UTH ICU theatre rehab completed

Equipment in one of the theatres at University Teaching Hospital

The rehabilitation of the main theatre and Intensive Care Unit-ICU at the University Teaching Hospital-UTH has been completed.

UTH Managing Director Lackson Kasonka says government rehabilitated the main theatre and ICU at a cost of four billion kwacha.

Dr. Kasonka told ZNBC News in an interview that the main theatre has been rehabilitated at three point nine billion kwacha.

The four hundred and twenty-one million kwacha has been spent on the ICU.

He explained that the ICU and main theatre block have been refurbished to acceptable international standards.

Dr. Kasonka further explained that state of art equipment has been installed in the main theatre and ICU.

He is optimistic that the completion of the rehabilitation of the ICU and main theatre will boost morale among medical personnel.

  1. Then all politicians especially mmd stop wasting national resources in south african hospitals. This rehabilitation of hospitals shoud be country wide not only uth. It has taken 47 years after independence just to do what has been done.Its really shameful for zambians to be going to neighbouring countries just to seek medical treatment. You should having been doing this all the time, dont waist for elections. Otherwise well done though, too late.

  2. How many beds does that ICU have ? 5 or 6? For a population of 2.5 or 3 million people in lusaka? And what are ‘acceptable international standards’ , what equipement and drugs are there?. Its all BULLSHIT.

  3. Wouldn’t be surprised if most wasn’t spent on repairing the leaky roof. Hope the lighting has been improved.

    we have to reiterate, having the latest equipment without simple medicines is not progress.
    The real test of health development, is when people stop going abroad for simple ailments.
