Unknown people in Mazabuka have stolen more than 200 litres of diesel from Mobile Hospitals amid tight security provided by state police.
This comes barely 2 days after the Southern province mobile hospitals were launched by President Rupiah Banda.
Meanwhile police on Friday rounded up and arrested twelve illegal fuel dealers for questioning over the missing of the fuel from the widely critised mobile hospitals.
Police have since released eight while four are still in police custody.
Both Zambia police and chief security officer at Mazabuka general hospital Cosmas Himoonga have confirmed the incident.
The suspected thieves are alleged to have stolen the fuel on Thursday in the night; the drivers of the trucks only discovered that diesel had been drained after they were preparing to leave for Livingstone to deliver the trucks.
Police said it was at that time the police rounded illegal fuel dealers who do their business near the hospital.
The trucks were later refueled at a local filling station.
When contacted, Mazabuka district Hospital administrator Janet Njovu could not give a comment saying she had no details about the theft.
But Hospital chief security officer Cosmas Himoonga said he was shocked to learn that fuel had been stolen amid tight security.
He said the Hospital security officers do not work at night because the role had been taken over by a private security company.
Just wait! This is just the beginning.
More headaches without panadol are coming!!!! If Landcruisers are in short supply and have disfficult doing outreach, how will your Mobile Hospital do that? 3. In these far distant places, there are rural health centers some of which are manned by no single health worker but by an untrained CDE, (who is even delivering mothers) why cant you spend this money to build accomodation for health workers and improve infrastructure to support health? 4. If in theory, this hospital will have say 2 doctors, 4 nurses, 1 lab person, 1 pharmacist, 1 records clerk, 2 cleaners, 2 chefs, 1 driver plus assistant: These are modest estimates but you have at least 15 people on board. If they are on the move for 30 days: Daily Subsistence Allowance for a GRZ…
These are modest estimates but you have at least 15 people on board. If they are on the move for 30 days: Daily Subsistence Allowance for a GRZ employee @ K300,000/night x 15 x 30 = K135,000,000m (ONE HUNDRED AND THIRSTY FIVE MILLION KWACHA) on subsistence allowances only. This does not include salaries and other allowances such as over time/on call, fuel costs, food costs, medical/surgical supplies costs, motor vehicle spares costs etc. Now put your bottom down and find out from any district hospital in Zambia, how much GRZ grant they receive per month currently? It ranges from K10m to K50m if they are lucky, and check what their workload currently?? This mobile hospital thing is a hoax.
What tight security? If the security officer are hungry, there are the ones who sold the fuel. Address the poverty first and not be blinded by campaigns. And why are the Mobile Hospitals going to Livingstone. Are u telling us the same ones and being paraded every place?
Goodfellas! How did they pull that heist amid tight security? This whole mobile clinic thing is a scam, you actually need seven trucks to make one mobile nonsense………….People were driven by commissions to purchase those things than sense.
Hay with the current fuel prices you definately expect that to happen and thats how this mobile hospital thing will fail to materialise. Now honestly why people of sourthern start stealing fuel from mobile hospital tracks and how do they expect RB to deliver good health care to them if they continue stealing fuel? I hope their MP Garry Nkombo is not involved in this fuel stealing.
ba ngwele there is more to come. Nyamasoya and his lazo sons can’t eat alone
seven trucks+ 100policemen+ 100loaded guns 700gallons of diesel= 1 hospital
am enjoying the math…..
#1. Jinx popo, you are a serious analyst. #3 KKK. yes the same ones will be paraded in another town of southern province. They form a Set(Hospital) and each province has 1 Set. #7 sata cant win. Your mathematics makes Sata a winner
@ Chi # 7.
Then you call yourself Sata cant win? Whats wrong with you?
You want suspects? Look no further, search among the opponents, just peruse LT.
Stolen? Do we have Bembas in Mazabuka????
#1 #2 you are good man! you are so right about everything! and sometimes the Drivers will be driving while drunk as per practice among most rural Govt drivers!!!Â
The moble hospital thing will cost the government heavily.in urban areas like Lusaka, the capital city has terrible road infrastructure, what kind of roads do u expect to find in remote rural areas?almost impassable.these mobiles wont last long.simple economics, its more cost saving to invest in buildings than automobile hospitals
#11 Baliko!!!!!
# 11 – Mwadya mweka daddy: Iwe mwaiche lekefyo!
Its interesting that people can steal in Mazabuka. Ifwe kumwesu tutolafwe mukwai.
Next time steal the Tracks and scrap them you will make good cool bucks because these *****s do not want to listern to the peoples wishes.
so much on mobile clinics and probably a 20ltrs diesel gone yet no comment on the stripping of kafue textile by one patel. lets be more objective and see were the big loss is ZAMBIA
Nomba ifipatala filevaila kuStone when there are two hospitals there, Batoka and General. It would make sense if those things were going to Dundumwezi. How many of those things were bought if a set requires seven trucks? So, if there is one chipatala in Egicikeni, it would mean that there would be no chipatala between Nyimba and Mazi-a-tuba in Chipata north. Awe shuwa tulibepwa, balatubepa everyday.
I wonder why the money used to buy these expensive mobile hospitals was not just used to build hospitals and clinics in rural areas. The cost of running these hospitals will really drain the ministry of health. Any we have Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane.
I wonder why the money used to buy these expensive mobile hospitals was not just used to build hospitals and clinics in rural areas. The cost of running these hospitals will really drain the ministry of health. Anyway we have Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane. He will be sourcing money from China for the maintenance of these mobile hospitals and for upgrading of rural roads.
hey people, do not scape goat and try to insinuate that these things are happening because mobile hospitals have been controversial,,,,, zedians are big time thieves period. they will steal anything from anywhere, whether fixed or in mobile structures. authorities have even stopped putting up traffic lights at junctions because people repeatedly damage these just to get the switches. what about someone stealing centre line reflectors from roads just in case the material used could be valuable, looting from innocent hard working businessmen under the pretext that they witches or whatever. disgusting….. to say the least.
For those of you who have never worked in the Civil Service this is news. For me who has been a civil servant 20 years this is not surprising. It is an everyday occurrence from during KK’s time to now. Fuel, stationery, fertiliser, name it not to mention money are always stolen most of the time by the heads of departments or provinces. Nikudyelapo, they always say. So even Banda who started these hospitals knew they would work for one week..after that its game time for all thieves. So this indeed is not a story for me.
Its a shame that Ala Bee could accept what ever enticement the Chocholiz displayed to him to purchase those canters for mobile hospitals. The decision to purchase those canters would only be arrived at by someone whose upstairs is questionable. Not even a grade 7 drop out would make such a decision. This year this MMD has to leave government for other people to lead. They have managed to mismanage our cry the beloved country.
Complaign not my lads. This is not time to do so as time will surely come for worse situations. Watch the space. Mind you this happened amid tight security. The comedy in zed is simply hillarious, no dull moments, kekeke!!!!!!
All this is because of RB.Anyway it is a sad funny story.
Mwenkulumgwe twalemyeba nicho fye tamumfwa.
So sad but I believe the cops are involved in this theft. As much as I do not subscribe to mobile clinics/hospitals as they are a waste of resources it is very wrong to steal diesel from them. Actually in a short time they will be white elephants
Why is LT wasting our time writing about 200 litres of fuel stolen? Do you people realise we are blogging over a US$200 theft story? Ma rubbish! The mobile clinic is also ma rubbish as is Ala Bee! Please give us stories worth debating.
#28 Shi Maine you are right why waste time on a ZAR 1,800 worth of fuel, I can even send them 2000 Rands via Western Union just now so that they can replace the fuel,
This is a sweet development. I hope the mobile hospitals themselved get stolen soonest!
UMMM So Southern Province has theives this is scary,Oops what about the bandits stoned to death in Kanyama! So these guys are theives in hidding busy pointing fingers at other tribes diverting the attention from themselves. Now we know you theives and prostitutes you have been exposed sakal nyongos
