchy was top heavy but that the decision by the party to finally abolish the position will not in any way affect the performance of the party,” he said.

Mr Mwaanga said the MMD has always been effective, even during the time the vice-presidency was frozen and he expects that the ruling party will remain formidable with the election of a new executive.

He also commended delegates to the MMD national convention for exhibiting the highest level of discipline before and during the election of NEC members.

Mr Mwaanga said the convention is a sign that the MMD is still united and ready to face challenges that would come its way.

Mr Mwaanga said, as an individual, he would continue putting in his best to ensure that the party continues benefiting from his expertise.

  6. VJ has to be nominated for vote rigging purposes.Red Lips because he is lying to Rupiah that PVT is illegal he has to be got as well. These MMD chaps were saying only members in good standing will file in nominations and attend the so called convention and they even published a list of those in bad standing.Patrick Musonda was not on that list but they disqualified him that he was not in good standing. What sense is in that?
VOTE SATA AND PF COME 2011

  7. Chief Mwanachingwala and Daniel Munkombwe in the background, all boot lickers. Who cracked the joke that almost cracked the rigger’s ribs?

  8. Is it true that PF have formed PACK with The POST and CLIVE CHIRWA and the post have taken the position of VICE PRESIDENT, CLIVE CHIRWA political engineer, KABIMBA spokesman and GIVEN have been retired for failing PF in western province.

  9. HEY GUYS THESE OLD BALLIES WANT EVERYTHING TO THEMSELVES EVEN OUR YOUNG LADIES LIKE T. 10. ***** what benefit? the benefit of rigging! why do the people of Zambia let corrupt leaders take the office. I think its high time that we took the route of the arab world.

  11. Disgraced Kunda and VJ. The mere mention of these two names makes me want to vomit. Does VJ have any cows at home? It’s indeed an extraordinary ending for VJ, having led the so called extraordinary life, the title of his book. Too bad for him.

  12. elo yalila nomba.Wapya baisa Kukaba ukushana Kwasakwasa yakwa Vernon noku Dribler kwa kwa Chiluba Nokubwata bwata kwa ka Kunda. REST IN PEACES :((

  13. Remember VJ was at one time Director of Intelligence in KK’s government. So he has effectively made use of all the skills, knowledge, and experience he acquired, to rig elections, not only in Zambia, but in Uganda, Zimbabwe and Malawi as well.

  14. Big kudos to the nominated patriots and indeed MMD for a successful convention! You made the country pround. Immediately get fired up for runaway victory. MMD MMD wins, Zambians and their democracy win.

  15. GRZ SHOULD ADAPT AND BUY TASERS NOW

It is important for the law enforcers “to take action that will unequivocally reinforce the upholding of fundamental rights and national security. Government should immediately invest in electrical security apparatus available for sale to Governments in the USA and China. Going forward Police must resort to use of electric weapons such as “TASERS” to control unruly anarchists. All in all ?police should have greater discretion when using tasers in volatile situations but take charge.Taser anarchists down, they will get paralysed on the ground then round them for Chimbokaila.

  16. This picture irritates me: why is VJ laughing with such a wide mouth? His laugh looks fake and more like a bootlicker’s laugh. I’m sure the joke wasn’t that funny…! Has anybody ever watched the movie called Good Fellas?? You remember the scene in the restaurant where Joe Pesci, Robert de Niro, Ray Liotta and few others are laughing at Joe Pesci’s dry gangster jokes and Ray Liotta seems to be laughing too much and louder that everybody else? – The Joe Pesci pulls a practical joke on him asking him why he is luaghing like that at his jokes?? That Ray Liotta laugh is a key bootlicker’s laugh aimed at being noticed and wanting to be seen as most enjoying. That is VJ’s laugh in this picture. Irritating…!

  17. Who needs to rig Mr Sata when he has already rigged himself with gayism and lesbianism which he recently confirmed by calling for the abolishing of the Christaian nation declaration?

  18. Kunda is now completely in the hands of RB! Soon he will even lose his constituency! The Kafupi political engineer has really earned his keep…. VJ, you sure are able to justify anything. Is there someone who remember what brought about the freezing of the Party VP post?

  19. I did not know that all the PF members combined including their leader who was with VJ from the UNIP days are no match for VJ’s brain, even in its old age. He just makes them shiver like dry leaves. Makes one wonder, how come that since independence Mr Sata has failed to learn and thwart VJ’s alleged tricks?
Ba PF nga baumfwa ishina lya kwa VJ, balaisundawila mumatoloshi, kanshi ninshi bane?

  20. Viva VJ. Zonda uzalema. this man is just irriplaceable. whether you like it or not, he is a genius. its nice the MMD still respects him cos he is a founder
